Rules: The player can be active or retired, but must have played at least 5 years for the team he was picked for. A player can be picked from a team that had a different name (for example, the Wshington Senators became the Minnesota Twins).
Players 1st, arguments 2nd and 3rd please

Rangers- Nolan Ryan

Mariners - Ken Griiffey, Jr.

A's - Jimmie Foxx

Angels - Francisco Rodriguez

Rangers-Ivan Rodriguez

Mariners-Jr

A's-Foxx

Angels-Garret Anderson

So our differences are Ryan vs. Pudge, and K-Rod vs. Anderson. I almost picked Anderson since he and i share the same birth month AND date.

Ryan vs. Pudge

Ryan is the career stirkeouts leader, and even though he played for Texas late in his career (1989-1993), he still led the league in Ks for 1989 AND 1990. He pitched 7 no hitters in his illustrious career, and had 15 CGs and 6 Shutouts as a Ranger. He was an 8 time All-Star, only once with the Rangers. His career ERA with the Rangers was a decent 3.43. Out of all the accolades, this proves he is the best player on the Rangers in their history.

K-Rod vs. Anderson

K-Rod's ERA is a mere 2.37, the best of any closer ever to pitch for the Angels. In 6 seasons, he has recorded 146 saves, and is the most dominant closer in baseball aside from Papelbon. He was a major part of the Angels WS win in 2002. He is a 2x All Star, but his career is still young. So even though GA went to more All-Stars, he ahs been around 1 years longer. K-Rod led the league in saves in 2005 and 2006, and won the Rolaids Relief Man Award, awarded to the best closer, in 2006. In 2004, he recorded 123 K's, amazing for a closer.

Nolan Ryan pitched 5 years for the Rangers. He went 16-10, 13-9, 12-6, 5-9, 5-5 (W-L records). Four of his 5 years as a Ranger, Ryan had a higher era than his career era!! That is not nearly impressive at Ivan's accomplishments while with the team.

Pudge won a gold glove every year from 1992 to 2001. That's 10 straight gold gloves. He also won an MVP in '99. He was also an all-star 10 straight years with the Rangers.

He batted over .300 his last 8 years with the Rangers, reaching highs of .332 and .347!

He never struck out more than 89 times in a season.

He slugged over .540 4 straight years!

Threw out over 450 baserunners as a Ranger!

Ivan is a HOF lock! And his best years were with Texas! No disrespect to Nolan Ryan, but his years with Texas were not exactly great.

Ryan was still bringing heat though as a membe rof the Rangers. It turns out 2 of his 7 no hitters were as a member of the Rnagers and he was 43 years old! Pude may be an HOF lock, but Ryan is ALREADY in the HOF. His plaque in the HOF shows him wearing a Rangers cap. He is the epitome of the Rnagers, and is synonymous with the Rangers.

Back to K-Rod now. I mentioned he had 123 K's in 2004. Thats almost as much as most starting pitchers get in one year! Anderson hasnt batted over .300 for his past three seasons and he only ever batted more than .326 once and that was his rookie year. As good as he is, pitching is what wins championships. And they couldnt do it with percival as their closer. They did it with K-Rod though. Was he the sole reason they won? No, not at all. But he was a big part of it and was and is the BEST player the Angesl have ever had.

Actually what you said is not true. The angels won the WS with Percival as closer, not K-rod. Percival had 3 saves against my Giants in the '02 WS. K-rod went 1-1 in the WS. He actually got a loss! Since that WS, K-rd is 0-2 in the playoffs.

2002 was one of Garret's greatest years! K-rod only played 5 reg. season games! Angels won 99 games that year, largly because Anderson had 195 hits, 56 doubles, 29 hr, 123 rbi, hit .305 and slugged .539!!!

As an Angel, Anderson has over 2,200 hits, 250 hr, 1,200 rbi, 462 doubles.

He has the longest hitting streak in franchise history.
He has hit more singles than any other Angel in franchise history.
He has more rbi's than any other Angel in history.
He has most career doubles.
He has most career hits.
He has most rbi in one game.(10 against the Yanks)
He has most extra-base hits.
He has most career total bases.
Most HR as an Angel? Anderson is second all-time!

No, K-rod has had 5 nice years as a relief pitcher for the Angels, but the greatest Angel? It's Garret Anderson.

I'll put them up a little later, cool?

March 28, 2008  11:30 AM ET

March 28, 2008  11:36 AM ET

FROD? :-)

March 28, 2008  11:43 AM ET

I did a scouring of all players that evere played for the Angels, and Jimmer, thats all I could come up with. Im going to do my best with it

March 28, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Gonets - I had one for the Angels I was going to use....I fanmailed it to you so I don't give your opponent any ideas.

March 28, 2008  11:51 AM ET

I'm sure I thought of the same one, rstowe.

March 28, 2008  11:58 AM ET

Tim Salmons was edged out. Chuck Finley too.

March 28, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Reggie Jackson for the Angels!

March 28, 2008  12:00 PM ET

Jim Fregosi would have been a stellar pick for the Angels

March 28, 2008  12:00 PM ET

Pudge is a good choice for the Rangers...

Gonna have to wait for the arguments on this one....Pudge v Ryan is probably closer than it appears and using 2 current active players for the Angels is going to be difficult.

March 28, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Rod Carew...??

March 28, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Didn't Rod Carew play at least 5 years for the angels as well....don't feel like looking it up....

March 28, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Hey Gonets, I wouldn't mind doing one of these TD's, you feel like challenging me to any that you haven't done yet?

March 28, 2008  12:04 PM ET

He certainly did stowe. Finished his career there.

March 28, 2008  12:07 PM ET

So both guys missed Reggie and Carew (2 HOFers) for K-Rod and Anderson?

Oops...

March 28, 2008  12:10 PM ET

If only theirs stats while on that team count....

Reggie's years weren't all great...

Carew's only atttribute was his BAA while on the team....

March 28, 2008  12:11 PM ET

Reggie and Carew didn't have their best years with the Angels.

March 28, 2008  12:12 PM ET

The only thing i missed was i might have put Nolan Ryan on the Angels! DAMN it!

March 28, 2008  12:15 PM ET

Fregosi wasn't a good idea either...

March 28, 2008  12:20 PM ET

I was thinking Nolan Ryan. Surprised you didn't catch that rstowe.
