Midwest.

They have the highest ranked team in all of basketball along with Tennessee, a team who many thought would have been a number one seed. Tennessee is built for an final four run with their excellent guard play and their defensive minded frontline.
You also have number five seed Notre Dame and three seed Louisville who are considered underrated by many. Notre Dame is used to playing extremely tough teams coming out of the crowded with talent Big East. And Louisville has a EXTREMELY and talented bench, so deep I can see them from Arizona.
Butler(7) is tested with four senior starters and OU has notched such qualtiy wins as WV, the Zags, Baylor twice, and Arkansas. Even though Arkansas is sometimes inconsistent, when their good, THEY ARE GOOD. And pairing them up with Indiana makes the most intriguing 8-9 matchups in the tourney.
Pound for pound, and team for team, the East is superior the the Midwest.

The Midwest has:
1 Kansas
2 Georgetown
That could be a fantastic Elite 8 matchup. Two final 4-caliber teams.
Then you have Wisconsin (3), Vandy (4), and Clemson (5), who just went to the ACC finals. Vandy is a very good squad that upset former #1 Tennessee. Wisconsin just won the Big 10.
Then, there's USC (6), Kansas State (11), Gonzaga (7), and Davidson (10), 4 teams that have the potential to go deep into the tourney. I'm especially intrigued by the Kansas State-USC matchup. I also think Davidson should have been seeded as 8 or 9.
UNLV and Kent State are two underrated squads who have talent. UMBC is a small school with upset potential. I think Villanova is a sleeper. They could do some damage.
Plus, there's Siena, Cal State Fullerton, and Portland State, some good teams from small conferences. The Midwest has very good teams, from top to bottom, that all have the talent to make a final four run.

I don't know why your talking about your one, two matchup. Look at the east's:
North Carlolina: #1 RPI
Tennessee: #2 RPI
Yes that's correct, this region has the team's with the number one and number two rpi's. And when you compare the MW #1 and 2 to the each region, they are really the worst.
1)North Carlolina: #1 RPI
Tennessee: #2 RPI
2)Memphis: #3 RPI
Texas: #6 RPI
3)UCLA: #4 RPI
Duke:#7 RPI
4)Kansas:#5 RPI
Georgetown:#8 RPI
They also come with ND and UL, everyone's sleeper teams. Sure Was. St might be a little high, but there still battle tested from the P-10. Indiana and Arkansas both can do some damage at their best.
Top to bottom this is hands down the most intimidating region.
erwin: Back Again. said 03/17, 06:53 PM
RPI is not that big a stat when it comes to Selection Sunday. Neither is SOS.
The Midwest has some EXTREME, and I mean EXTREME, sleepers. Such as:
Davidson
Villanova
Vanderbilt
UNLV
and much more.
Tennessee is inconsistent and isn't built for a final four run. They don't play defense. They mostly rely on outside shooting. That could hurt them come tourney time.
UNC is my pick to win the title, so I will go with you there.
Oklahoma has 10 losses. I don't like that.
Butler is from an easy conference, so we'll see. I don't think they'll make it pas the Sweet 16.
Louisville and ND have been inconsistent this year. They'll follow up a blowout win with a loss to an unranked team.
If Arkansas is so good, why couldn't they beat UGA in the SEC Championship? They're better than Georgia, you say? Obviously not.
When you look at the regions in detail, the East isn't all that great. The Midwest region is superior to the East region, and I think we might have a champinship winner coming out of there,

No doubt it's the East...with the South region coming in second
West is the weakest

Report Offensive CommentEast is much tougher and erwin would have been much better served making this a better TD by picking the south.

Report Offensive CommentEAST is the BEAST, fo sho'! Carolina has its work cut out for it, but that's what makes a champion anyway!
WEST is the BEST, fo sho'! UCLA may have LOVE but they also have LUCK! (ALL of America saw that ball come up over the corner from behind the goal, go in the basket, and count, when it should not have!) If they aren't in the Final Four after this easy road, then I personally don't want to see you anywhere near it for several years down the line, especially if you aren't going to win it all!

Report Offensive CommentI don't get why Tennessee is so high on everyones list. They are too inconsistent to run all the way to the final four.

Report Offensive CommentThe East is the hardest without a doubt. N.C., Tenn, U of L, N. D. and when Butler is a 7 seed, come on. Not to mention that somehow they have Indiana as 9 seed, thats one hell of a region, by fat the toughest, but I still think that UCLA will win it all.

Report Offensive Commentomg the east. I can see UNC, Tennesee, Louisville, or Notre Dame making a big time run at the final four.

Report Offensive CommentUNC definitely got no favors from the selection committee. Tennessee played in a down SEC this year but wins against Xavier and Memphis show just how great this team is. Tennessee is the best number two seed in the tournament.
Kansas is the weakest number 1 seed in the tournament and should therefore have to play the best number two seed.
c note | 03/18/08, 09:41 AM
Report Offensive Commenti think this is a very good td. and i'm voting for erwin, only because tenn. is inconsistent, and that bracket is tough. everyone keeps talking about nc's bracket but i have them winning the title. so does it really matter where they play? they will demolish the competition.
