Hanley Ramirez of the Florida Marlins
HANDS DOWN!

I am going to have to go with David Wright of the NY Mets. He had exactly 30 HR's last season.

He's off to a great start this season with already 4 HR's and is tied for NL lead league with 15 RBI's.

So my pick, David Wright.

The argument was actually the NL MVP of last year, not the prediction for this year. Okay so now that we have that out of the way, i do not see anything that says Wright had a better year than Hanley last year, other than Hanley having 1 less home run.
.332BA--29Homers--81RBI's--51steals--48doubles--6triples--212hits--125runs
.325BA--30Homers--107RBI's--34steals--42doubles--1triple--196hits--113runs

Hanley was the 1 on top and as you can see all of his numbers are better except for the power factor as he was lacking 1 home run and 26 RBI's but the lack of RBI;s was because of Hanley's spot in the order, and because of his team. Hanley hit first in the order last year, so he did not have as many people to drive in, but Wright hit 5th in the lineup, which gets a lot of RBI's and he drove in Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, while Hanley was driving in the bottom of the lineup, which is much weaker. And there is a huge difference in steals, runs, and hits. And even average is a lot higher making Hanley a better candidate for NL MVP last year than David Wright.

Hmm, well you should have worded the title of your TD differently, It is misleading. It should have been worded: "Who should have won the NL MVP last year(with 30 or less HR) besides Rollins?"

Anyway, I am still going to argue for Wright. Hanley was great last year, but Wright was great as well. He achieved the 30-30 club while Hanley just missed it by a HR.

Also, Wright definitely plays better D at the corner. Hanley has his share of blunders at SS. Wright won a Gold Glove LY.

Anyway, Wright drove in more runs last year and had a better OBP. He is a combination of power, speed, and defense.

Alright, let's talk who was more clutch last season. MVP usually define players who perform well in the clutch situations.

With RISP(runners in scoring position)

Wright: 49 for 158, 7 HR, 74 RBI, .310 avg
Hanley: 47 for 153, 3 HR, 52 RBI, .307 avg

As you can see, Wright rises more to the occasion. He's more likely to knock in the runs when the opportunity presents itself. That is the mark of an MVP candidate.

With a man on 3rd base with less than 2 outs, Wright had batted .559 compared to Hanley's .500. So Wright made a little more impact with his bat.

Okay this is gay, i had a better argument and u just got your friends to vote for you, you know, fannation is no fun when it is just who has more friends to vote for them so suck on that you cheater. You cant even play fair, i just wanna have fun and have real votes not cheap ones so why dont u just open up another throwdown, fanmail all ur friends tell them to vote for you and improve ur record to 49-3-3. Good job at cheating you cheater because this happens to me every TD and u just cheat so no1 has tht good a record without cheating, and u r a huge cheater so just open up another TD and have fun cheating u loser. Choad
i mean chaos**

I am a cheater?

How so? If i did have friends who viewed this TD, they would vote on the arguments. Just because I have 105 or so friends, that does not mean they vote for me. it is all about the arguments, and you just wasted your last box by implying me as a cheater.

Believe me, I am not even popular on this site. I just do what I do and give an honest argument. If people seem to side by me, well that is out of my control. I have never told anyone to vote for me. I have always told them to vote on the best argument. Throwdowns are about who has the better arguments, and I believe that is what they should vote on.

I am thinking you are feeling a bit frustrated, but accusing of being a cheater is simply out of line. I have never told anyone or persuaded anyone to vote for me. If anything, they will vote for the arguments. I have no true friends on this site, and just because I have 105 of them on my profile..that does not mean anything. That is just ridiculous.

Hanley is a disaster at defense...should that not be taken into account?

April 17, 2008  12:05 PM ET

Sorry, that was silly...thinking a player should be able to play defense...

April 17, 2008  12:07 PM ET

Hey check out this TD, I dont care who everybody votes for.

Lol. Well, at least Wright has an advantage in the department Jimmer.

April 17, 2008  12:55 PM ET

Jim called it. HanRam is a great hitter- for now. But his fielding is crap, and that costs his team. All things considered, I'd have to go with Wright.

Also, there's nothing in Ramirez's past to indicate that he's this good a power hitter. I just have trouble believing his HR success is for real. Example- he hit 27 HRs in the minors...in 1536 AT BATS! Now he's hitting 29 in one season?

I know he was called up at a very young age, but the power spike came out of nowhere. Average and speed are probably legit though.

I agree Porkins. Hanley needs to stack a few more seasons of decent HR totals before he can be considered a legitimate power hitter. He's definitely a speedster.

If you can prove that I have told people to vote for me and NOT on the arguments itself, I will gladly forfeit this Td to you. Seems like there's more to your anger than just this TD. How are you doing on your other TD's?

April 17, 2008  03:02 PM ET

OK i just asked Gonets and he said that u fanmailed him and said "i got a new TD vote for me and i'll vote for you". Thats a nice little deal u cheater nice cheatjob

April 17, 2008  03:06 PM ET

I have never fanmailed Gonets. That is ridiculous. He's not even on my friend list. I would like gonets to prove to me that i did such a thing, telling him to vote for me. Show me a fanmail saying that ""i got a new TD vote for me and i'll vote for you".

April 17, 2008  03:20 PM ET

You make these accusations, yet you can't prove anything. Ask anyone if i have ever fanmailed them with those words ..""i got a new TD vote for me and i'll vote for you". If i do fanmail people about a TD, it'll be with "Vote based on the better arguments, be unbiased". It is done to get a TD more notice, just like writing blogs about it like you've done with one of yours.
