It was good that the NFL made it so that you had to pick your person in the draft in 10 minutes.

Heres why:

Hobody wants to sit around half of the day just waiting for a team to make up their minds while they they are sitting there in anticipation. This new rule ensures that the draft will go a lot faster and be more....as I should say....active. Everybody will be wanting to hussle to make last minute trades. This way, if people need to go somewhere, and they want to see who their team drafts, they don't have to wait too long. They will probably get more viewers this way. People won't get tired of watching it. People will actually get to enjoy the draft a lot more.

Disagree?

Throwdown!

It's certainly good for the television viewers, which was the purpose of the whole thing.

It's HORRIBLE for the teams, though.

Do you realize that each team has SIX phones in front of them during the draft so they can talk to several teams simultaneously about trades? Nobody wants to sit there while a team makes up it's mind? You kidding me? Teams aren't deciding who to draft at a given position, they are fielding calls and working on deals. For every trade that gets made there are 50 that don't.

"This way, if people need to go somewhere, and they want to see who their team drafts, they don't have to wait too long."

Wow! God forbid my team make the best decision, I need to go to the grocery store damn it! Hurry up! Not my money being spent afterall.

"People won't get tired of watching it. People will actually get to enjoy the draft a lot more. "

Fantastic. So instead of giving teams a bit more time to make MULTI-MILLION dollar decisions, we should instead make it more viewer friendly to attract higher ratings?

The draft isn't supposed to be a spectator sport all in itself and that's what this rule change is trying to turn it into.

You have a point.

But I still don't get what you mean. This is better for everyone around. It might mean that they have to decide a little faster than usaul. They can do that, they're football teams. I think that they will deal with it and have no problems. This is better for the NFL, too.

It will be more fast-paced. Teams will be calling on the phone real quick trying to make deals over the phone. It will be more anticipating to look forward to who people draft with that amount of time and see who the players that they draft are.

Forgot to say Good Luck.

Better for everyone around? Uh, no.

Not better for the GM's whose very jobs hang in the balance.

Not better for the owners who will be committing millions of dollars.

Not better for the fan, even, in the long run. Sure, we might get bored with each pick taking so long until it gets to OUR favorite team, but in the long run wouldn't you rather your team make the best possible decision rather than rush through the process simply to appease the viewing audience?

And how is it better for the NFL? I mean for one day it spikes ratings slightly, maybe. So what? In the grand scheme of things, it's detrimental to the league in my view. In making every effort to turn the draft into a ratings winner, they are turning their backs on the franchises.

It won't affect a Jerry Jones much because he can make a quick decision without worrying about his job. What about a Matt Millen? Or basically any other GM in the game?

Again, you like this move because in this microwave society we live in you can't wait an extra 5 minutes for anything. Even if it means your favorite team makes a huge mistake.

Some things shouldn't be rushed just to appease an impatient public. This is one of them.

But the thing is that they didn't start this to ease the public.

They did on their own accord. Nobody forced them to do that. The NFL makes its own choices. They thought it was good for the NFL, so they did it.

The NFL really doesn't care what the television ratings are for the Draft. They did this because they wanted to, for better or worse.

Ok, I'll finish this as soon as I stop laughing.

"The NFL really doesn't care what the television ratings are for the Draft. "

That was a joke? The ENTIRE reason for shortening the time between picks and making the first day ONLY the 1st and 2nd rounds was for TV ratings. There was NO other reason to do it. None. It was determined that fans only care about the first two rounds and they get tired of waiting between draft choices.

Anyhow, I don't need to rehash the argument here. These moves were 100% motivated by TV ratings and NOT to benefit the NFL or the teams in any manner other than revenue. This might be my shortest closing statement ever, but there is nothing else to be said, here.
