Given the quantity of huge trades this season, including players with big names and their impact on their new teams, there are many ways you could go with this.
The Cavs got Wally and Wallace, Spurs got Thomas, Hornets got Bonzi, Kidd goes back to Dallas, Bibby moves to Atlanta and Shaq/ Marion trade, just to name a few.
But, in my opinion, the Lakers got the best trade of the year, for three reasons:
a) It was a steal, literally. They not only were able to dump a huge dissapointment in Kwame and some other small collaterals. While in return they got a former ROY and a 7 '0 All-Star. They gave up so little for so much in return.
b) 18.9 pts, 8.4 rbs, 3.2 ast. is reason enough. Gasol has a great shooter's touch both on FT(80%) and FG (53%). He provides size the Lakers needed, and when Bynum comes back, they will be a force. He fit it nicely with Jackson's triangle offense, providing support to Odom and Kobe and inside prescence as well.
c) Made Kobe happy. At the beginning of the season his future looked bleak in L.A. Not anymore, now the Lakers team are revived and a are a contender again.

I thought that the Biggest NBA Trade this year had to be the Phoenix Suns getting Shaquille O'Neal from the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.
Many people thought that Shaq was too old and had lost his old form . . .
. . . well, Shaq proved them wrong boosting his rebounds per game average up to 9.0 in Phoenix and gave the Suns a 6th seed in the Western playoffs.
I remember that the Los Angeles Lakers were very good even before they revieved Pau Gasol so I don't think he improved an already great team as much as Shaq did.
Shaq came to a youg team and gave them a 7-footer, a rebounder, a veteran expirience, and a player who has won the NBA Finals before.
Phoenix usually always does good in the season and then loses to somebody in the playoffs so Shaq will definitly help them more than Gasol will help LA.

Report Offensive CommentI think Atlanta getting Bibby will prove to be the best in the long run.

Report Offensive CommentLakers needed an inside threat, Shaq slows down the Suns, making the fast break less effective.

Report Offensive CommentThe Lakers trade was the best. Why? Because the Lakers set off a tidal wave that was felt throughout the West. It sent Phoenix after Shaq. It sent the Spurs after Kurt Thomas. It sent the Warriors after Webber. It sent the Mavericks after Kidd. Also, a trade that kind of went under the radar was Utah getting Korver. It was before the Gasol, so it was kind of overshadowed by the Laker trade, but a good trade either way. The strange thing about that trade is that BOTH teams seemed to get a crap-load better after the deal.
