You can go several ways here...

As the Defending Champs the Red Sox are the Best Team...
As the longest current winning streak the Tampa Bay Rays are the best team (on a 6 game winning streak)...

But my choice is the Team that has been head and Shoulders above the rest of the teams so far this season ... The Arizona Diamondbacks (at 18-7 with a .720 winning percentage)

I'm going to take the Chicago Cubs (since you took my team, great minds think alike I guess)

Right now they have a 16-9 record. Since you didn't put up much of an argument first I'll wait for a solid one to argue my point in taking the Cubs

Well Lets look at the Stats...
Team
DBacks are 18-7 .720 winning % vs Cubs are 16-9 .640
Dbacks are 9-2 @ Home and 7-3 on the road vs Cubs 10-4 @ home & 6-5 on the Road
Both the DBacks and Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 games .

Hitting
Dbacks have hit 33 HRs and scored 148 runs (lead MLB) in 25 gms vs Cubs 27 HRs & 145 runs in 25 gms

Pitching
Dbacks 3.04 era (lowest in MLB) vs Cubs 3.68
Dbacks have given up only 93 runs so far vs Cubs 105
Dbacks Pitchers have given up 86 walks thus far vs Cubs 87
Dbacks Pitchers have 184 SO vs Cubs 177
Opponents are hitting .218 off Dbacks pitching vs Cubs .236
Dbacks pitchers have given up only 18 HR vs Cubs pitchers 24
Dbacks Pitchers have given up only 181 hits vs Cubs 205

Fielding
Dbacks only 16 errors vs Cubs 17 errors both in 25 games

Starting Pitchers
DBacks
Webb 6-0 1.98 era 41IP 34K's 14BB .192 batting avg off him in 6 starts (early CY Young Award favorite)
Haren 3-1 3.03 era 29.2IP 24K's 6BB .241 batting avg off him in 5 starts
Johnson 1-1 2.70 era 16.2IP 20K's 9BB .194 batting avg off him in 3 starts
Owings 4-0 3.48 era 31IP 28K's 9BB .195 batting avg off him in 5 starts

more in next arguement

The record that gets me excited about the Cubs is that they're 10-4 against their division. That just suprises me that they're doing that well against the Cardinals who are 16-10, and the Brewers who are 14-11. The D-backs are also doing well against their division, but no team besides them in the NL West is over .500. The NL Central has 3 teams including the Cubs that are over .500.

The Cubs are **** well against tougher competition.

Let's take a look at the Cubs pitching
Zambrano-4-1 2.32 ERA 32 K's and 9 walks
Lilly 1-4 6.46 ERA 25 K's 13 walks
Dempster 3-0 2.90 ERA 21 K's 14 walks
Hill 1-0 3.79 ERA 14 K's 14 walks
Marquis 1-0 3.47 ERA 15 K's 9 walks.

They're not as good as the Diamondbacks are, but they still have a very solid rotation.

The Cubs Bullpen so far is 8-4, 3.58 ERA, 6 saves, 70 K's, and 26 walks
compared to the D-backs 2-2, 3.06 ERA, 8 saves, 51 K's, and 31 walks. The Cubs have a better bullpen, because of stats, and they're pulling these better numbers than the D-backs with more pressure from their starters who aren't as talented as the D-backs' starters

Bottom Line:
Starting Rotation-D-backs
Bullpen-Cubs

Offense Next

Thanks for doing my next agruement 4 me!
Yes the Dbacks have the Best starting pitching in the NL and agrueably all of baseball.
Their Top 4 SP are a combined 14-2. And the team has only given up 76 Earned Runs. With the A's being the next best at 84...the Cubs 95.

And offense I've already done...

Dbacks have hit 4 more HRs (33 vs 27) & 7 more rbi (142 vs 135) than the Cubs. Dback SLG % is better as well (.465 vs .443). The only Stat that the Cubs are better is batting avg (Dbacks .267 vs Cubs .280).

So there really is no comparion... The Dbacks are the better team & when it's comes down to it the Dbacks are the best team in Baseball right now!
Even my counterpart agrees on that!

My fault, I didn't see it.

D-Backs look scary right now. Webb and Haren are violating line-ups.

April 29, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Announcing that you were originally going to pick Arizona... right after your opponent does... only lends credence to his argument... voting to Foosball on the left...

good luck in the next round Foosball, well argued

I like the cub's offense better than the d-backs.
