Ken Whisenhunt will improve his team the most out of all the new head coaches in the NFL.

I'll be kind of suprised if not alot of people agree with this. In Ken Whisenhunt you have an offensive minded head coach who will have some great tools to work with. He has brought with him a great offensive line coach in Russ Grimm, hoping to maximize the potential that the Cardinals will have.
I think he has a better chance then any of the other coaches due to the fact that for one he has so much that he can improve.
Norv Turner and Wade Phillips have both been handed playoff teams.

While I've heard Lane Kiffen has been making the Oakland Raider an entirely different team, its going to be hard to turn that boat around in one year.

I essentialy think that the tools are definitaly there for Whisenhunt if he can improve his offensive line play and make M. Leinart efficient with the weapons he has around him.

I don't know if playoffs are in the picture, but I would take a 8-8 record away.

first of all, ken whisenhunt has a real good team with good pieces but even russ grimm can't help that offensive line, I could get 5 sacks against them.
the coach that will problably improve his team the best will be lane kiffin because they can't get worst than they were last year.
but the coach that will improve the team the most is Mike Tomlin because unlike Bill Cowher the players like him and his new style; and they will improve and get back to the playoffs and be a contender on their conference.

Ok well thats a fair argument I suppose. The real flaw in it is going to be the fact that Pittsburg is in a division that is going to be a little tougher then the NFC West.

Tomlin might end up being a good coach but he's taking over a team that is without three of the main guys who orchestrated that superbowl run a couple of years ago. He's also not inheriting that bad of a team, just one who was riddled with injuries and underachieved.

Kiffen isn't going to be the one due to the fact that he has alot to fix on offense. Theres a good likliness that he'll be running an offense with a rookie qb against an aggresive AFC West and a few good defenses. I'd give it a couple of years until he's able to make a huge difference.

I also don't like the argument that Mike Tomlin will be it, because his players like him. I hope thats true in Dallas, as a cowboys fan, but just because you like your coach doesn't always translate into success. Its hard to think that a change from one of the winningnest head coaches over the past 10 years (percentage wise) to a rookie head coach will automatically make them that much better.

the throwdown is about the coach who will improve his team the most
the oakland raiders can't get much worst than 2-14, if they win 5 or 6 games that an BIG improvement and that will be a great year for lane kiffin
and Mike Tomlin has a great team with a great defensive coordinator (LeBeau) and finally a healthy quarterback and two playmaking receivers, a tight end and one of the best running games in the NFL. Mike Tomlin will get the Steelers to the playoffs.
the cardinals will not make the playoffs because all the teams in the division got much better bia free agency and by the draft. the cardinals didnt get no impact free agent and levi brown will not help the ofensive line by himself.

Yeah but I don't think that Kiffen will improve them that much, they are in a much harder division then Arizona and a much harder conference.

I don't think its all of who you have on the offensive line so much as the shceme at times. Look at Denver, they have a scheme that allows for smaller and quicker offensive lineman to play.

I honestly don't think that Oakland will be that much better.. not due to the coaching, but they really didn't add any playmakers. JeMarcus Russell might end up being a star, but he still has an awful offensive line, an ok set of wideouts, and a decent set of runningbacks. The defense is good but there were times last year when it looked like you could put Joe Montana back behind that line and it wouldn't have helped much.

but the problem is that the cardinals are a power running team and they really need good linemen to be effective and you dont know if levi brown will be a bust. Edgerrin James is on the downside of his career and you dont know if matt leinart will fit into Whisenhunt's system.
mike tomlin will improve his team the most because his team will make the playoffs next year in one of footballs toughest division

I think the hiring of Grimm was just as important as hiring Wisenhunt. Sure Edge might have lost a step, but that O line was dismal last year and rarely gave him a chance. If Edge can be half as dangerous as he was in Indy, tha could be the key to opening up that incredibly talented offensive skills positions players. I am not a Cards fan, but I think they will be fun to watch this year. The Raiders? Ooof. They need A LOT of help. Even before this years draft I predicted that they will have the number one pick again NEXT YEAR. It's a shame to see that franchise in shambles. Who here thinks that it might be time for Al Davis to be removed from power?

I agree Andres, Whisenhunt was brilliant by bringing along Grimm.

Wisenhunt has no offensive line, but it will improve because of the addition of Grimm. Wisenhunt has to turn the defense around too, but I can see him turning the team around. 7-9, 8-8 seems totally doable.

Levi Brown counts as a good addition to the Cardinals line.

Whisenhunt + Grimm + Cardinals = something good. Grimm, one of the legendary Hogs in Washington will give that offensive line some attitude and skill. They will start pushing people around and blowing defensive lineman off the ball. We might see a pretty good offensive line for once in Arizona with Grimm coaching that line.

Kiffin will be fired at the end of the year, and then Al Davis will have to caoch his own team bc no one will want that **** job

Wiz and Grimm!!!! Go Cards!

June 19, 2007  04:44 PM ET

I have to agree Airforce. Whis and Grimm are great coaches. And while I think Tomlin will do well in the steel city, just the teams records last year dictate that Whis will make his team improve the most. He took over a 5-11 team, while Tomlin takes over a team that was 8-8. At BEST Pittsburgh will finish 12-4 (I think 11-5) that would only be a 4 game increase. I feel with the addition of Levi Brown and Alan Branch and another year under Leinart's belt it isn't outlandish to think the cards can go 9-7 or 10-6. There is a TON of unrealized talent on that team....

Why start an arguement with the statement "I'll be kind of suprised if not alot of people agree with this". If its that obvious, and in this case it certainly is....it isn't a throwdown.

andes- every fan in raider nation should be clamoring for Al to hang up his disco chains. That man is undeniably the worst owner/gm in all of sports. The amazing thing is they have had so many high picks since they went to the superbowl (they got 2 extra 1st and 2 extra 2nd rounders b/c of gruden) how do they continue to be so bad.... although people shouldn't totally write Kiffin off (he was just the only guy young enough and gullible enough to take the job)... he is the son of Monte Kiffin...
