O.K. then, Carlos Pena had 46 HR last season, and 121 RBI. Could of had more, but he plays for the lowly Rays. It is apparent that you probably wanted Manny, but you didn't have a Ray on your team yet. Manny Ramirez has 493 HR and counting, an obvious choice for LF. Jason Varitek as one advantage, he actually plays catcher as of 4/17/08. He also has lead his Red Sox to two World Series crowns, and is regarded as a great catcher, just like Jorge though. Brian Roberts is more of a steal threat than Pedroia, which, little think about, can change the momentum of a game greatly. That said, you can't hide from his 50 SB season last year. Brian Roberts also has the experience factor.

Posada is a better catcher than Varitek. Varitek is the ehart and soul of the Red Sox but as far as sheer stats go Posada's numbers are much better. He is more of a power threat, is a much better defensive catcher than Varitek and has more all star selections the Red Sox captain.
Obvioulsy i wanted Manny but i needed a ray.
Kevin Youkilis is above Pena because of his contact rating. Teh guy never strikes out and can be a leadoff hitter on most times despite his speed. He always has a high average and is a tremendous fielder. Much better fielder than Pena.
Finally to Pedroia. Dustin Pedroia is the clear choice at second base. I would have evn possibly chosen Cano over the likes of Roberts but u were prolly trying to sneak in an Oriole. Anywyas, Pedroia has perhaps the highest copntact rating out of anybody in the lague. He had the lowest strikeout ratio in the league last year and constantly makes gold glove plays at second base. He is the defending rookie of the year and has serious potential to be not only a perrenial gold glover in his career bgut a silver slugger as well. who needs speed with that combination?

Contact rating? 46 HR and 138 hits isn't good contact? Youk got 16 HR and 152 hits last season. A little better contact, but power, no. Pena has been great with the glove this year.
Are we argueing B-Rob vs. Pedroia, or Pedroia vs. MLB second baseman? Brian Roberts makes a lot of great plays with the gloves too, you forgot to mention how good Brian Roberts is. Were talking about now and the past, not the far future. So I don't know what to say about the gold gloves and silver sluggers.

Report Offensive CommentPena Ks far too much and cannot hit for a decent average. He had a career year last year and who knows if he can repeat. I will take a top 3 defensive first baseman who can be a .300 hitter and have average power numbers than a guy who is one of the WORST fielding first basemen, whiffs more than he hits, and could have an average below .250 plus this is the same guy who has a lot of question marks regarding his last season a fluke or not.
