Stephen Curry should have made AP 1st Team All-America.

As some of you probably already know, everyone's new favorite player, Stephen Curry, has been named to the Associated Press 2nd Team All-America.

My opinion is that he deserved to make the first team. His stats were phenomenal: 25 points per game, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 44% from deep, 90% from the line, and 2 steals.

Some would argue that he plays in a weak conference. Yes, he does. I'm not disagreeing with you. BUT his team played a rigorous non-conference schedule and Top 25 teams were a plenty for Davidson this season. Here are some of his stats against those elite teams...

vs. #1 North Carolina: 24 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl
vs. #9 Duke: 20 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl
vs. #2 UCLA: 15 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl
vs. #8 Georgetown: 30 pts, 3 reb, 5 ast, 3 stl
vs. #5 Wisconsin: 33 pts, 3 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl
vs. #4 Kansas: 25 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl

I saved you some time and did the math. Against top ten opponents this season, Curry has averaged 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game. Now someone explain to me how that isn't deserving of first team.

Who does he replace? Chris Douglas-Roberts. Sorry, but his season wasn't that good. More to come...

G.O.A.T, I have to disagree w/ you strongly here. As YOU said, Curry is "everyone's new favorite player". Who was keeping tabs on him and Davidson in their weak conference? Curry has the advantage in stats over D-Roberts, and I can't say the C-USA is not weak, but Memphis is a better team, playing for the National Title, and only lost 1 game this season. A better player can have a slight disadvantage in stats, but can make up for that by being a contributor on a team that is heading to the National Title!

"It's an honor. I've put a lot of work in, over the summers, during the season and staying after practice just trying to improve. I feel now that I'm finally getting the recognition I deserve," said {D-Roberts} "But I still say when people look at that All-American list, it's a motivation because I'm the one that people know the least about."- D-Roberts

He is right, he isn't really well known. And neither was Curry. But this player led his team into the National Title, when Memphis was considered the weakest #1 seed. Davidson was just rolling a couple of upsets, while Memphis had a lot to prove and faced some tough competition and a lot of doubters to get where they are.

It's a shame if Memphis doesn't get farther and have a better record than little Davidson. Coach Cal runs an elite program that gets any recruit it wants. Davidson gets just about zero top recruits.

However, Davidson, led by Curry, made it just as far as Texas (who has a 1st-teamer in DJ Augustin). Going by what you said about having a good team, the 1st Team All-America might as well be the best players from the Final Four teams.

As some of you know, one of my pet peeves is everyone saying Davidson is a one-man show. Richards and Lovedale does a great deal for that team that made the Elite Eight.

CDR led his team in points and tied for the lead in steals. He also headed his team in FT% (that shouldn't even count as an accomplishment on Memphis; he shot 71%) and 3P% (which wasn't so good as Curry's).

Steph led his team in points, steals (averaged almost 1 more spg), FT% (90%), and 3P%.

Stephen Curry is a much

There are always guys who "deserve" to be there that aren't. I agree wholeheartedly that Curry is exceptional, and given Davidson's run in the tourney and Curry's resulting notoriety, GOAT will likely take this TD easily.
But if Davidson was not on the tip of everyone's tongue, I don't think Curry's absence would be viewed as such a snub.

I could not agree more ^. It is what I pointed out before. But think if Curry did not make it as far as DJ Augustin G.O.A.T? You said yourself

"However, Davidson, led by Curry, made it just as far as Texas (who has a 1st-teamer in DJ Augustin). Going by what you said about having a good team, the 1st Team All-America might as well be the best players from the Final Four teams"

All I am saying G.O.A.T, is out of sight out of mind. Did you watch either of these players (honestly) much outside of the tourney? And there is no such thing as a one man show without a decent supporting cast to win a championship. Without Rose, Curry would score more, but would he be leading his team to the championship? If CDR gets named player of the game tonight, tell me that put together with his season isn't better than Curry?

I don't care what would have happened if Davidson didn't make it that far. The fact of the matter is they did. Curry was their star player and, along with Richards, their leader both on and off the court.

I'll be honest. I watched about 10 or 12 Memphis regular season games and about 2 or 3 Davidson regular season games.

I knew how good Curry was last year. I saw him play those games against Duke and North Carolina this year. He was for real.

What separated Curry from CDR? It may have been Curry's ZERO games with less than 10 points compared to CDR, who had 7 games like that. You know what that tells me? Curry had a much more CONSISTANT year than Douglas-Roberts.

Chris had a season high of 33 points. Steph eclipsed that mark on seven different occasions. Curry had a seven game streak of 20+ point games. CDR had only a four game streak of 20+ point games.

Bottom Line: Stephen Curry has had the better season. He's averaged a ridiculous amount of points, dominated teams like no one else, and took over the NCAA Tournament like not seen in recent years. He should have made the first team. Chris Douglas-Roberts did not deserve it.

G.O.A.T,

While I am an avid college basketball fan, I lack the knowledge to dispute you (Crucible quote). Anyway....

Bottom Line: CDR is going to play for a National Championship and has a player like Rose to take some of his stats. Curry is a (YES I'M SAYING IT) A ONE MAN SHOW!!! How about taking his team to the championship? Again if CDR wins the player of the game award tonight, then that will prove my argument. Great to throwdown with you G.O.A.T!

Good luck, Anthony. This should be a good throwdown. I may be a little rusty though. haha

April 6, 2008  06:46 PM ET

Same here! I have been in major retirement. I'm just flexing a little!

April 6, 2008  06:57 PM ET

G.O.A.T. reading this makes you sound pissed off, haha.

DetroitFan, your right. He does sound pissed off. lol

*Lester Hudson, the one from UT Martin, the guy who had the quadruple double, for those who forgot.

Danbash | 04/06/08, 07:18 PM

who? haha.

April 6, 2008  07:21 PM ET

Sorry, but CDR hasn't led that team the championship all by himself, it has really been a team effort for them. Chris Douglas-Roberts unknown? I think that a lot of people knew who he was. I'm sure there were plenty of people who hadn't even heard of Curry before the tourney.

April 6, 2008  07:23 PM ET

hey i'm going based on his own quote!

April 6, 2008  07:31 PM ET

I'll either argue later tonight or tomorrow morning. I was expecting something different from your first argument and planned ahead. However, the approach you took will take some more time.

April 6, 2008  07:36 PM ET

no problem! i didn't know what to expect. apparently we still have a stern/tough crowd for throwdowns which is wonderful!!!

April 6, 2008  07:49 PM ET

Wait Danbash, are you saying that Lester Hudson was facing just as quality of teams as Curry was? If so, that's ridiculous. Mississippi State, Vandy, and UNLV in no way compare with the six top 10 teams Davidson has played this season.
