1. Duke vs. North Carolina
2. Kentucky vs. Louisville
3. Cincinnati vs. Xavier (the schools are 10 minutes apart, how is it NOT one of the all-time best rivalries?)

This is so stupid. Anyway, I'll make my case for Cincy and Xavier...
First, the schools are 10 minutes apart. There is hate. A LOT OF IT. And the schools despise each other.
The city is one of the most passionate about its sports. And there's no exception for Cincinatti vs. Xavier.
They didn't begin playing every year until 1946. In the beginning, Cincinatti dominated, as they won 34 of the first 46 matchups. But that has all changed now.
In 1986 the local media called it the "Crosstown Shootout". And, boy, was it a shootout! The event was a big time thing. Let's here what some associated with the rivalry had to say:
"...I can't imagine one being more intense."-Skip Prosser, former Xavier coach.
One great moment? In 1996, the Cincinatti Bearcats were the number one ranked team in the country and a national title favorite. But come the Xavier game, they're done. Xavier wins, 71-69, led by Lenny Brown and his incredible shot at the buzzer.
Cincinatti-Xavier is one rivalry that not many people know about. But there's only very, very few that are more intense.

Report Offensive CommentThere are some big rivalries that aren't on the board. Why only 3. I know, only 1 and everyone agrees, Maybe exclude the obvious. UCLA has no rivalries? Indiana - Purdue?? Mich-OSU? I'm sure there are a lot. I am sure Cinn-X is not in the top 3.

Report Offensive CommentMichigan-OSU?
Both basketball programs are not known for very much. I think of that rivalry as football.
