What a completely different team (namely defense) New Orleans could become with the addition of homegrown Glenn Dorsey from nearby LSU. Absolutely worth the jump into the top 3. He makes the rest of that defense better. He allows Vilma and Morgan to pursue the football and keeps blockers away from them. Him drawing double teams also benefits Will Smith, Charles Grant, and Bobby McCray at end positions and allow that D-Line to put massive amounts of pressure on the QB.

Plus their other major need is CB which could be addressed in the 2nd Round because of the depth of the position this year. Someone like Aqib Talib, Antoine Cason or Brandon Flowers should still be available in the 2nd Round...and all 3 are very good CB's.

What about the money?! Well if you trade your #10 in this year's draft and your 2009 #1 (which with this addition should be in the 20's) for the #2, the money isn't much of an issue.

i disagree. i think if they do trade up they should draft vernon gholston. he is the better player of the 2 staight up. dorsey isnt big enough to be a tackle in the nfl and he isnt agile enough to be a end. he is just one of those guys that got stuck in the middle. gholston is the much better player. dorsey is a great pass rusher but thats it. he would get pushed back several yards against florida on run plays and since his injury he just hasnt been the same. he is a great pass rusher but he isnt even leageu average as a rush stopper and people forget that 2 b succesful u need both as a tackle. gholston is the end. he doesnt need to worry about stopping the rtun as much as doing what he is good at which is rushing the pass. dorsey just isnt fast enough to be an end.

plus dorsey hasnt been the same since his injury and he is a big risk to take

OK first of all, it's very hard to understand you're typing and verbage but I think I got what you're trying to say....

Dorsey isn't big enough?? Not agile enough?? Stuck in the middle??

He's 6'2 300 lbs. That's not huge for a DT but I would say it's average...especially for a 4-3 DT. He's extremely agile for a DT. He was the most disruptive defensive college football player through the first 6 or 7 games of the season that I have seen in a while. Then he got hurt. He gets penetration and commands double teams. The only legit conern would be injuries and if the Saints evaluated him and determined that's not an issue then you have to take the dominant tackle. Have to be good at both run defense and pass defense? Getting penetration (Check on the pass rush) and commanding double teams (Check on the run defense).

Now to the fact that you say they need to take Gholston...really?! I'm an OSU fan and even I can see he's a terrible fit for the Saints. They have DE's...3 of them. 1 they just signed. You say Dorsey is stuck in middle...but Gholston is the ULTIMATE tweener. He would make a great rush LB in a 3-4. But the Saints play a 4-3. There's no way they'd trade up for Gholsto

Forfeited Turn

OK...not a lot else I can say.

So I'll make a bold prediction...the New Orleans Saints will receive one of the two byes in the NFC...that's IF they make this trade up for Dorsey and McCallister returns healthy.

I dont see them giving up as much as the Rams are going to ask for, for that #2 pick

April 23, 2008  04:11 PM ET

2 First Round picks wouldn't be enough for the Rams? Maybe throw in a 3rd or 4th as well....

That seems like a pretty decent offer...

April 23, 2008  04:12 PM ET

That is a lot to give up for one player, who has injury concerns.

April 23, 2008  04:12 PM ET

No way they move up to #2 just to take Gholston, and no way Gholston is better right now than either Dorsey or C. Long.

April 23, 2008  04:13 PM ET

can someone explain how exactly they would trade up?

um sorry but where did the saints get an additional 1st round pick to offer the Rams?

April 23, 2008  04:16 PM ET

They were hiding it in their anus. DUH Guru! You silly goose.

What DT doesnt have injury concerns?? Look at all the great ones in the NFL today. Stroud, Haynesworth, Pat Williams, Kris Jenkins, Corey Williams....They all have had injures and have missed a good amount of time over thier careers

April 23, 2008  04:21 PM ET

I don't think they jump that high for Gholston. He projects more as a 3-4 OLB/DE in the NFL, and the Saints run a 4-3 If they take a linebacker, Rivers is probably the only guy the covet that highly. Look for them to take my sleeper pick of Jerrod Mayo in the second though, he's got stud written all over him.

April 23, 2008  04:22 PM ET

they dnt have to jump that high but im just saying that i wouldnt take dorsey with gholston on the board

maybe they should just throw in the 3rd 1st round pick they;ve also been hiding. That would definitely seal the deal

April 23, 2008  04:31 PM ET

The additional #1 would come in 2009 obviously...as I stated at the end of my first argument.

Good point Goodell, in my opinion still a lot to give for him.

April 23, 2008  04:43 PM ET

i apologize then doodle, i did not read that.

April 23, 2008  04:49 PM ET

Not a problem...just didn't want you to think I'm pulling picks out of my ****....haha

April 23, 2008  04:49 PM ET

They don't have to trade all the way to #2 to get Dorsey.

April 23, 2008  04:53 PM ET

I think they do...the 2 teams after the Rams (Falcons and Raiders) both could possibly take Dorsey.

The Falcons are basically down to 2 candidates...Dorsey and Ryan. I think they SHOULD take Ryan at #3 but deep down I think the Falcons take Dorsey if he's available. So the Saints would have to jump the Falcons to get him.

April 23, 2008  04:56 PM ET

The issue is as Prodigy pointed up. It is one thing to decide you would like to trade up and quite another to get a dansing partner. Teams trading out of the top 5 spots is extremely rare, especially when a stud D Tackle is available. There aren't many teams that couldn't use a run stopper to anchor their defense for the next 10 years or so.

"pointed out" not "up" excuse me.
