The Volunteer's, which were ranked #1 for one game after ending the mighty Memphis Tigers undefeated season on the road, just to lose to another state rival Vanderbilt. The Volunteers shouldn't be considered contenders for a variety of reasons.

1) They can't win in the tournament. They have never ever in the history of their fine school been to the Elite Eight. They also can't win the SEC Tournament, but that is a different story.

2) They Take Ill-Advised Shots. Tennessee had the worst shot selection out of all of the teams in the tourney.

3) They Can't Get Out Of The Women's Shadow. The Volunteer men have never have been as good as they are now, and they still aren't the best team on campus.

4) Bruce Pearl Is Not A Winning Coach. Bruce Pearl as good as a job he has done down there can't seem to find the magic formula in Knoxville. In his few years there he has 0 Post-season SEC Titles, numerous losses to rivals Vanderbilt and Memphis, and never advancing to the Elite Eight while being given high seeds.

In conclusion, Tennessee should be considered like Duke, fear them if your a low seed, but if your a 8 seed or lower, you can take them.

How can u ever argue this?

Here are a look at my counter-arguments:

1.) They can't win in the tournament? they lost to a louisville team that is playing outstanding ball right now and would ebat almost any team on any given day in the tourny this ear. Also, i think they proved they can win in the tournament by making it to the sweet six. it's not that they can't win they are just going up against outstanding teams. Like last year, they lost by one to a powerhouse OHio STate team

2)Tennessee does not have the worst shot selection in all of the tourny. How can u say teams like Portland State Siena and other lower seeds have better shot selection? ridiculous.

3)It's not that they can't get out of the shadow it's just women's absketball is easier to be dominating cuz ofthe 4 year rule. They never lose their players till they graduate which cuauses u too become a dynasty.

4)Bruce Pearl is a WINNNING coach. he led the Vols to their first number one ranking, a number 2 seed, and an upset of #1 memphis. He is definately a winner!

also, they may never win a championship anytime soon but they are definately a CONTENDER every year.

It doesn't matter what seed you lose to, as I remember, Tennessee had a substantial lead at half time during The Ohio State Game and laid an egg that would make the easter bunny proud in the second half.

It doesn't matter how good of a team you have when it comes to shot selection. the Volunteers shoot the 3 way to often to little avail, they can shoot themselves out of games.

Bruce Pearl has one games, but with the exception of Memphis he has trouble winning the big ones. They lost to Vandy at home in their first game as #1, they lost in the SEC tourney, they barely beat a subpar Butler squad, and they lost to an underdog Louisville squad, which as good as they are should not beat a former #1 ranked team.

Every year people say Duke is a contender, it doesn't mean they are look at what happens to certain teams in the tourney, they crack under the pressure, The Vols are one of those teams.

This TD is obviously over so I have one NCAA thing to say, Stephen Curry, if he stays for another or all 4 years in college, will go down as one of the greatest college basketball players of all time. right now if Davidson gets to the Final Four I would have him in the top 5. that is my opinion share yours

gotta remember, in 3 yrs weve gone from a school who didnt play mens basketball to a #1 ranking, a #2 seed, and 2 sweet 16 appearances, the future is looking bright

So far a pretty easy vote for tgriff. It's almost impossible to predict that Tennessee can't be a contender for the next several years.

**** Tennessee has always played Men's Basketball, What are you smoking

Gotta vote for tgriff on this one...much better arguments....

basketballguru...so every team that never made a #1 rank in the regular season and seeded #2 and lower in the tourney, that has already lost should never be considered a threat ever again.... worst idea ever

"The Tennessee Volunteer's Men Should No Longer Be Considered A Serious Threat In The Tourney In Future Years To Come"

So you would damn future Tennessee teams becasue of the failures of the current squad? This is college basketball, each year is like a new hand at the poker table. Seniors and a few NBA prospects leave and freshmen come in and off we go again with new teams and new hope.

As a lifetime UNC fan, I appreciate almost any negative statement in regard to Duke, but a sense of truth and fair play dictates that I can not abide your assessment of Duke. They have had their issues the last couple of years but come on, Coach K and Duke have been an elite program for 25+years. They are a threat to win the ACC and NCAA nearly every year. they were the runner-up to UConn in 99 in a great game. Won it all in 01 and the Final Four in 04. They are 4th all-time in NCAA tourney wins behind Kentucky, UNC and UCLA.

You also can not trivialize the accomplishment s of Coach Summitt by attributing her success to her kids staying all 4 years. That makes no sense. ALL schools keep their female basketball players for 4 years. How does that explain her dynasty?? Tennessee and CT stand atop women's college basketball because they have the two finest Coach's in the game running the show. If and when the men's team wins a Championship, they will get their due. The problem is, year in, year out the women's team is great. Until the men reach that level of consistancy, they will be in Summitts shadow!

Based on these arguments, a basketball guru you are not! lol

this is a first i agree with tgriff.....

B_BALL guru i bet the only reason you know of Curry is because of the tourney.
If he was going to be 1 of the "GREATEST" players of all-time he should have been recognise before the Tourney even began.

I have known Curry before the tourney because of the fact that he is one of the leading scorers in the nation for the last two years, you shouldn't jump to conclusions JoseRamos
