First name 'em. Leave the arguements for the 2nd and 3rd.

They have to be starting somewhere. Make sure you also include there age. And can you try to make this a little fun and replace more people than just 1 or 2.

SP- John Smoltz-ATL- 40
CL- Trevor Hoffman-SD-40

C- Jorge Posada-NYY-36
1B- Scott Hatteberg-CIN-38
2B- Jeff Kent-LAD-40
3B- Chipper Jones-ATL-35
SS- Omar Vizquel-SF-40

LF- Manny Ramirez-BOS-35
CF- Jim Edmonds-SD-37
RF- Ken Griffey Jr.-CIN-38

Differences:

CL- Billy Wagner-NYM-36
1B- Carlos Delgado-NYM-35
OF- Raul Ibanez-SEA-35 (over Edmonds)-I'm not sure if I can use him. He's LF, but I'll put him in CF. I'll give up a bit of defense. But if I can't use him, then Wagner and Delgado are the only differences I have.

There are no rules stating there must be more than 2 differences. I know, its more fun, but I really couldn't find that many holes in you lineup.

I never said you had to I just said try to. I just always think these throwdowns are so boring when they decide to only swap out 1 or 2 players.

And if the outfielders are just outfielders and not their actual position I wouldn't have chosen Edmonds so I guess were going to have to scrap that position.

So let's just compare Hoffman VS Wagner.

The Hof's stats- 2007- 2.98 ERA, 42 Saves, 57.1 innings
Billy's stats- 2007- 2.63 ERA, 34 Saves, 68.1 innings

Even though the Hof had a tad higher ERA, he had 8 more saves in about 11 less innings. So Hoffman is finding a way to be more effecient at a older age.

Now let's compare Carlos Delgado's 2007 stats to my man Hatteberg's:

S. Hatteberg- .310 avg, 10 hrs, 47 rbis, .394 obp
C. Delgado- .258 avg, 24 hrs, 87 rbis, .333 obp

The reason Delgado has more RBIs is only because his location in the mets lineup, which would be the middle. Hatteberg bats further down so his numbers aren't as juiced up. But Scott hits for a far superior AVG and his OBP is a little more than 60 points higher. You've got to remember that the HR is not everything in baseball.

Ok, no Raul is fine. I guessed that, but it doesn't hurt to try, does it?

Hoff vs. Wagner

Hoffman-2.98 ERA, 42 SV, 44 Ks, 15 BB, 57.1 IP
Wagner-2.63 ERA, 34 SV, 80 Ks, 22 BB, 68.1 IP

The reason why Wagner pitched more innings, but got less saves, is because not every one of his wins was a save situation. The Mets' offense is so good, that in blowouts, he's just put in so he can get some more work. The Pads, on the other hand, usually score just enough runs to win, because of an atrocious offense. So almost every time Hoffman pitches, he's in a save situation.

If Wagner was in his place, he would do better, because he gives up less runs when he is pitching, which would cause for more saves. Hoff's age is also a negative factor. He needs more rest than younger players. There have been rumors of him losing the closer job.\

Delgado vs. Hatteberg

So Hatteberg has a good average, but he was only involved in (R or RBI) 97 runs. So most of his hits are useless. Delgado, on the other hand, was involved in 158 runs, so his hits are more productive. And Hatteberg plays in a hitter's paradise, Great American Ballpark, which juices up his numbers too. And I would expect he should drive in more runs in a great offensive team including Brandon Phillips, Adam Dunn, Edwin Encarnacion, etc.

No of course it doesn't hurt. Looking back I think we should have just done neutral outfielders.

Just like you said about Hoffman, the Pads barely score enough runs to win. And that's exactly why he is better, because he wins close games. Most of his save situations were 1-2 run games and yet he still found a way to hold on and win them. And rumors don't matter, only stats do. And Trevor puts up better stats, plan and simple.

The reason Hatteberg hit so far down in the lineup is because of the sluggers he has on his team, one of which just happens to be a HOFer. (Dunn and Griffey). In New York, Hatteberg would probably hit more in the middle, just like Delgado. Except he would get more runs in because of his more hits. You can knock a guy down because he isn't the best hitter on a team packed with sluggers.

"Most of his save situations were 1-2 run games and yet he still found a way to hold on and win them."

Well, duh. The maximum lead in save situation is 3 runs. That's why its called a save. If Wagner comes in to pitch with the Mets up 10-3, and Wagner pitches a shutout 9th, it isn't a save. All of Wagner's save situations were mostly 1-2 run games too.

How did Hoffput up better stats? Wagner beat him in ERA, SO, IP, and K/BB. Saves is not the only important stat for a closer. A good closer may not get enough save opportunities, so despite his talent, he can't use it often.

You can't say for certain what Hatteberg would no in NY. Again, stadiums matter, and Hatteberg greatly benefits from Great American Ballpark. Would he do as well in Shea? Hatteberg is pretty much useless to his team, by what you're saying. He doesn't need to drive runs in, because of who bats ahead of him, AND he doesn't need to score runs, because of who bats behind him. And he had only 38 extra base hits. A single won't drive in runs every time. People batting in the middle of the order need to have power, which Hatteberg does not.

Dude this is too easy

K, I'll do my best to find some differences.

Note to all: RAUL IBANEZ is not part of my team, if you only read the first arguments. Elway said he wants based on defensive positions, so Raul would not count there. Just wanted to clarify to make it fair, if anyone believed Raul was on my team.

This was such a lame throwdown. I only say this because only 4 people voted. Sooooo boring....
