The way they absolutely dismantled the Suns tells me they are just as good if not better than they have been since Duncan has arrived. They never turned down their intensity after the instant classic 2OT game 1. Tony Parker has and will be underrated for a long time. Greg Popavich showed he can be as good of an offensive mastermind as he is a defensive genius. I should save some ammo for the next few arguments.

Not. Gonna. Happen.

For starters, don't you realize this is a year that ends in an even number and the Spurs only win in odd numbered years? OK, that's superstition but it's played out over the years.

More importantly, the Spurs are no longer the best team in the West, let alone in the NBA. They are simply playing an over matched Suns team, right now. They are doing what they should do, nothing more.

How likely is it they get past the Hornets and Lakers (likely opponents) to even make the finals? Not very likely. And even if they survived those two matchups they'll be so physically beat up, what chance would they have against, say, the Celtics?

Nope, I'll take the field on this one, thanks. The odds are far too stacked against the Spurs this year.

What makes you think Chris Paul is going to be able to do anything more than Steve Nash is doing vs. the Spurs defense? What makes you think that Pao Gasol is going to do any better than Amare or Shaq?

The Spurs have proven over and over that they are unbeatable in a seven game series. They called the Suns/Spurs matchup in the second round the Championship series last year, I dont see it being any different this year. The Suns created their team to beat the Spurs and they cant do it.

You underestimate team chemistry in basketball. No team has more chemistry on both sides of the court as the Spurs. The Lakers, Celtics, nor the Hornets can beat this team in a series.

Chris Paul is the Hornets?

Pao Gasol is the Lakers?

Come on.

The Suns were slowed way down by acquiring Shaq. That might have worked in regular season, but it takes away the one strength they had in the post season...run and gun. Newsflash...the Suns ain't the Lakers.

The Spurs "have proven over and over that they are unbeatable in a seven game series"? Really? Then why exactly is it that despite those 5 championships, they haven't won two consecutively? Unbeatable? Hardly. And they are more beatable than ever right now.

The Spurs are going to have to go through some very hard fought series to even consider MAKING the finals. The Hornets are a better team. The Lakers, finally healthy, are a FAR better team.

I'm underestimating team chemistry? I'm a Celtics fan. There IS no team in the NBA right now with better chemistry than the C's. I've been saying it since the pre-season when people would talk about lack of chemistry...you simply don't know these players. The big three have known each other SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. That's why those two specific players were targeted by Ainge...who knows a thing or two about chemistry himself, don't ya think?

The Celtics may have won 10 or so games more than the Spurs, but lets not forget they play in an atrocious conference and play 20-30 easier games than the Spurs.

As far as chemistry... there is no way the Celtics have more chemistry right now. The Spurs have had the same core players for 8 years now... that is unheard of these days.

It's more than just chemistry, it is coaching and discipline as well.

Doc Rivers is 1/100th the coach of Pops. There is no way he outsmarts us in a seven game series. There is no way that this team, whom has logged less than 100 games with each other, is going to be able to adjust quick enough to what the Spurs can throw at them.

The team with the best chance against the Spurs is the Lakers or Mavs, but Im starting to write of the Mavs because their chemistry is poor at best.

The Lakers, who were a one man team, is now a two man team. Bowen can contain Kobe and Gasol doesnt stand a chance with the barrage of skilled big men we have. Kobe is going to have to shut down the steak house and drop 40 a game while shooting a better percentage than he has EVER in order to beat the Spurs in a series.

The Suns were the last line of defense for the NBA!

The Celtics play in an atrocious conference? Hate to break this to ya, but they have a BETTER winning percentage against the West that they have against the East. Boston was 25-5 against Western Conference teams. So much for beating up on a weak conference, huh?

You might recall this is the team who went through Texas last month beating Houson (ending their winning streak), Dallas, and San Antonio in consecutive games. Same team that blew out the Lakers twice, too. And if the Celtics "played 20-30 easier games than the Spurs" over the course of the season, all that means is they are fresher for the playoffs and will have an easier road to the finals while the Spurs will have two more hard fought battles just to get the opportunity to lose to Boston.

You don't seem to understand what "team chemistry" is. There is a lot more to it than just playing together for a long time.

The Lakers are a two man team? I guess you've never heard of Lamar Odom? Kobe will have to average 40 a game? I guess it's a good thing that's exactly what he's averaging the playoffs so far, eh?

Again, I'll take the field over the Spurs. Particularly when the Spurs are only the 5th or 6th best team playing

"people always hate on the spurs...i believe..."

It's not a matter of hating on the Spurs, Steveo. It's a matter of they simply aren't among the upper echelon of teams this year. I'll take the field over most any team most years, but this year, absolutely I'll take the field over the Spurs who are only the 5th or 6th best team in the NBA to begin with.

We had a similar throwdown to this, CCC.

I really don't see how people say the Spurs aren't one of the top teams. I am a Lakers fan, and I believe they're the best in the West. Period. But the Spurs are one of the top 3 teams, if not even better than New Orleans. I love how you're saying they're playing an over-matched Suns team when you yourself thought they (Spurs) would lose to the Suns. I find it funny how you've tried to turn the table.

Am I saying the Spurs will win the Championship? Absolutely not. But can you count them out? Absolutely not. Everyone, year in and year out, says their too old to make it. They're out of gas. They can't win against this team, or that team.

Take the hint: they can.

If I recall correctly the Spurs were not the best in the west last year either and they won it all.

April 26, 2008  09:51 AM ET

I'd be shocked if the Spurs went on to beat the Lakers and Celtics, if they should play them later on

April 26, 2008  10:22 AM ET

CCC, not in the upper echelon? You MUST be on something. Will they win the Finals? I don't know. But I'd say they have just as good as shot as anybody, if not better. Because, as far as I know, they are DEFENDING CHAMPS. Hornets? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Ha!

I wish someone with arguing capabilities started this TD.

I just saw my last throwdown before this one from 07/2007

I think I am going to challenge that guy to a new one.

April 26, 2008  01:51 PM ET

ok. the celtics already proved they could beat the spurs in their house. The first time the celtics played the spurs at home kg wasnt even playin and they beat em vote right everyone!!!!!!!!!!

April 26, 2008  01:52 PM ET

and the second time they beat them was in the texas triangle so they can beat the spurs

April 26, 2008  02:30 PM ET

I don't know who to vote for here. Crappy arguments by cowpies, but i don't think the Spurs will win it all. I do, however think that they have the best chance of defeating the Hornets, who are the best team in basketball this year. The Lakers have no chance. The Celtics are a threat. They will likely get out of the east, but could lose to Cleveland possibly.
But the Celtics or Lakers would both lose to the Spurs in any series.

I guess what I'm saying is that The Spurs-Horns 2nd round match-up is the true championship just like last years Spurs- Suns 2nd rounder.

April 26, 2008  03:51 PM ET

"I love how you're saying they're playing an over-matched Suns team when you yourself thought they (Spurs) would lose to the Suns."

And I said this when, exactly?

April 26, 2008  03:53 PM ET

"I guess what I'm saying is that The Spurs-Horns 2nd round match-up is the true championship"

Ruby, give up Basketball. Just give it up. Would you like to tell me again how the Celtics would be lucky to make the playoffs? How KG, Pierce, and Allen all suck? How Boston has no bench and can't play defense? Basically everything you say about basketball turns out to be 100% wrong.

April 26, 2008  09:07 PM ET

"We had a similar throwdown to this, CCC."

No we didn't.

April 26, 2008  09:17 PM ET

And you should tell me again how the Celtics were gonna break the '96 Bulls record, moron. Or that KG was better than Duncan. Or that He would be the run away MVP.
Every thing I say is wrong, huh?
I said Atlanta would make the play-offs. You said they wouldn't. Check of score right now, they are kicking Bostons a/ss in the 1st half.
I said New O would become elite. You said they wouldn't. You just admitted in you brainless argument that they are better than SA, the defending champions.
I said CP3 would be MVP candidate. You said no. he won't win this year, but will get more votes than KG.
And you did say that the Suns would beat SA.
I don't have time to look up your moron comments to find it.

You don't know anything about basketball or sports in general. So shaddap!

April 26, 2008  10:30 PM ET

Celts giving up 84 in 3 quarters to ATLANTA? Cmon, the Spurs are gonna sweep the Suns and the Celts are losing games to the Hawks. Dont let me know when you are on my block, let me know when you are at my door. You are wasting my time.
