When I see teams win a championship, the cities they play in go nuts. They go on the streets and start a riot. Cars filp over, fire breaks out, etc.

You don't see this in New York. When a New York team wins a championship, violence doesn't happen like in other cities.

When the Yankees won World Series in the late 90"s, there were no riots left and right. When The Giants beats the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, no bomb fires or flares occur.

The thing that bothers me is when a team wins a championship, the city they play in goes nuts and turn to violence. Why this happens all the time I have no idea.

Cities should learn how New York handle the way people behavior when their team wins a championship beacuse at least New York fans behavior themselves when their team wins a championship.

More peacefully than WHOM?

Did they riot in Tampa Bay when they won the Stanley Cup? No...
Do they riot in New England whenever the Patriots or Red Sox win a title? No...
When Pittsburgh defeated Seattle in Super Bowl XL, did the Steel City go up in flames? No...

"Why this happens all the time I have no idea."

I had no idea that this happened all the time...

In reality, most sports championships are a time for a community to celebrate -- and that is exactly what they do. Ticker-tape parades are NOT riots...

New York certainly knows how to celebrate a championship, but do they do it any more peacefully than any of these communities? Hardly...

Formulating the topic sentence so vaguely gives little basis for argument, EXCEPT for the fact that with so little to go on your contention is spurious at best. New York is no perfect place, and the NYPD aren't saints who have all the answers in controlling people... just ask Abner Louima or Ousmane Zongo or Amadou Diallo...

New York may celebrate its sports titles peacefully... but more peacefully than WHOM, YDT8523?

I see a lot of colleges who win National Championships in either football or basketball go crazy. Bomb fires, flares, riots etc. When a team wins a championship, the city they play in would get out of control, college or pros. The night a team win a championship, fans sometimes get out of control.

Baton Rouge lost its mind when LSU won the title? Don't recall that...
What about Lawrence, Kansas? Oh wait, they didn't either...
Perhaps it was Corvallis, Oregon? Nope...
Or was it Tallahassee when the Gators went back-to-back in basketball with a football title sandwiched in between?

The problem here, YDT, is that you cannot offer up even one concrete instance where substantial rioting occurred in the past decade. Not in the United States, at least... and I assume you are limiting jurisdiction to domestic sporting events. Since you aren't, I will declare it so right now...

There will always be unsavory elements who celebrate titles nefariously -- even in New York. But we haven't seen full-scale rioting following a title in years. This isn't the three-peat Chicago Bulls inciting violence in Chicago... there hasn't been anything like the Richard Riot in ages...

You are simply being too vague here, YDT... and until you give some actual examples of rioting, there's nothing but bluster to counter...

How about teams loses these championship games. I'll throw them in the mix also. When the Broncos won Super Bowl XXXII, there were riots. When the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, there were riots left and right outside of Fenway Park resulting in a Boston University student beibg killed. And also in 1994 after the New York Rangers beat the Vancouver Canucks In Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to win the Cup, there were riots in Vancouver. The Bottom Line is riots happen not all the time, but it does happen when it is a big sporting event in the cities that are involve.

"How about teams loses these championship games."

This is COMPLETELY off topic, YDT... the throwdown, as posted by YOU, is:

"New York celebrates winning a champioship more peacefully."

The key phrase here is WINNING... those cities with teams who lose in the finals have no bearing on the throwdown...

Further, you list this nugget:

"And also in 1994 after the New York Rangers beat the Vancouver Canucks In Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to win the Cup, there were riots in Vancouver."

First, this falls under the LOSING side... as everyone knows, it was Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter & crew, under the reins of Mike Keenan, who won the Rangers first Cup in 54 years...

Second, this falls out of jurisdiction. As I listed in the second argument:

"and I assume you are limiting jurisdiction to domestic sporting events. Since you aren't, I will declare it so right now..."

... we are limiting this throwdown to the United States. You failed to refute this point... so anything that happened in Vancouver or Montreal is irrelevant in the terms of the argument.

New York has its problems, and rioting is not as prevalent as you wish to assert...

What if they just put butter on their shoes? That will make them slippery and buttery good.

Horatio Cain, my cool uncle said the Stanley Cup was used to smuggle school books into Canda....

April 26, 2008  12:52 PM ET

No you just see every other crime committed and they don't need a championship in New York for that to happen.

April 26, 2008  01:05 PM ET

If the 'Canes win the Cup again, I'm personally going to burn Raleigh to the ground.
