Make a starting line up out of the final four teams remaining: 5 players and head coach

Pg: Ty Lawson
Sg: Mario Chalmers
Sf: Chris Douglas Roberts
Pf: Kevin Love
C: Tyler Hansbrough

G Lawson, UNC
G Collison, UCLA
F Arthur, Kansas
F Hansbrough, UNC
C Love, UCLA

Coach Roy Williams

I meant to put down Roy Williams as coach, I just forgot to include that, so sorry about that.
Now about your team coach, you chose two difference from my team, so lets go over those

You chose Collison at guard over Chalmers. Lets look at their stats from this season. Collison averaged 14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal per game. Chalmers averaged 12 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game. Its close, but Collison only has the advantage in points, by only a bucket a game, while Chalmers leads in boards, dimes, and steals.

Now lets look at what it I consider to be a HUGE mismatch, Douglas Roberts vs, Arthur. Arthur averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds, a block, and less than a steal and assist per game. Douglas Roberts averaged 17 points, 4 boards, an assist, a steal, and less than a block per game. Their number are also similar, but Douglas Roberts averages 5 more points per game, and his presence is huge for Memphis. They would not probably be here without him. I couldn't say the same thing for Kansas

You compare player for player however in this instance that doesn't work. You put together 5 great players, I was interested in putting together a team. You were comparing Collison to Chalmers and Arthur to Douglas-Roberts. My point guard is Lawson which any college coach would be comfortable with and that is where my assists come from. Collison is my shooting guard who's job it is to score. You have Douglas-Roberts out of position at small forward when he is by trade a guard. I am not concerned with assists and steals from Arthur but rather his points, rebounds and blocks. You also have Love as a power forward rather than center and he is a natural center. Hansbrough plays center for UNC only because they have no natural center. His game translates to the power forward position.

My combination of players will not only have balanced scoring at every position AND a lock defense to boot.. Lawson, Arthur, Collison and Psycho T are perfect for the transision game. Love, and Hansbrough in the paint, Collison and Lawson on the perimeter and Arthur working both will be impossible to stop in the half court.

You have 5 great players, I have a great team.

What proof do you have on any of your facts. Douglas Roberts is more than capable of playing small forward. I chose to leave Hansbrough at center because he has had a monster year in the paint, and is the front runner for player of the year. Love would be better at power forward because unlike Psycho T, Love can shoot well from the outside. You say you don't care about steals yet you claim your team would have a lock down defense. Chalmers is a much better defender than Arthur, they block the same amount of shots, yet Chalmers averages double the amount of steals Arthur does. Tyler Hansbrough would not be very good in a transition offense. I never see Hansbrough dribble or make a difficult assist, so I very much doubt he would be better in transition than Love. You even said it yourself, I have 5 great players, which by default would make my team great

What exactly did I say that requires defense? I made no suppositons while you make several as well as making poor comparisons.

Like I said, Douglas Roberts IS a guard. You contend "he can play forward just fine." Maybe, but I state fact while you make the assumption.

Quote:
"Tyler Hansbrough would not be very good in a transition offense"

What are you talking about? Transition offense is the cornerstone of everything UNC does and Tyler is their center piece.
Hansbrough runs the floor well and is a big part of UNC's transition game. Love is taller and bigger than Tyler and a better post defender. These are accurate statements and Love IS a natural center.

Again you compared the defense of 6'1" guard Chalmers to 6'9" forward Arthur. That is Apples and Oranges! Chalmers may be a better perimeter defender than Arthur but NOT in the paint against 6'7"- 6'9" Forwards.

"You even said it yourself, I have 5 great players, which by default would make my team great"

This statement flies in the face of everything team sports has to teach us.
Sports history is full of great teams beating a bunch of great players. I cite Davidson as a great recent example.

MOH, you gotta have Douglas Roberts on your list.

I'm leaning left but i'll wait for arguments

How do both of you not have Rose on your team? Easily better than Lawson.

April 4, 2008  03:04 PM ET

"cause LAWSON is A CAROLINA GUY

so he is BETTER by Default

April 4, 2008  04:32 PM ET

No love for Russell Westbrook?

April 4, 2008  05:10 PM ET

Collison is a great man to catch the outlet pass from Love. I'm not sure if Chalmers could do the same. But how do you not have CDR? He has been a monster.

Where is Derrick Rose he deserves to be on the team

April 5, 2008  10:59 PM ET

There are several that deserve to be on such a team bt there are only 5 spots. If he has said, All Final Four Best players, it would have opened it up to other choices however, if you are trying to create a team, then there are only two guard spots, 2 forwards and a center, The college game is a guard dominated game so many of the star players are guards however we could only choose two or three.

G- Derrick Rose
G- Brandon Rush
G/F- Douglas-Roberts
F- Hansborough
F/C- Love

No 6th man?? there is always a 6th man!!

April 6, 2008  05:05 PM ET

hansbrough gets steals and dribbles coast to coast very well for someone his size. he only does it in transition (gives it to a guard every other time), but i can think of many times this season when he has gone the length of the floor for a dunk or assist. your statement that tyler would not be very good in transition offense is just dumb....

April 6, 2008  06:37 PM ET

Easy vote to the right. If people were to read the arguments, it would be nowhere near this close. Coach's second argument was perfect as he pointed out all the flaws in your argument, NYGiants.

"Tyler Hansbrough would not be very good in a transition offense" -NYGiants

I cracked up laughing when I read that.

April 6, 2008  07:35 PM ET

Probably not as much as I was cracking up at Kansas kicking North Carolinas **** last night

April 6, 2008  10:20 PM ET

They indeed get there buts kicked last night, it happens to the best of teams. You can't come out of the3 gate that flat and expect to win. With that said, they got their butts kicked in the final four, there are 124 other teams in the country that would take that!
