First off, you kinda put 12 players on your offense and defense. I'm not sure if you know this or not, but there are only 11 players on each unit, so thats a bit of a problem. Also, c'mon Lee Evans over Welker. Welker tied for the league lead in receptions and would have won Super Bowl MVP if the Pats had pulled it out. Welker had double the receptions Evans did, as well as more yards and touchdowns. Maroney had 95 less carries than Lynch, yet still averaged more yards per carry and finished with one less touchdown than Lynch.

Extra DLine and LBs depending on Scheme, same with extra WRs.

Offense:
Lynch had more carries, yards, and TDs. He has better escapability, is faster, and more physical than Maroney. That is why I consider him better.

Both Lee Evans and Coles are better WRs than Welker. They are each legitimate #1 WRs, Welker has never had to do it alone. Coles support includes Becht and Jerricho Cotchery. Evans gets help from Robert Royal, Josh Reed, and Peerless Price. Welker has Randy freaking Moss and the best TE in the division.
Welker does not face double teams regularly, and when he does it is against an OLB and Safety. Both Coles and Evans, without exception, drew the other teams #1 CB.
Secondly, Who is the QB on each of our lists?

Peters and Mangold deserve to be apart of this team, not the whole of NEs Line.

Defense:
Schobel, Robertson, Crowell, Harris, Allen, and Whitner all had significantly better seasons than your counterparts.

Poz is a better talent and more useful (every down) than Bruschi at this stage. Vrabel and Harrison do not play MLB and FS respectively.

NE is, right now, the best TEAM. However, they do not hoard all of the talent in the AFC East.

Welker isn't a top receiver, he is perfect as being the slot receiver in an offense. If you put Evans or Coles in Welkers spot they would not have had as big as a season as Welker did in 07. Regardless of your quarterback or the coverage your getting, to catch 112 balls in a season WITH Randy Moss catching 23 touchdowns and being the top receiver is a tremendous achievement.
Also, I wouldn't say that Schobel had a superior season to Jason Taylor. They were almost dead even in tackles and forced fumbles, but Taylor had nearly double the amount of sacks that Schobel did. Taylor had 11 while Schobel had only 6.5
I would also not say that Will Allen's season was significantly better than Terrence McGee. McGee had 8 more passes defended, had three more picks, and 16 more tackles.
I'm not saying that New England IS the AFC East, but they had more wins than the other three teams COMBINED

It is laughable to assume that Welker is more talented or skilled than either Coles or Evans. Welker is a wonderful support to any offense and clearly had the better season in 2007 and may very well have the better season in 2008, but the facts remain that Evans and Coles are capable of being the focal point of a passing attack with their route running, ability to stretch the field, and pure athleticism.

Welker is not in the same class of talent.

When picking Schobel I picked him over Seymour, not Taylor (who is also on MY list). Seymour had 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks to Schobels 57 and 6.5.

Will Allen is not as good as Terrence. I thought I could squeeze that one in there in order to not seem like a Homer, as well as spread the wealth between the 4 teams.

My list tops yours in these areas:
Welker is not as talented as either Coles or Evans.
The entire OL for NE is not the cream of the crop.
Schobel > Seymour
Robertson > Wilfork
Lynch > Maroney
Poz > Bruschi
Crowell > Barton
Whitner (statistically) > Rhodes
and
You misalligned Harrison and Vrabel.
Plus the best punt returner is overwhelmingly Parrish.

Good TD though.

Easy on the voting fellas, neither of us have defended the picks yet. I know Welker is going to catch me a lot of flack, but there is plenty of reasoning to say that he is not as good as either Coles or Evans.

April 3, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Actually I like your reasoning bandwagon. It took guts to pick against him, even if you did make a homer pick. You have to go with a #1 WR over a career 2nd or 3rd WR regardless of stats. That's saying alot from me, as I am a big stats fan.

Welker is a huge asset to The Patriots.
