The end of the Jail Blazer era!!!

Well, NBA team Dr's confirmed that Miles micro from 2005 is career ending, and Portland GM Kevin Pritchard wasted little time waiving him to clear $18 million off the cap in the next two years.

DMiles was the last of the Jail Blazers bad apples (in the same legendary company of Ruben Patterson, Bonzi Wells, Rasheed Wallace, Damon Stoudamire, Quintel Woods, Zach Randolph, etc...).

I think most of us know DMiles potential for greatness, but it is obviously NOT fulfilled neither with the Clippers, Cavs, nor Blazers.

So, did DMiles just hit the worst luck jackpot?

Or is this karma for his immaturity and lack of appreciation of the position he was in?

Having suffered too many years of the Jail Blazers tag, I say this is karma for Miles for not respecting the privilege he had when he was given a $48 million contract he showed little interest in fulfilling.

Disagree? TD!

Karma? No....

It was an injury...unfortunate injury to say the least...

Before his he got hurt he was averaging 18.2 ppg, bad attitude yes...performance lagging? not in the least bit...

A manager wanting to get 18 million dollars off the cap as quick as possible is not one who hates teh man...he is one looking for an extra 18 million dollars....ANY manager that is told that a player suffered a career ending injury would be looking as soon as possible to waive the player from the roster to get that money...

Karma.....unless your one to believe in Hindu and Buddhist philosophies...karma has little to do with this injury...he was a decent player getting better by each season he played....from 8 ppg working its way up to 12 14 and then 18....better with age...

Look, he obviously played well enough to have owner Paul Allen drooling all over him and gave him $48 million over six years. Allen even went so far as to block at least one trade scenario for Miles a couple of years back.

No doubt this is bad luck, but I don't wish him ill even though he was a punk.

But consider his acts over the years as a Blazer:

He cursed out Mo Cheeks in front of the team right before Cheeks was fired.

He asked to be traded because Portland was not competitive, even though he was promoted to be team captain.

After not playing the minutes he wanted in a game, he changed out of his uniform at half time, because he said Nate McMillen wasnt going to play him anyway.

In all fairness, he kept his nose relatively clean in terms of police bulletin boards.

But...I say this is karma because he is the first player to go from playing, to micro, to retiring. At the age of 26!

Guys like Allen Houston, Jamal Mashburn, Penny Hardway, Chris Webber, etc...at least played a bit before calling it done.

Guys like Kenyon Martin, Amare Stoudemire, and his former partner in crime Zach Randolph...they have all made full recoveries.

It's karma!

Would you play for a team that wasn't trying their best to be a contender for an NBA title? didn't think so...id ask to get traded too if that was the case...and im sure any NBA player who knows his worth would do the same thing

Obviously DMiles wasn't the only one who had a problem with Mo cheeks, seeing he cursed him out and the front office also wanted him out of the coaching position...he just had the balls to tell him how he felt about him...All the front office had to do was fire him

Your understanding of his injury is a little off....the doctor said he can't play anymore...and that gives a team a right to waive him....BUT if another team picks him up and he plays more than 10 games then his contract will get put on the blazers tab....so he isn't retired yet...he'll wait and see if another team signs him

Yes players have returned from the surgery...but there are some that never made it back after it as well

Allan Houston
Karl Malone
Terrell Brandon
Jamal Mashburn...all never made it back

so saying he wont play again at 26 isn't karma is just a bad cartilage tear...if it was FOR SURE career ending injury...that would be karma...but another team can pick him up...

Yes, I would stick it out if I have a contract to fulfill. It???s called responsibilities. You think we all love our jobs?

So it's okay for captains to jump ship? Think about the meaning of that title.

Mo's problem was being too player friendly, but if you don't think he is class, you haven???t paid attention. The team fired Mo once Miles cursed him out in front of the team...there was no turning back.

I am aware of the 10 game rules. It could happen, but he hasn???t played in 2 years. You think teams still see ???potential??? in him? As far as his attitude, I think it's well documented.

All players get injured, but Miles NEVER even played one minute after surgery at age 26 before he is classified as ???career ending??? status.

The names you listed, all either played some games or attempted comebacks. Malone? I doubt he retired due to injury.

This is not about whether Miles play again or not. This is not about the $18 mil. This is about completing a reputation makeover as much as else, and Miles was the last to carry the Jail Blazer tag. GM Kevin Prichard did not even talk to Miles when he was waived.

Is that bad luck?

Or is that bad karma?

KARMA should have knocked these players out as well:

Artest- Assault and Battery
Iverson- Assault and Battery
Mello- Marijuana Possession
Arenas- Unlawful Possession of Firearm
Camby- Marijuana Possession
Cassell- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
Kidd- Domestic Abuse
Pippen- Battery of a women
Stephen Jackson -Assault and Battery
Kobe Bryant -Sexual Assault

Looks like they all fair off pretty well...and those guys have had drug possesion charges, assult charges, sexual assult charges, battery...yet all Miles did (in your opinion) was slacked at playing and had a bad attitude...if karma was teh deciding factor then the list of player above this, should be out and not playing anymore...based on your reasoning...

Where did i ever say MOE didnt have class??? On top of it, him getting fired had NOTHING to do with Miles cursing him out...And even if miles cursed himout what does that prove? Karma got back at him for doing that? If you dont like something you handle it...not sit there and keep your mouth shut about it...dont wait for the situation to cool and pull someone off to the side...settle it right then and there

Karma has nothing to do with it. Money does! A lot of money.
Steveo stated it well.-------------H---------<> extra point

bad luck? he's a **** millionaire for doing what most of us do AFTER work.

April 15, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Miles has been a cancer to every team he's been on and I'm not surprised that he's not going to attempt a comeback. I don't wish him ill by any means, but I think at the very least you should put forth some effort to rehab and really see it through before stating that it's career ending.

Many thought that Grant Hill was done; clearly, it seems as though Hill's been rejuvenated and just getting started. THAT is the kind of work, dedication, and effort I'm talking about. Sure, many will blast him for not playing in ORL, but he did try hard to do his best to honor the franchise and not steal their money. His contract finally expired and he went elsewhere, but Hill NEVER gave up completely and always tried hard to make it right. If Miles were to do the same, I'd say watch out... too bad that's not the case.

I think Miles immaturity allowed him to become a product of his environment. He was one of the people to mentor LeBron while he was in Cleveland. He got to Portland and the rest is history. Walk in poo, and your shoes are going to smell. I agree with Bill. He should make an effort to rehab and get back if possible. I think how he handles this will speak volumes about his character. He came into the league out of High School. Perhaps college wouldn't be a bad idea instead of taking the money he has coming and **** it away.
I don't however know whether I would call what's happened, Karma.

April 15, 2008  03:01 PM ET

That dude is like sooo totally lame. I cant believe any team would want him and i laughed when portland took him from the curb. His game is always the same, just tries to dunk the ball. You can see hes never really worked it in off season cuz he never showed new skillz each year like players who work it do. Portland was very smart to let him go and im sure another dumb team will take him. Just like his twin Kwame Brown.

April 15, 2008  04:17 PM ET

I still wish that D. Miles went to St. John's like he was supposed to before entering the draft. Anyway, his waiving is the end of the Jailblazer Era because he was the last player from it.

Vote to Odenator.

I'm going to have to vote to the left on this one.

April 15, 2008  09:25 PM ET

if this was KARMA, then half the NBA would be injured due tot here off the court actinos with drug charges, weapons charges assults sexual assults battery....

April 15, 2008  09:47 PM ET

I don't know abut Karma, but it certainly is a good thing to see him go. He was not a good person in Portland. He also will almost certianly not play again. There is no more cartilage to repair in the knee. It's bone on bone. No doctor in his or her right mind would clear him to play.

April 15, 2008  09:50 PM ET

Oh, and his money coming off the books will be great. The Blazers will be big players in the free agent market over the next three offseasons.

April 15, 2008  10:40 PM ET

farve fan, that was teh purpose of the TD...KARMA...not weather or not he is a good player or was a good player...

April 16, 2008  12:34 AM ET

Blazer is clean finally??? yet players get injury, but DM didn't give any effort to get back after the injury, plus his attitude with the team and the coach he should go.
I vote left <-----------------------------

Opps...strike the last comment from an eager fan =)

April 16, 2008  02:39 AM ET

An NBA potential star player with a bad attitude who didn't live up to his potential, fought with the coach, wanted to be traded, etc. Sounds like... and NBA player.

So what's your point?
