ESPN's Top 10 receivers is a joke and just brings more embarrassment to the idiots who work for ESPN

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=sando_mike&id=3309223

This is terrible. Let's see everything that the idiots got wrong.

-Randy Moss, Michael Irvin, Paul Warfield, Charlie Taylor, Steve Largent, and Cris Carter ahead of Marvin Harrison: So let me get this straight. Randy Moss is better than Marvin Harrison. I could see that. Marvin's more consistent, catches more passes, and even though Randy didn't have a good QB in Oakland, he didn't have to share catches and TDs with Reggie Wayne. Michael "WHERE'S THE F*CKING COCAINE?" Irvin, Warfield, Taylor, Largent, and Carter? That's a joke.

-No Tim Brown or Art Monk. What's with ESPN and old players? When they did their "Dream Team" they had Don Hutson above Jerry Rice and Otto Graham above Elway & Montana. Brown and Monk are definite top 10 receivers.

-The Panel is a joke. We've got Raymond Berry, Boyd Dowler, Mike Holgrem, Ken Houston, Keyshawn Johnson, Warren Moon, and Ted Thompson. Why are their no corners here? If anyone would know, a corner would. Darrell Green would have been a good choice. Why is Keyshawn on here? He's an idiot.

This is a joke. This is indefensible

First off, in any list that is made. there will be people left out who everyone thinks should be on there.

Don Hutson: He may be an older player, and compared to today, he isn't the guy we think of as a great reciever. But as it says, when Hutson retired he set 18 NFL records, that's impressive for any player.

Moss>Harrison: Moss is a much more dominant reciever (due to his sive), and has shown his ability on different teams. Marvin has had Wayne, but that frees up space so he can't be double covered, not to mention he plays w/ the illustrious Peyton Manning. While Moss has played for Daunte (in his prime), he also had to play on a horrible Oakland team for which he still clipped the thousand yard mark.

Let's compare Irvin w/ Tim Brown.

Brown played 5 more years than Irvin, and here are the differences:

344 more receptions
3030 more yards

Irvin (had his body been able to keep up) would've eclipsed (or come close to those numbers). Not to mention Irvin averaged 15.9 YPC, while Brown was 13.7.

However, Brown should be in over TO (one mistake). But not as bad as you are saying.

Hutson should be on the list. No one is disputing that.

Moss is not better than Harrison. Harrison has been more consistent, and it isn't like he has always played with great QBs as well. Under Mora, Peyton was not nearly as good as he is now. Before Marvin's injury, he had 8 straight years of 1000+ yards and 10+ touchdowns. He also holds the record for catches in a year. Randy Moss has had over 100 receptions twice in his career. Harrison has had over 100 catches 4 times. Harrison has won a Super Bowl. Moss hasn't. Harrison and Moss are had to compare because they are different styles, but Harrison is definitely better.

So your saying Irvin would be able to get 344 catches and 3030 yards in the last 5 years of his career? He was already starting to slow down, and he would have had to play some years without Aikman. Brown never played with a great QB, but he still had better stats than almost every receiver in NFL history.

1. Rice
2. Hutson
3. Harrison
4. Brown
5. Moss
6. Carter
7. Largent
8. Monk
9. Reed
10. Swann

I saw that as an attack on Hutson, my mistake.

Let me first criticize your list, with Lynn Swan. 5,000 career yards recieving. He shouldn't even be considered top 20. He had some great games in the SB, but we can't take that out of proportion. I would put a Warfield (8,000 yards) over him, heck I would even put TO over him.

Irvin would slow down (as does happen with age), but there's no reason to believe he couldn't have assembled some better years, in five years he would have needed 606 yards per year to keep on pace yardage wise. His last 3 years (excluding 1999 when he was injured), he kept up above 900 yards, and could've continued for a little longer.

Moss is a better reciever than Harrison, his inconsistency is blamed on him for being on a shipwreck of a team in Oakland. When he is paired with a good QB, he can really show his stuff. And it's not his fault he's never won a SB, a reciever can't be blamed for his team's weakness at OL, or defense. If I had to fix this, I would take off Taylor and TO for the addition of Brown and Reed, but Brown would be lower (around 6th) and Reed around 7th.

Forfeited Turn

To continue, the list is not a joke, they do include guys like Warfield whose numbers aren't too flashy, but guys like Warfield and Taylor played in a different age, and played in different environments. ESPN did their best to assemble everything they could considering all factors.

We as fans think it is easy to assemble lists like this however, ESPN has to look at stats, the era, who they played for, and other factors (how tough was the division). I think ESPN did a good job on taking in all factors.

This list isn't a joke. It would've if Rice had been #2 or 3. Or if they had just used guys past the 80's, instead ESPN took the old the new, the guys that were part of defining the game of their era.

you are the real embarrassment esse

I only accepted this so I could post a comment...

ESPN needs a sports knowledge - check

Good luck

Report Offensive Comment

you don't know what Irving "would" have done...

Report Offensive Comment

you're right, but playing an extra 5 years helps your numbers, does it not?

Carter>Harrison

AP-No way.

Here's my list:

Rice
Moss
Hutson
Irvin
Brown
Carter
Largent
Reed
Harrison
Warfield

Report Offensive Comment

Scratch that

Move Harrison from #9 to ahead of Carter.

Agree with left for different reasons. Largent is a top 5 receiver. Harrison could be higher. T.O. should not be on the list

Report Offensive Comment

How is Harrison better than Carter? I don't see one aspect of his game that is superior

Report Offensive Comment

Harrison has better statistics than Carter, I'll go by stats except on certain things (ex. Better PG Nash or Kidd, I'll take Nash even though Kidd averages numbers close to a triple double)

Report Offensive Comment

Not having Hutson on that list SOMEWHERE is a mistake.

ESPN is getting to be about worthless...the world wide leader in sports? please....
