I am going to Pick Wilt the Stilt's record of 55 rebounds.

This record will never be broken I think its too hard to reach the closest thing ive seen in the past 5 years come close to it was 30 rebounds by Kenyon Martin I think 3 years ago. Players will not come close, the only person I think might be Howard but even I think its not possible.

You're close with Wilt Chamberlain here but it's not the rebounds that astounds me the most:

100 points in a single game.

Let's give Kobe a round of applause for coming in second place with an amazing 81 points... 19 less then Wilt.

Compare that to rebounds. In second place is Bill Russell with 51... only 4 away. It can definitely be broken.

Short and sweet to start this TD.

I know its true what your saying about Wilt's points record its hard but it can be broken, depending of a player like Kobe, like that can break it.

Unfortunately Bill Russell and Wilt were both in an era were good big man werent around, just maybe a handful at that on the league. Players are now big men are 6'8 up which makes it even harder to achieve the record of rebounding.

Mutombo has reached 31 rebounds, Shaq 28, Howard 26 rebounds, KG 25x2, Ben Wallace the smallest guy on this list 28x2.

These are the closest guys who have tried to achieved it who are active. Its a very hard record to break.

Breaking 100 points, can be done specially how bad teams are playing defense now and days, one team that it can be easily done on I think would be Denver Nuggets. Cause they have no team defense. Marcus Camby, thats it. Kobe came close to it, even T-Mac had a good run at it as well, last player to come close to Wilt's rebound record was Bill who actually came close, and nobody else will.

I thought Yao Ming would when he got into the league but he is very unathletic. Howard might break the record, if he gets lucky.

Kobe's best chance came with 81 points, which is great but it's 19 off of the record. That's really not too close when you think of it. Even MJ "only" had a game high max of 69 points and he was arguably the best basketball player ever. That being said, the only thing that can happen are : 1) another MJ arrives with hover boots to lock in 100+ points in a single game; or 2) some guy has 1 fluky night. Let's be real here, a fluky night isn't going to happen when it comes to 100+ points.

Heights are only going up in the world and it's simply a matter of time before an 8 - 9 foot monster arrives in the NBA and dominates with rebounds. Even Dennis Rodman who is at 6'7 was a great rebounder. A freak of nature, but a great rebounder. This record can be broken.

The rebound record is goes 55, then 51. The points records goes 100, 81. That's a much bigger difference.

"Howard might break the record, if he gets lucky."

That's exactly my point--it CAN happen. Even you believe that the rebound record CAN be broken. 100 points? No way.

Kobe the person who holds most 3 point shots in one game, can break it. LBJ can do it he is a beast and best person to drive in. 19 points is 6 3 pointers and 2 field goals. This record was brought to threat recently.
Bill Russell was from the same ERA as Wilt the era of players being a lot smaller.
Like I said before Mutombo is the closest guy active who came close to it! and he was 25 rebounds behind it. thats alot harder then 19 points.
Shooting involves one on one most of the time. rebounding involves one player plus 3 more players.

8-9 monster will not come out without a a bunch of other 8-0 monsters, even taller. If thats what your saying then it can go easily either way, players who are that tall are just gonna put the ball in the hoop alot easier, and break his rebound record, blocking record, points record, most consecutive field goal record, heck they will break every record.

As of now do, the point record has came in assault the past 4 years, by a few players. Rebound record hasnt even come to threat the past 15 years.

Kobe "can" break it? His best chance is 81 points. Again, this is still 19 points off the mark compared to 4. Lyndon B. Johnson... err... LeBron James may be a beast but 100 points? Not going to happen.

If one really big man comes in to the NBA it can happen. The height of the average person is up globally. China appear to have genetically engineered Yao and he and his wife are both huge. They could easily sire a 10 foot tall child. Then it's just a matter of time.

Height plays little factor in 100 points. It's been a long standing record because it's too hard to break. It's taken nearly 40 years for someone to even "come close" but is 19 really that close when we compare how close Russell was with 4?

Despite the fact that you yourself believe the rebound record might be broken by Howard I am still losing so I think I'm hooped on this one. You have said Howard could do it, then you flip flop and say it won't be done. It's like John Kerry is here. :)

Anyways, neither record will be broken but I think the rebound record will be broken sooner. Even you believe that according to your second argument.

So far...both arguments are flawed

Standing Ovation for Kobe Bryant! I remember watching that game in pain. I was injured with two broken fingers that required surgey just days before, and my body was literally shaking in excitement. A shaking hand and that kind of injury doesn't mix.

March 18, 2008  04:03 PM ET

Since Russell, no one else has come near that 55 revound mark. Since Chamberlain, Kobe has came awful close to that record and LeBron has the talent to do so also when he gets older.

Vote to the left.

March 18, 2008  04:03 PM ET

Nobody will break either record.

March 18, 2008  04:03 PM ET

Its the rebounds. Nobody's even had a 40 board game since the end of the 1960's ended. Nobody has had 30 rebounds in a game in about 15 years.

Kobe made a real assault at 100 and showed it is, in a perfect storm, attainable.

March 18, 2008  04:05 PM ET

Both are great records, and both are hard to break, another one would be the the Blocks record thats about it

March 18, 2008  04:06 PM ET

rebounds easily, no one will ever break that record, that was an era of short people and this is the new era where people are much bigger, rebounds here, someone will explode and break 100 points... maybe.. kobe or lebron if they took over 50 shots they are able to do that

March 18, 2008  04:07 PM ET

IN today's game, neither of these can probably be broken. As much as I dont like Kobe, he did come close, but close is not getting there. Same goes for Walton with his 51 boards. Both of these records are unattainable, so I will wait for more arguments before I vote.

March 18, 2008  04:12 PM ET

Ill just say the rebound record because if you have to fight to get a reboudn from a 6'9 player then everything get harder. Points u can always shoot above someone

March 18, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Even the person I am arguing against thinks the rebound record can be broken but that's not good enough? Base this on argument and not what you think here people.

March 18, 2008  04:21 PM ET

"Compare that to rebounds. In second place is Bill Russell with 51... only 4 away. It can definitely be broken."

LOL....Yeah, there's a lot of guys like that around these days.....

March 18, 2008  04:35 PM ET

^ Hey, got to work with what I got here. Basketball isn't my thing. I'm trying to diversify man.:)

March 18, 2008  04:35 PM ET

Im just saying that not all records are impossible to break, and I am saying Howard might break the record, I am not blind eitehr, I might as well include him and show some of the flaws then say nobody is gonna break the point record when players have come close to it. Howard hasnt even had 30 rebounds in one game yet. However I would liek to think he might be able to break it.

March 18, 2008  04:35 PM ET

Wait for Yao Ming Jr. He'll be 10 feet tall and do it!

March 18, 2008  04:43 PM ET

Totally different game now, scoring is much easier so the 100 will eventually be broken.

March 18, 2008  04:46 PM ET

No person above 7'6" will ever be successful in the NBA. Knee problems, heart problems, poor ball handling skills, coordination issues, etc.

You're main argument was Russell was only 4 boards behind, but Russell was the same athletic rebounding freak that Wilt was and it was in the same era. Since they both retired nobody has had a 40 board game, whereas since Wilt retired I believe 4 guys have had 70 point games (percentages are roughly the same: 70 points to 100 points, 40 boards to 55 boards).

March 18, 2008  04:49 PM ET

My vote goes to thaDolph cause he was referencing 8ft. tall players.

March 18, 2008  04:59 PM ET

7'6 is the final cutoff? Not 7'6 1/2 or 7'7?

March 19, 2008  10:44 AM ET

FCB82 my dear friend the problem is ur just saying that there is gonna be just one 8-9 player! thats the problem!!! as genetics improve so is height, so its not just gonna be one player, its gonna be a bunch and the same thing is gonna happen. Plus if it gets to that height the rim would go up.
