Keeping up with the video Throwdowns, we move now to soccer!

How embarrassing is that?! It's a sure goal as long as he doesn't touch it and instead, he boots it as hard as he can and hits the crossbar! I can understand giving it a little nudge so that a defender can't come back and knock it away, but as hard as you can?

This has to be the most awkward moment in a soccer game. It's basic fundamentals and he completely blew it. Every kid in America, ok maybe not America, but every kid outside of America knows to just give the ball a little tap-tap-taparoo to get it into the net. A professional should know much better then to beat the ball into submission for no reason.

This is worse then missing the open layup, the 3 foot putt, and dropping a screen pass. At least with those three examples, there are other elements to take into account. Missing a wide open shot on goal because you tried to hammer the ball into the net is extremely awkward.

Good luck! Find a good one, everyone needs a good laugh!

AHHAHA I feel bad for him
But this will make you laugh even harder

http://youtube.com/watch?v=86AJje3ElDc

Its a Gay referee HAHAHA
IN an EPL match Newcastle vs. Middlesbourgh
funnyy
And I the miss in the goal was akward but more shocking and not akward.

And this Gay Ref. gave the most yellow cards and 2 red cards!
And plus at the end of the game he got a standing ovation from the crowd and he was LOVING IT.
I was cracking up.

Haha nice!

It got me laughing pretty hard, although to me it looked like it was staged for the fans. Definitely funny, but I don't know if I'd classify it as awkward because he seemed so natural when he was doing it. (for better or worse haha).

I'll agree that mine was shocking but I think that makes it even more awkward. Professional's, in the public's eye, are never supposed to miss the easy throws, catches, or shots. It is just stunning when it happens and that makes it so awkward. You see the guy running towards the ball and think, "He's just going to guide it into the net for the easy goal." What does he really do? He beats the hell out of the ball and misses!

Another element that adds to the awkwardness could be that the ball bounced back into play. I always find it humorous that something is blown so bad and you don't even have time to recover from it. He bonked one off the crossbar and then had to keep playing.

It's awkward indeed when a professional screws somethingup, that seems far too simple to mess up. A simple tap would've sufficed, but he decided to show off his leg and instead showed how professionals really are human.

Great video BTW!

Thanks

And even though it is natural still the FIFA commtiee accepted his application to be a ref.
And he still reffing today!!!!
And I should add the same way and action!!

This ref was living the limelight.....at the wrong time and place.

And on a laughing scale I think that my video will be a 8-9 and yours to be a 6-8 in my opionion and because akwardness makes you laugh..right?

But still both of these video are the most akwardness in soccer

Both are definitely awkward!

Haha not much else to say on this but I'll just reiterate what I've said above.

Missing the wide open, five feet away, shot on goal is about as awkward as it gets. Every kid in the world could make that shot! (yes, even us Americans) It is a basic fundamental of soccer to just give that ball a little nudge to make sure that nobody from the other team has any chance of getting to it. There is no need to give the ball the biggest kick that you have left.

Bouncing it off the crossbar is impressive and awkward in itself. But from five feet away? That makes it even worse. I'll say it again, there is no need to kick the ball as hard as possible when you're only five feet away with no one in front of you so stop you.

It's been fun!

I will do the same just overview both of my arguments

When a homosexual person comes to ref your game an akward feeling comes into the crowd and stadium

And when he gives so many yellow cards and Red Cards
and those red cards were not yellow then red it was red and red no yellow first.

I mean no one would like him to ref their game.
Even worse...he is still reffing

THESE TD'S ARE THE BEST
GOOD JOB YOUR LEADER

lol

March 24, 2008  01:42 PM ET

Is soccer very popular around here? Why no votes?

March 24, 2008  01:45 PM ET

I have no idea

March 24, 2008  01:45 PM ET

I am sad....

March 24, 2008  01:47 PM ET

My vote -- YES, YOU GUYS HAVE A VOTER!!! -- is going left... I think that the MOMENT was more awkward to the left... once the novelty wore off with the referee you just ended up with a bad arbiter who is still mucking up matches...

March 24, 2008  01:48 PM ET

And, no... soccer is NOT very popular around here. Even in SoccerNation tournament finals, you will rarely see more than fifteen voters on any given soccer throwdown topic. It is the unfortunate misery of the non-traditional sports fan in America... but rest assured, there ARE fifteen or so of us that you can regularly get to come in as long as they are around @ that time... so don't give up the good fight!

March 24, 2008  01:49 PM ET

Hey a 1st vote yipepee
but not 2 me :(

March 24, 2008  01:51 PM ET

I heard the video on the right is just the ref in normal motion, but played in reverse or something like that so vote to the left. I hope it is true though, because that is hilarious nonetheless

March 24, 2008  01:53 PM ET

No it is not Associated Press

That was an actual game in 2003
And real motion not reverssd or anything
But there is 1 which is reversed but not this one

March 24, 2008  02:12 PM ET

What an embarrassing miss!

March 24, 2008  02:12 PM ET

both real funny videos,vote right
