In my mind it is one game. When you have only one game, you have to play on the edge and be prepared for anything. If one person makes a mistake, it can cost a team a championship. With a series, errors are still important, but not as much as in a series. It is also not as common for risks to be taken in series until the last game, unlike one game.

Ah feels good to be back on here....
Anyway the better team should win the championship. Therefore a series is the best way to determine a championship. In one game, a guy can have a lucky game, or the team could just ride a hot streak into the championship game. In a series, the better team shows. The team with depth, better players, and better coaches that can adjust will come out victorious.
Physical exhaustion aside, do you really think the NY Giants were better than the New England Patriots? If those teams met in a best-of-3, best-of-5, or even best-of-7 series, do you think the Giants could beat the Patriots more times than the Patriots could beat the Giants? I don't think so.
A prime example of this is the 2007 ALCS between Cleveland and Boston. The Indians had just dispatched the Yanks while the Sox had taken care of the Angels. The Sox fell behind 3-1 but battled back behind wins from Beckett, Schilling, and Matsuzaka, showing they had more depth in their starting pitching than the Indians.
The series determines the real champion, who can endure the most.

That kind of leads to saying "Any Given Day, a team can win or lose". Just look at New England. When it came down to one game, they didn't buckle down, and it cost them. Had for some reason the NFL Championship had been a series, they would have shrugged off the loss and whooped the Giants in the reast of the games. One game that decides a championship is better at least for the fan in my eyes just because it's a one-shot opportunity. Hit or Miss. You either win it or lose it.
DJTG_2010: USAIN BOLT! said 03/28, 06:56 PM
Ok sure, but shouldn't the best team be champion? Shouldn't the team that shows they're consistent and can battle back and forth and overcome deficits be the legitimate champion?
Any team can win one game. The better team will win the series most of the time. In one game, there is a 50-50 chance of the better team winning. How do you think a league feels when a team barely sneaks into the playoffs, then wheels of a four game winning streak and then is champion? Series are designed to stop that.
Leagues want the best team to win their championship. The best team does not necessarily win one game. The best team wins a series.

The best team does when a series, but with a one game championship everything is better for the fan because #1 there's a better chance of an upset, #2 If the fan wants to see their favorite team play live, they won't have to spend as much money, #3 it just makes every second count.

Report Offensive CommentFor football, it has to be one game. Having them play a series would no doubt be physically exhausting.

Report Offensive CommentIn a series, the better team USUALLY wins, or maybe I should say, in a series the best team comes out on top more often than in a one and done game.
That being said, you gotta love the one and done.

Report Offensive Commentit depends on the sport. I think pro hockey, bball, and baseball need series. Football is way too violent to have a series and have everyone stay healthy. College basketball only needs one game...I certainly don't need to watch a series of UNC vs montana community college or whatever.

Report Offensive CommentReason why MLB, NHL, and NBA play a series playoff is because they play a plethora of regular season games..162, 82, and 82 respectively. Since they played so many games, might as well make the playoff matchups a lot of games as well( as in a best of # series). It's in their nature. Why make it one game playoff for them after so many games, it really won't make sense. Now in the NFL, they only play 16 reg season games, so a 1 game playoff is more logical.

Report Offensive CommentThe same can be said DJ about a series. A hot team can win 4 straight easy in a series, just as easy as they can win one. One game is the way to go. The Playoffs are the series, and all the weak teams are eliminated in the playoffs. The best ones with depth, better players, and better coaches that can adjust will come out victorious as you would say, and meet in a one game atmoshphere. If the Patriots truly had better depth, they would have been fresher. Better players? They would have blocked better for Brady, and made the plays. Better Coaching? Where was Belicheat compared to Coughlin? So your theory is wrong. The better team will show up in one game, just as easy as a series, and the winner will have won fairly. Vote to Jdawg.
