Okay.......................Not sure if you mean the best of all-time or the best right now, so I will just start by naming some names.
Let's see, there is my personal favorite, and very conceivably the greatest radio commentator of all time, Myron Cope.
Pat Summerall-Madden's long time partner who easily overshadowed(figuratively of course) the entire time. Finished his career the best way possible, announcing the Super Bowl.
Like Goodell says below, Harry Caray.
Al Michaels-has done MNF, now SNF for years, did Olympics when they were on ABC. Announced one of the most recognizable moments, possibly the greatest highlight in sports history, in the 1980 Miracle on Ice.
Howard Cosell-many people see him as the greatest ever. Sure, he made some racist comments, but he has probably the most recognized voice nationwide of all time.

Okay Dicky V may not be the greatest commentator. But a pretty good one is Micheal Kay for the New York Yankees.

You say that Dick Vitale is the best announcer. Why does it matter if Michael Kay is pretty good? And who cares if he mixes Giambi with Bambino? Have you ever heard of any of the announcers I presented in my first argument? Could John Madden jump more than two inches in his prime?
Anyway, how does any of the information show that Vitale is the best announcer ever? He has a terrible voice. He whines WAY too much. He wants to make love to Coach K, and probably Jay Bilas, too. And when he screams BABY!, I have to shut off the game for a while.
On a side note, I bet there are tons of things that will make LW go on killing sprees.

Report Offensive CommentBut god i hate Dick Vitale. There are very few things in the world that would make me consider a massive killing spree and Dick Vitale's voice is one of them. It's actually the main reason I avoid college basketball coverage.

Report Offensive CommentJoe Buck is one of the cheesiest announcers ever. I have never heard one man make the most mundane play into a more melodramatic suckfest than Joe Buck. Or how many more announcers find ways to tie in Fox shows into their commentary? I don't care if it's contractual or whatever, it's the most annoying thing when I'm trying to watch a playoff game and I get told that Manny Ramirez's number reminds him that Jack Bauer and 24 will be back with all new shows following the world series, right here on fox.
