TD Lovers Tourney Round 1, The best fit for Shaun Alexander is........

Here are the rules, pick a team that could USE Alexander (as a starter, or an effective back in a 2 back system), and would be beneficial for Alexander...........

My Pick is, The New Orlean Saints

The Saints do have RB's Reggie Bush, and Aaron Stecker, but in New Orleans, they desperately need a proven RB to help them get a consistent ground game. It's already been proven that Reggie isn't a consistent rusher, and they could use a good runner like Alexander.

You may be saying, "Alexander is washed up and would do nothin in NO", but ever since that line in Seattle fell apart (with the loss of Hutchinson), it became harder for him to run. The line in NO is good enough to provide a better push than in Seattle.

Plus, there wouldn't be a conflict between the RB's, Bush could come in to run some downs, and play as a WR from the backfield, while Alexander would be the consistent running attack.

Plus with Drew Brees and the passing attack, the running game would free some more room for Alexander.

Good luck

I've got a very, very poignant sentence for you.

The Saints resigned Deuce McAllister.

What possible motivation would Alexander or the Saints have to sign another veteran power back coming off of injury?

With that being said, I believe he'd be a good fit in Detroit. They cut Kevin Jones, TJ Duckett signed in Seattle, and only have Tatum Bell, a speed back who's never carried a full load. They're changing offensive systems from Mike Martz's "Pass like your **** is on fire" method, to a more standard approach. Alexander would make a good compliment to the Lions' offense. The more running game there is, the more time that Jon Kitna has to throw the ball, and for a team that didn't miss the playoffs by much, this little improvement could go a long way.

Also, Stecker had 650 yards from scrimmage, and Bush 2 yards short of 1000, so it's not like the Saints need running back production. Detroit, on the other hand was second to last in the league in rushing, and didn't return two of their top three rushers.

This consummate "thunder and lightning" running back pairing would work wonders for Detroit's anemic rush offense.

Ah, Deuce IS back....... it'll be harder to argue now, but....

Reggie might've been 2 short of 1000 total yards, but most of his are off of receptions, the Saints don't have that consistent back to carry them. Reggie is still learning how to "run" in the NFL, Deuce is hurt much of the time and they would probably trade him for a draft pick. Stecker would remain as the back up for the future.

The Lions last year gave up around 50 sacks, that line wouldn't be able to produce for Alexander, (kevin jones averaged 3.8 YPC last year). Plus in Detroit he would play against the following defenses:
Chicago- bad year last year, but has potential
Minnesota- Good run defense
and GB- Improving drastically on the defensive side.

In NO, he would play:
Atlanta- not a good defense
Tampa-Sub par
Carolina- Sub-par

Defenses like GB and Minnesota pose threats to Alexander, but in the NFC South, he would play Atlanta and Carolina, for me the division would favor Alexander in the NFC South.
In Detroit, he doesn't have another guy to help him in recieving (Kevin Jones doesn't do a lot), but in New Orleans, he would have Bush who could be the recieving back and relieve the stress.

They JUST resigned McAllister. They intend for him to be a Saint for the forseeable future. They'd not cut him to take a flyer on a person who's more broken than McAllister now.

If Green Bay's an improving run defense, why did they just trade their best defensive tackle?

KEVIN JONES WAS CUT! Dude, he's not competing against someone who just got released. Alexander is a good receiver, you have to be to be a back in a Mike Holmgren offense, that's why Maurice Morris stayed in Seattle forever, and that's what made Dorsey Levens so successful in Green Bay all those years ago.

Also, Reggie Bush can't be a full-time receiving back until he figures out how to pass protect. Deuce has missed more than two games in only two seasons in his career. It's a fluke that they've both been in the last three years.

Lastly, as for your comment that most of Reggie Bush's yardage comes from the pass, I simply say this:

581 yards rushing last season to 417 yards receiving

If the Lions were running the ball occasionally last year, the defenses wouldn't have been able to tee off on Jon Kitna. A rushing game will do wonders for that sack total. Plus, if Alexander succeeds, he'll get all the credit.

Wow, take it dude, I need to get up to par with my NFL news.......
I feel like an idiot...lol

Marion Barbar, they had a problem splitting time with Julius Jones and him, I think they wanted to go to a regular singleback set.

Good TD ( not so much for me)

McAllister is one thing, but when I miss Kevin Jones being cut you know you have to pay more attention to ESPN.

New England! The older player's that have supposedly lost a step or two come to New England and rekindle their careers (Corey Dillon, Randy Moss). Besides, Alexander will help Maroney with the load.
