The Utah Jazz will knock out the Lakers if the two go head-to-head in the conference semis.

The Jazz can cover at least the Lakers starters in this series should it happen, in my opinion if you put AK47 up against KB24 on the defensive end he could very well do as well as Shane Battier did against Kobe this season, Pau Gasol could be countered by Boozer or possibly Okur or a mix of both over a series, the one of these that isn't taking Gasol picks up Odom, while Deron Williams can easily take Derek Fisher at the point with his size and strength, and Radmanovic or Walton would be taken by either Ronnie Brewer in a smaller line-up or Paul Milsap in a bigger more defensive lineup with possible switches off Fisher or Radmanovic/Walton should they feel the need to double Kobe or Pau for stretches of games and with Utah's sharp defensive rotations and tough perimeter D they would stand a good chance of getting to the man left open from the doubles before he would be able to get a shot off or at least get a hand in his face.

On offense the Jazz were the most efficient offensive team in the league after the All-Star break and with Boozer and Williams pick and rolling and weak interior D from the Lakers there should be little stopping Boozer ripping the defense to shreds.

You say the Jazz can cover the starters...where is the proof in this? In the four regular season games between the Jazz and Lakers, the Lakers won 3-1. All of the Lakers wins were by at least 10 points, not too good on the defensive side by the Jazz. As for the one loss that the Lakers incurred, it was before the Gasol trade. With the addition of Gasol, the Lakers have been nearly unstoppable.

The Lakers would have homecourt advantage for this series, that's not good for the Jazz at all. They were a miserable 17-24 on the road this season and lost both times they played in Staples Center. The Lakers are a good road team however, going 27-14 away from Staples. The Jazz were an amazing 37-4 at home but one of those losses was by 11 points to the Lakers, late in the season too.

The Lakers aren't really concerned with the Jazz's offense. They play good defense and have an unstoppable offense with a top MVP canidate leading them in ways he never has. Kobe can now not only score at will, he can also dump the ball off to teammates if needed, knowing that they will be able to produce.

The Lakers would win with Kobe leading the way with a strong supporting cast behind him.

Forfeited Turn

We also can't forget that the Lakers came out on top of the toughest Western Conference playoff race in history. They earned that number one seed not by luck, but by talent. They've proved that they can beat anyone in the league and beat them handily.

The Jazz are not talented enough to stop the Lakers. Kobe can't really be stopped by anyone in the league, much less anyone on the Jazz. He can shoot from the outside or take the ball to the rack. If the Jazz decide to double team, then he'll drop it off to someone else. Gasol is very good in the post and is a pretty good passer too. The Lakers are a great outside shooting team. Fisher, Farmar, and Vujacic can all drain the three ball very well.

The Lakers also have the edge in coaching. Jerry Sloan is good, don't get me wrong, but he's never won a title. Phil Jackson has won nine championships and is one of the greatest coaches of all time. When you give him arguably the best player in the game (Kobe) thrown in with his famed Triangle Offense, he is pretty much unstoppable. He was also the coach of the great Bulls teams that beat the Jazz in the Finals in the mid to late 90's...

Well played my friend take your victory in this throwdown after looking back at the lakers so far in the playoffs then there pretty much unstoppable except possibly by my hornets lol

Good luck HornetsUK

as long as Kobe doesn't give up shooting the ball, the Lakers would have it on his sheer force of will alone!

I have to vote -------------> so far and I am a huge Jazz fan
If you would have worded it "possibly will" instead of "will" I would think differently this is the one team that Utah doesn't match up with very well however they have the players to possibly beat the Lakers but it isn't a sure thing
will wait for arguments though

April 25, 2008  03:34 PM ET

Yep, he's right. Lakers defense is garbage. They won't get past the 2nd round. Either Houston or Utah will beat them. (if no key players are injured)

April 25, 2008  03:38 PM ET

But their offense is money...and they beat them 3-1 in the regular season...

If they Lakers beat the Nuggets, they will rip the Jazz apart. What kind of a line-pu are you suggesting hornetsuk, okur, boozer, ak, millsap, williams? ak47 is not fast enough to defend kobe. the jazz will get in foul trouble and their thin bench will kill them.

I have never heard anybody say the Jazz bench is thin. They have one of the most productive benches in the NBA.

Jazz beat the Lakers? Ha! Keep THINKING that because we all KNOW the Lakers will serve them with their own music. Lakers in 6.

who is gunna gaurd kobe and if you double team him or triple phil jackson will still find a way to get kobe open

April 25, 2008  10:56 PM ET

lakers in 6. Kobe is unguardable by anybody on the Jazz

i still think that the jazz have a chance but i've certainly weakened my stance after seeing the power of the lakers against the nuggets on both ends of the floor, igo the jazz bench is pretty deep with nice role players and AK is pretty fast and his length would allow for kobe having an extra half-step or so and if he can't stop him i don't think anyone can, and also the jazz always get into foul trouble infact if i'm not mistaken they are the most fouling team in the nba. but i have forfeited so i guess i have proven most people's opinions on this throwdown.
