So news got out that after the Blazers left town on Wednesday for a game against Golden State, Oden must have gotten bored and decided to play in a couple of pickup games at a local 24 Hour Fitness. The local blog even said he was dunking on everyone (no kidding!).

My first question is...why is he not traveling with the team like he has been all season?!? While I see the good in his desire to play and his intention is good, I have to wonder why he thought it was a good idea for him to play against some 5'-6" Joe Smith and risk serious injuries to his still recovering knee.

Bottom line is...Was this a display of self motivation by Oden, or poor understanding of his worth to the Blazer franchise?

While I love the enthusiam Oden showed by playing, the team NEEDS to sit down with him ASAP and and make sure he is not to pull this stunt again, and it is for his own good until his knee is completely healed!

WHAT!!!! If he wants to practice let him. And when you say dunking you fail to mention that they arent NBA courts they are much lower so it doesnt take much effort. not only that but he also should stay loose he hasnt played all year and playing with joe smith keep him in shape let him besides I highly doubt it would be a physical game not many normal people would get rough with a 7 footer

so cal...I hope you didn't just vote for yourself. =)

Anyway, the last time I went to 24Hours, the rims and court was regulation size. As I said, I admired the kid's self motivation for keeping himself active.

BUT...there is a reason why the team has trainers, doctors, conditioning coaches, etc...

He has a rehab regimen that he needs to follow, not just go join a pick up game on a whim like you and I.

Also, imagine you are owner Paul Allen and think about how concern you would be if your franchise center is not following his rehab routine, no matter how honorable it may be.

Once he is fully recovered, I have no problem seeing him rip the rim down at 24Hours, but not during his rehab. I played with Jermaine O'Neal at one of these local 24 Hours places when he was still in Portland, so it's not a big deal. But not for Oden in this stage of his rehab.

I see where you are coming from but I also heard of him dunking the ball at a team practice if they didnt talk to him then why should they now?

And yes i did vote for myself

WTF! Fannation allows you to vote for yourself on a TD?!?

He's been dunking in practice, but the team is telling him to ease off of that even. Let's just say that in practice, it's a control environment where he's being monitored. At 24 Hours, some Blazer hating lunatic (such as those damn Lakers fans...just kidding) could hit him on the knee and he'll be out another @#$%^&* year. Portland has big plans and it begins in Sept. 2008 with a fully healed Oden.

This is a very cut and dry case of what not to do for someone in Oden's situation.

All right i know when Im beat I look forward to when Andrew Bynum Facials oden next time they play

Um wow that seems like a pretty poor decision by Oden if it is true. Also so cal the height of the basket at the gyms are the same height as the ones the NBA plays on. I'm leaning left.

Left got my vote, but personally if I were an owner I would not want any player on my team going down to a local gym to play a pick up game. There are too many freaky accidents that could happen that could ruin a franchise. Coming down on an ankle wrong and breaking it could set a franchise back a year.

Philly-

Agreed. I saw a guy put his leg through a glass window once...with re-bars going into his leg and all. Was not a pretty sight.

Damn so cal, you take the fun out of TD'ing. You need better arguments next time.

As for facials, they go both ways. Bynum vs. Oden definitely has intrigues for years to come. I still don't think your boy Bynum would play the way he did this year if it wasn't for his "teammate" Kobe thowing him under the bus.

Oden is a kid in a man's body much like shaq was without the EGO..Thats the difference Oden doesnt know yet how valauble a player he is while shaq came into the league with fake humility..

Paul allen needs to hook oden up with an X-box 720 or something and sit his @ S S down...

It was without a doubt a **** move to go out and risk injury. This attests to his immaturity. Someone definitely needs to speak to him. I admire his courage, but his judgement is another matter.

The most hilarious thing about this TD was this line:

"And when you say dunking you fail to mention that they arent NBA courts they are much lower so it doesnt take much effort. "

Dude, you're an idiot. The rims are ten feet- just as they are everywhere else. The only thing that may be different is the dimensions of the court itself.

Let's just say that McMillan has chewed Oden's a'ss out for what not being more aware of the situation.

But if this is the kind of controversy the team gets nowadays, I will take it. It's better than anything Damon, Sheed, Ruben, Quintel, Bonzi, Zbo, etc... did during their best behaviors.

One more bad apple (DMiles) to get rid of this summer, and the Jail Blazer era will be officially over!

This was stupid on Oden's part. The last thing he needs is to re-injure himself playing a pick-up game. The Blazers have all the right in the world to be angry.

Vote to my dog, Odenator.
