Anderson's 2007 season was not a fluke. It is best described as "unexpected."

Thrust into the game in the second quarter in Week 1 against PIT, Anderson got what Frye could not; a first down. He even managed to lead a TD drive, but the Browns got ripped 34-7.

In Week 2, he had five touchdown passes against CIN, and led the Browns to a huge win - dropping 0-2 would have been killer for a young team.

After that, it seems the general consensus is that Anderson caught fire. But how well did he really do overall?

CLE was 0-4 in games where he threw 2+ INTs. He threw four of them in a crucial must-win Week 16 game against CIN. He didn't earn a rating higher than 83.3 in CLE's last five games.

Looking at his numbers, which really weren't great when viewed objectively (56 percent completion, 19 INTs, 82.5 rating), I say his season was not a fluke. but it certainly wasn't really that good either.

That's the level of his ability, and his consistency is the reason the Browns went 10-6, but missed the playoffs. 11-5 or 12-4 was reachable, but he did not perform well enough to get the team to that point. His terrible performance against Cincy cost them the playoffs.

Ok, first of all, I'm going to say that Anderson was the only reason the Browns stayed alive at all. They had a horrible defense which was shown during the week against Cincy that he threw 5 TD passes. They gave up like 50 points I think! If they had not one that everyone would've blamed their D.

11-5 or 12-4 were reachable indeed. They didn't not reach it because Anderson wasn't good enough. They didn't reach it because of the Browns D. I'm not going to say that Anderson was a fluke becasue he wasn't, before that season he never had a chance to start.

The only game that he was the main reason that they lost was in week 16. But c'mon, everyone has down weeks. Tom Brady couldn't throw a TD against the Jets. Peyton Manning threw 6 picks against the Chargers! 6 PICKS!

Anderson didn't have a chance to shine until this season. He came in, knowing that this was probably his first and last chance to prove himself and he played remarkably well.

The Browns also apparently think that it was not a fluke considering that contract extension that they gave him! No Anderson was not a fluke last year, he was actually underrated!

Out of room, more in next arguement

Underrated?? Whaaa?

Anderson had 4 games with a rating over 100. Four in 15 starts isn't all that great to begin with, but those four starts were against Cincinnati, Baltimore, Miami and St. Louis.

You may recognize them as four of the top 10 picks in April's draft. They had a combined 16 wins, and none of them finished higher than 22nd in the league in scoring defense.

Put simply, Anderson shredded bad teams. Problem is, he was mediocre against better teams.

PIT beat him twice, 4 TDs but 45 percent completion.

Defeated SEA but zero TDs to 1 INT

Destroyed by NE, 45 rating, three INTs.

He only played four games against playoff teams, was 1-3, and had 6 TDs to 5 INTs.

Underrated? Those numbers seem pedestrian at best.

Anderson filled a role, yes, he got the great skill position players to finally perform. However, he was benefitted tremendously by a great O-line (near league-low 14 sacks allowed), which gave him time to find those WRs downfield.

For as terrible as their D was, and for as "great" as Anderson was, it's interesting how, in a Week 16 Playoff Game, he threw four INTs, losing 19-14.

You sure that loss is on the defense?

When Pitt beat him Pitt had one of the NFL's best D's and he still threw 4 TDs!

The Browns D was terrible! They gave up the 19th most points which may not seem so bad until you consider that all of the teams that gave up more points missed the playoffs and had a combined record of those teams was 79-131. Some teams that gave up less points than them were the Chiefs, 49ers, and Rams!

Anderson led the Browns to a 7-5 division record in a tough AFC and to a 3-1 record in the NFC! And that one NFC loss came to an 8-8 team so it wasn't so bad!

Against Cincy, Anderson still had 2 TDs and threw for 250 yards. All of the Bengals points came in the second quarter and the Browns were beggining to make a comeback anyway. He had 1 bad quarter, that's all!

Like I said before, everyone has bad games. Brady threw 0 Tds in week 16 and Peyton threw 6 picks in week 10! The Colts fogave him and the Pats forgave Brady! Everyone has down days and that includes Anderson. He still ended the season with 3700 passing yards and 30 TDs!

When he threw for over a 100 QB rating it wasn't so close. He had over 140 twice and over 120 3 times. His lowest over 100 rating was 109!

Where are you getting your numbers from?

He couldn't have had a 7-5 divisional mark. They only play six games in the division. He was 1-3 against playoff teams, that's all that matters.

You gave him 5 100+ rated games. He had 4 - CIN, BAL, MIA, STL - and none came after Week 8.

Also, I'm generally not satisfied with my QB's game if he throws 4 INTs (not 3 like you suggested) along with two TDs and 250 yards against CIN's brutal D. You're right, though, all of CIN's points came in the 2nd quarter...2 TDs came as a result of 2 Anderson INTs...on consecutive pass attempts.

PIT beat him twice, and it was 4 TDs in two games. He also completed less than 50 percent of his passes in those 2 games.

This isn't about picking apart stats. I'm not even trying to throw him under the bus. I'm just saying perhaps a QB with an 82.2 rating and 19 INTs didn't really have all that great of a season.

By the second half of 07, he wasn't nearly as impressive as he started, and while he has heart, his 4 INTs cost CLE in a game where their D could have held on for a win.

The only thing flukish about his season was how much better he's made out to be than his stats indicate.

Sorry I meant 7-5 in the AFC (I'm watching the Nets game and not paying so much attention). I also never said that he had 3 picks in that game, I never even mentioned the picks...

I also only gave him 4 100+ QB Rating games, where are you reading from? 2 over 140 and 3 over 120 means that he had 3 games over 120 along with his 109 rating game. That is 4 games not 5....

He still threw for 3,700 yards and 30 TDs! He was sacked less than 20 times as well! The only reason that his QB Rating is so low is that he threw a lot of picks. Still... as Hannah Montana would say...
Nobody's perfect!
I've gotta work it!
Again and Again till I get it right!

Don't ask how I know that but he just has to "work it" until he can get more perfect. Everyone throws picks and makes mistakes. Big Ben threw 11 picks and Peyton Manning threw 14 picks! As a first year starter, Anderson is allowed to make more mistakes than those guys who have been starting their whole careers!

Yes he had one bad game that cost them their season but their D also had plenty of bad games that also cost them their season! Yes is was partly his fault but it was maily the Brown's D's fault!

out of room

Good luck, Da Masta, may the officials not **** the way they did Pitt last night. Yes, I'm bitter.

Not to bring up a sore subject but down in the south we did not see any of that game. I just watched the second half of the UCLA gamethis morning(love TIVO), that was a great one. But what happened in the PItt game, it definitey screwed my bracket, How did they get screwed?

March 23, 2008  11:33 AM ET

Dude do you know what the Browns Defense was ranked there is no way you pin some of those losses on Anderson the only one you can is the Cinnci game

March 23, 2008  11:59 AM ET

this was really hard to argue...

March 23, 2008  12:39 PM ET

I am not a fan of Pitt, and I live in BigTen country, but the officials definitely screwed Pittsburgh over last night.

March 23, 2008  12:52 PM ET

For now I gotta go with Steeler, some very impressive stats, better argument for now.

However Da Masta has potential in his argument, like you can say how the Browns' D was horrible.

In any case, very good TD, might change vote later.

LOL Da Masta, did you really just quote Hannah Montana?? Cripes...

19 is a ton more picks than 11 (didn't Ben throw 12?).

March 24, 2008  09:12 PM ET

Why is no one reading this TD? It's a good one!

March 24, 2008  09:30 PM ET

Yeah, what the deuce is going on here?? I feel like we're in the NCAA Women's Division III basketball tournament. We're competing, but no one's watching.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! Im sorry Da Masta, but Cooz EARNED my vote with that last comment.

March 25, 2008  02:18 AM ET

Vote left. Good arguments by both, but I'm admittedly being a homer. He was pretty good for the Beavers and will be good for the Browns. His head just exploded in the playoffs is all.
