The 2002 Raiders vs. Patriots game was one of the most controversal playoff games. If you watched it which i think basically everyone on here has seen or heard about it it was clearly a fumble. That one call made the Raiders miss their chance of going to the super bowl that year. If you don't believe if it was a fumble look.

Anyone who looks at that picture, look in the bottom right hand corner; it says RAIDER FANS MAGAZINE. Obviously a biased opinion. The call was made and the Brady rule created. You can't be sad about a call that sent your team into a seemingly downward spiral since (other than the Super Bowl appearance). That team fell apart after those two playoff years and many a Raider fan loves to blame the fact that they got cheated and sometimes their inability to win now on that one play. The call was made as it should have been and it was even challenged and reviewed. The play was called right and you shouldn???t be complaining. Be a man about it! Don???t be someone who complains over a blown call that was called correctly. That was obviously not a fumble seeing as he didn???t have both hands on the ball. One hand was hovering over the ball as he was about to rear back and chuck it down field.

It doesnt matter if im a raiders fan ive talked to patriots fans whove said its a fumble and it definitely was he pump faked and borught the ball back to his body and undner him. So what if it was reviewed thats one refs opinion he did have 2 hands on the ball and still they made that rule just for that game.

Yeah, no, it was a fumble and will always be seen as a fumble no matter what anybody says. Even if he was pump faking that is still him going in a throwing motion and most pump fakes come and then the ball is let loose a second later. That one referee made a very good call and it will stand as the beginning of the Patriots dynasty and Super Bowl wins. Also, you really need to get over it. And whatever Patriots fans you talked to were obviously just being nice and knew it wouldn't affect their Patriots in the future or ever for that matter. They were just not to rub it in your face.

Rub what in my face? An undeserved win. I am over it i just wanted to start a throwdown. If you bring the ball back to your body its a fumble, not an incomplete pass, a fumble. Tom Brady didnt even argue when they called it a fumble because he knew it was, he even said in a interview i felt so bad at the moment i let my team down but then when they said it wasnt a fumble he was like yeah thats not a fumble. If the quaterback thinks he fumbled it, he most likely fumbled it.

But he didn't say, "Hey, wait a minute ref, I fumbled that d*mn ball now you give it to the Raiders!" No, he went, "Oh, I guess I didn't fumble it. Let's get back out there and win this ball game!!!" Yeah, no fumble. It was a deserved win for a team that had been creamed in every Super Bowl they'd been in (1985 against Da Bears and 1996 against the Pack). They beat a tough team in the Raiders and they didn't with a good call made by the ref. Dredging up such memories won't get you that win it will only bring the stress of looking at the man and the team that stopped you from getting to the AFC Championship game. The call was good and was reviewed. You can???t really argue with a review by a very good referee.

.... LET IT GO!

June 12, 2007  10:49 PM ET

Besides the Rams probably would have won anyways.

June 12, 2007  10:52 PM ET

Good point AirforceBat, the Rams would have kicked the crap out of these guys in the Super Bowl. The score probably would have been like 28 to 10

June 12, 2007  10:56 PM ET

You are probably saying that based on the last 3 years but that year the raiders were a force and if the raiders gave a patriots a run for their money and the patriots beat the rams the raiders couldve beat the rams.

June 12, 2007  10:57 PM ET

the rams shouldn't have even been there, it was a crap call, bert emanuel caught that ball. i think that game ended like 11-6 (bucs was opponent) i think.

June 12, 2007  10:57 PM ET

yeah, it wasn't a fumble. and man, i still can't get enough of super bowl XXXVII, what happened there derek? oh yeah, the bucs impenetrable defense, maybe the best of all time.
GOOOOO BUCS!!

June 12, 2007  11:00 PM ET

and edubb, you are absolutely right, i still remember that play like it was yesterday, bert definitely made the catch, after the game they made the "bert emanuel rule" stating that if that circumstance happened, it would be called a catch. that was a blown call. but we won super bowl XXXVII, so i suppose it's alright, although it was not the right call

June 12, 2007  11:00 PM ET

Yeah, that Buccaneers defense handed it to the Raiders offense, 48-24, owned in the face.

June 12, 2007  11:03 PM ET

Owned in the face? haha
and the bucs are a different team then the rams

June 12, 2007  11:03 PM ET

yeah, rich gannon threw 10 interceptions the entire season, and then threw 5 against the bucs in the super bowl, 3 returned for touchdowns by dwight smith(2) and, fittingly, derrick brooks, who had 6 defensive touchdowns on the year.

June 12, 2007  11:03 PM ET

Oh that first line in my second argument should read:

"Yeah, no, it was not a fumble and will always be seen as not being a fumble no matter what anybody says."

June 12, 2007  11:03 PM ET

The rams were still a better offense.

June 12, 2007  11:03 PM ET

Actually I think it was Dexter Jackson who returned two of them because he was named the MVP of the Super Bowl.

June 12, 2007  11:04 PM ET

But seriously man... get over it.

June 12, 2007  11:05 PM ET

The 2002 Raiders lost in the Super Bowl against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots have won three Super Bowls.

June 12, 2007  11:07 PM ET

no, it was dwight smith, dexter just had 2 interceptions, but they were early in the game, and effected the game the most, that's why he was named MVP

June 12, 2007  11:08 PM ET

You can not compare teams like this

June 12, 2007  11:10 PM ET

Okay, you're right Red Sox ATW, I just looked it up, but I could have sworn that Jackson got an INT TD Return in that game...oh well, that was a long time ago though.

June 12, 2007  11:20 PM ET

yeah, but i remember like it just happened, probably cuz i was at the SB that year. but i think in 2 years the bucs will be a SB contender again, they're starting to head in the right direction again, with a younger defense starting to form and a better O-line

June 12, 2007  11:22 PM ET

The bucs dont really have a qb though i mean they got jeff garcia for probably this year and chirs simms might be decent but i dont know about super bowl maybe the playoffs.
