2008 Cy Young Predictions AL+NL List 1st

NL= Jake Peavy
AL= Josh Beckett

NL= Brandon Webb (ARI)
Al= Chien-Mein Wang (NYY)

Ok This will be incredibly simple for me
Ill argue Wang vs Beckett next argument
Jake Peavy is a way better candidate than brandon webb
First of All jake peavy is sitting on his throne as the reigning NL Cy Young And era champion
Peavy is also off to a better start than Brandon webb
Peavy pitches in a great pitchers park
Peavy finished last season with a 2.54 era
Webb finished last season witha 3.01 era
peavy was 19-6
webb was 18-10 on a better team
Peavy struck out 240
Webb struck out 194
Peavy walked 68
webb walked 72
Peavy allowed 169 hits
webb allowed 209 hits
peavy pitched 223.1 inn
webb pitched 236.1 inn
peavy opp average .208
webb opp average .237
thats last years stats
now ill elaborate on how peavy is having a better season this year, thus far
peavy has a 1.64 era
webb has a 1.86 era
Peavy is 3-0
webb is 3-0
Peavy has 3 starts
Webb has 4 starts
Peavy has 1 CG
Webb has 0 CG
Peavy has 16 K's
Webb has 22 k's(1 extra start you know peavy will have more than 6 next start)
Both are about equal in bb/9
Peavy is at 2.45 bb/9
Webb is at 2.48bb/9
Peavy is at 6.46k/9
webb is at 6.75k/9
(you know that will change because peavy k's more guys)
peavy 8.98k/9
webb7.26k/9
peavy wins

Webb and Peavy is a toss up. They both already have one, and the winner this year will come from the one who stays healthier.

Here is my big reason for Wang. He was severly embarassesd over last postseason, and learned how to throw a changeup and a slider to go along with his sinker now. He has more motivation than any of the other candidates, plus he is already a great pitcher. With the addition of these new pitches, he should be almost unhittable because he will be able to keep hitters off balance alot better than he used to.

Beckett has only made 2 starts this year, so you cannot tell me about him being off to a terrible start but you no hes going to bounce back. the guy is a warrior out there and he never quits. and when beckett is on and really confident NO ONE can hit him. Yes wang was off to a great start, his stats were beautiful until last night when he was torched by becketts red sox. Wang really choked last year in the playoffs, and i dont think its a coincidence that beckett has 3 rings. Hes just so dominant in the octobor and november. Beckett is invaluable to the REd Sox and the dynasty they have going right now. With Schilling injured and Matsuzaka not being so consistent a lot of pressure will be handed to Beckett and we no how he does in big time games and pressure situations

No, Im not criticizng Beckett at all, and he is the most dominating postseason pitcher in the game right now. However, that is during the postseason. Becketts back might flare up during the season which will cause him to miss starts. wang will want to prove himself as a great pitcher and with the 2 new pitches plus his sinker wang has the upper hand.

Beckett? He's currently 1-1 with an ERA of over 6. Wang is 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA. It's way too early to tell, but Wang has a tremendous headstart. Prediction TD's..gotta love them.

It'll spike up Wang's ERA without a doubt, that's why prediction TD's like this are difficult to prove. Plus, Wang was due for a bad game anyway. Beckett is probably due for better games.

Despite all that, I will still wait for the arguments. lol

Webb is tearing it up for Arizona. What helps Webb is that he is playing for a good team. Why do you think Beckett did so well last year? Granted he did good but with the BoSox for his defenese and offense gave him extra support.
