AL

Indians-

Strong core, good middle of the lineup with Victor Martinez,Pronk(Hafner)Grady Sizemore, and others. This is a great team that was one game away from the World Series, but lost to the team that won it.C.C. Sabathia leads a strong staff, and Fausto Carmona has already shown he is a great pitcher.

NL

Dodgers-

They have a great pitching staff, led by Brad Penny, they were in contention all year, and made strides in improving their ball club.Hiring Joe Torre automattically a contender.Andrew Jones is a major upgrade in centerfield.

AL-Yankees

I'm saying that the Indians are going to win their division over the Tigers, and the Yankees are going to be able to get that Wildcard spot. They have a good team, a good pitching core, and a good hitting core. They have a lot of good players. Chein Ming-Wang, Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, Mike Mussina, Andy Pettite. Their hitting is good too. A-Rod, Jeter, Cano, Melky, Matsui, Posada. They have a good team, and they will win the wild card.

NL-Padres

The Padres have a great pitching staff. They have Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Greg Maddux, Randy Wolf, Justin Germano. They have a good bullpen too. Heath Bell, Trevor Hoffman, Cla Meridith, and Joe Thatcher. They have a good hitting staff too. Jim Edmonds, Adrian Gonzalez, Tadhito Iguchi, Khali Greene, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Scott Hairston, Brian Giles, Josh Bard. They have a good team, and they will beat out the Dodgers for the wildcard spot.

Phil Hughes really hasn't proved that much yet.At least Carmona has had one complete season of completely excellent pitching.Ian Kennedy hasn't pitched barely any for the Yankees.Melky good hitter, lol.I actually think that some people just like him for his hustle and his name. The Moose?Mike Mussina? He pitched downright awful last year, the steinbrenners most likely won't put up with him for long. And it being Girardi's first year in the bronx(along with the pressure that comes with the job)he just isn't set up for success.

The only thing I doubt is the Padres hitting.Jim Edmonds?People are way overrating this aquisition,he is getting older and has barely been able to hit the ball the last two years.Tadihito Tuguchi isn't that great either(like .260 with maybe 40 rbi's)Khali Greene, has very little power along with his not so great average.Kouzmanoff, you've got to be kidding me,you're just nameing off people now aren't you.Scott Hairston has had abysmal statistics.Giles is aging. And Bard so what?

:)

Let me explain some things to you. I think the Indians are better. I think that they are better than the Tigers. I have the Indians winning the AL Central. the Tigers don't have a bullpen. Anyway, I have the Yankees winning the wild card because the Indians are winning the AL Central.

Anyway, the Yankees have a good team, and they will show things this year. They will make it to the playoffs. They have a good team, and they will win a lot of games. They will come close to the Red Sox, but then go on a cold streak, and end up winning the Wild Card.

Mike Mussina can pull it together this year. The Yankees will do well, and give him run support when he is pitching.

Jim Edmonds can field well, and he can hit. Not great, but he can still hit.

Brian Giles still has some pop left in his bat. Bard can hit okay for his position. Kouzmanoff is a good hitter.

Kevin Kouzmanoff's projections:
216 hits
.320 BA
27 HR
81 RBi
108 runs

That is what is projected. he is a good player, and you are saying it like he is a horirble player. He isn't.

Tadhito iguchi is a good player. He still has pop in his bat.

The Padres have better ptiching then the Dodgers.

The Indians aren't better,The Tigers, though not having the best pitching are still the most potent hitting team in baseball. The Indians have their fair share of bullpen woes as well.

The Yankees believe it or not,are in a slight rebuilding year, this will be a year to see how their prospects perform as players like Damon,Mussina,Pettite, and others age.

Mike Mussina had a 5.15 ERA last year and I'll leave it at that.

If baseball was based on projections Kosuke Fukudome would hit .450 with 60 Hr's.Not so likely.Koumanoff was a .275 hitter last year with a .329 OBP.Not quite the projected numbers. All palyers get hot, just because he has had success doesn't mean he will hit like he has.He isn't a horrible player,he just doesn't provide the punch the weak Padre lineup needs.

Yes the Padres have better hitters than the dodgers, but then again, the Dodgers have much better hitters than the Padres

The Indians actually have a bullpen. They have a good bullpen that is better than the Tigers. They will win the AL Central over the Tigers. The Tigers have a horrible pitching staff. Other than Verlander and Bonderman they really don't have any good players.

The Indians have a better pitching rotation than the Tigers. That is why they will win the AL Central.

The Yankees have a better pitching staff than the Tigers. Plus, they are a good team, with good players. They have a good hitting team, they have a good pitching team too. They will win the AL Wildcard this year.

The Padres are better than the Dodgers. They have better pitching, and that is the reason why they will do better than the Dodgers, and win the Wild Card. They also have a good hitting club, but they can't hit as well because they play at PETCO park.

The Padres had the same hitting squad, minus Edmonds and Iguchi, and they still made a hell of a run to the playoffs. The reason they missed the playoffs is becase of the game against the Rockies where the ump made a bad call.

You last two lines, what are you saying? You are saying the Padres have better hitting, but the Dodgers have much better...

Nice mention of Wolf and Germano dyhard. I think they will have huge years this year.

April 5, 2008  10:12 PM ET

I'm going to wait though. I can think of a really good argument for both teams.

April 5, 2008  10:20 PM ET

Thank you Jenkster. I know that they will help the Padres this season.

dyhard you love your Padres.

Anyways I dont see it. I see the D-Backs getting WC, and the Angels in the AL.

April 6, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Isn't it funny that a couple of years ago the NL West was the worst division in baseball and now 4 of their 5 teams are probably going over .500.

I was thinking about the Rockies, but then I thought about the pitching, and the Padres have better pitching. I'd have to go with the Padres over the Rockies.

Jenkster is overrated | 04/06/08, 10:01 AM

A lot of young talent has come into that division, and now that is one of the closest divisions in baseball.
