Tim Duncan is the greatest Power Forward of All-Time.

With Duncan as the centerpiece, the Spurs have won four NBA titles (1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007)

Since he joined the team as the first pick in the 1997 draft, the Spurs have had the best winning percentage in any of the four professional major sports (.709).

In his 10 full seasons in the league (he's currently in his 11th), he won the Rookie of the Year, he has made All-NBA first team nine times and second team once. He has been named to the all-defensive first team seven times and the second team three times. He's been to the NBA Finals four times, has four rings. And he has three Finals MVP awards to go with his two NBA MVP awards, and one All-Star Game MVP.

Because his style looks simple and he never seeks attention or accolades, Duncan is often taken for granted by the media and fans.

Sir Charles

The stat part is simple. There are four players in NBA history that have compiled 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley.

Listed at 6-6,said to actually be 6-4, he played power forward as well as anyone, generally dominating players 6" taller.

Barkley could take a board from the crowd, rumble down the floor and bring down the rim. He could score from paint or perimiter. He could make a steal in the passing lane, or block a center's shot. He was truly a beast.

Quote from Bill Walton:

"He plays everything; he plays basketball. There is nobody who does what Barkley does. He's a dominant rebounder, a dominant defensive player, a three-point shooter, a dribbler, a playmaker"

Dont knock him for the rings, he along with many others had their prime fall at the wrong time, there was some guy wearing 23 doing the winning.

Career accomplishments next argument.

Tim Duncan carrer numbers:
PPG- 21.7
RPG- 11.9
APG- 3.2
BPG- 2.4

TOTALS:
Points- 17,475
Rebounds- 9,563
Assist- 2,554
Blocks- 1,955

And that's while only averaging 37.3 minutes/game, AND playing in a half court offense.

You wrote: "There are four players in NBA history that have compiled 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists". Well, Charles played 16 years. Duncan is on his 11th. So it's safe to say Duncan will be the fifth.

I'll use quotes too. More reputable than Bill Walton:

"He is probably the best player to ever play the position the way he plays it," said Utah coach Jerry Sloan, who coached Jazz great Karl Malone, and coached against Charles.

"I think all around, there's never been a big forward quite like him," said Hall of Fame coach and analyst Jack Ramsay. "Bob Pettit was a great scorer and rebounder. Karl Malone was a more powerful player, but they didn't have the versatility Tim does. Kevin McHale was probably the best low-post, back-to-the-basket big forward, and he was a good defender, but he, too, couldn't do the things Duncan can do."

The purpose of the quote itself is not about the reputation of the quoted. I felt the quote really summed up Sir Charles and what kind of player he was. Your 2nd quote is more based upon what others cant do and that wasnt my goal.

Barkley had more ppg with 22.1 and more assist per game with 3.9. Not to mention Barkley stepped up for playoffs avg 23ppg with nearly 13 boards p/g.

Accomplishments:

NBA MVP (1993); All-NBA First Team (1988, '89, '90, '91, '93); All-NBA Second Team (1986, '97, '92, '94, '95); All-NBA Third Team (1996); 11-time All-Star; All-Star MVP (1991);
One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Olympic gold medalist (1992, '96).

Duncan is no Sir Charles

"Duncan is no Sir Charles" I know, he's Tim Duncan, and he's better.

To drive it home even more. "Sir" Charles himself says Tim Duncan is the greatest of all-time.

Tim Duncan dominates on BOTH ends of the court. That's more than I can say for Charles. Duncan has over 1100 more blocks than Charles. And defense wins Championships. Check out Tim's hardware. I'm not saying Charles isn't one of the greatest PF, but he's not better than Duncan.

Barkley is 6'4". Duncan is 6'11". The size advantage let's Duncan accomplish more on the court.

Duncan too stepped it up in the Playoffs:
PPG- 23.8
RPG- 12.5
APG- 3.5
BPG- 2.8

The only difference is when Duncan gets to the Finals, he wins. 4 for 4, Charles only got there once. 0 for 1. You can say Charles played against Jordan, but I would say Duncan is this era's "Jordan".

Duncan had one of the most impressive Finals performances in 2003 when he averaged 24.2 points, 17.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 5.3 blocks against the New Jersey Nets. In the series-clinching Game 6 win, he came within two blocked shots of the only quadruple-double in NBA playoff history with 21 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists and eight blocks.

To compare Duncan to Jordan is ludacris. Not to take anythign away from Timmy, but if Sir Charles had played current competition there would be rings. Or we could say the comparison of Tim being "todays" Jordan is spot on, a player not 1/3rd as good is equally dominant against todays competition? Its not even so much the competition to the man in todays game as it is competition to the team. The Spurs have stayed together, played together, and won together. The togetherness goes a long way in a league where its just not common. Today players play for the highest bidder.

Duncan does with the block battle based strictly on height. However, I wouldnt say he was a better defender. Barkley could physically control the competition and defend without a shot attempt.

Barkley beats Duncan on his ability to score from behind the arc and get the ball up and down the floor. Despite the strange stature Sir Charles played much faster than Duncan.

Charles Barkley played in an era of extraordinary competition and stood out as the best. Sir Charles is the best power forward of all time.

Good luck to you Frank. I await your choice.

Plus, Barkley could probably out eat and drink Duncan.

how can you compare duncan to sir charles, you guys gotta understand that in comparision to the days of barkely, malone, stocton, jordan, pippen, dominique, birdman, magic, etc..... the league has been relatively weak in terms of dominant players ot take the titles through duncans era, shaq and timmy are the only 2

its hard to say that the league is full of weak players right now frank.....we look at those players you mentioned in high reguard because there careers are over and they have numerous stats to back them up with....the players that Duncan is playing against still have great athetisicm and im sure there will be a handfull of names mentioned that duncan played against when conversation comes up in 5-10 years...

March 27, 2008  03:07 PM ET

shaq, kobe, dwad tmac, jhoward pipen jordan garnnet paul pierce baron davis, chris paul, lebron, paol gasol, i mean these names will be just as big as players you mention....just in due time...

I used to be a huge Charles Barkley fan. I was going to vote for Mr. fundamental argument, but now that I think about it. Charles Barkley was pretty darn good, not only that, Charles Carried teams that if Timmy was the go to guy on wouldn't have been as successful. I'm talking Charles in his prime. He was a beast. Besides, Karl Malone and James Worthy were better then Tim.
