List and then argue in 2nd and 3rd arguments.
I'm going with the Chicago Bulls on this one.

I'll take the New Jersey Nets...
its a dumb reason but what the heck....
Cheezhead said 04/28, 05:17 PM
Okay, I'm thinking the Nets were named because the "creator" lacked imagination or just loved nylon.
NJ was named after, well, a basketball net. Is that something that you will get complimented for for being unique? Probably not. I don't know, it's just like naming a NFL team the "goal lines" or the "Goal Posts". Or a MLB team "the Bullpens".
Chicago, this was an original, unique, and very different way of naming a team. I never saw this one any where else. The Bulls were named after original owner Richard Klein's beliefs on what it takes to be successful. I got this from http://www.nba.com/history/team_nicknames.html:
"...He picked the name because the fighting bull had a relentless attitude along with the instinct to never say quit."
"...believed these qualities were essential for a championship club and hoped his Chicago athletes would live up to the team name."
Using beliefs and qualities for character and success is a unique way to name a team. It's like their Team Code that Klein wanted them to follow every day.

Well you are 5% correct, they did make the name the nets, but not becasue the game of basketball was played with one..
It dates back to when the New Jersey nets actually played in New York...
and if you look at the current list of teams in New York you will see the New York Jets, The new York Mets and then moved in from New Jersey was the americans who were renamed to coinside with the rest of the cities teams....
The Nets , the Mets, and The Jets....no if thats not creative then come on! So as you can see it wasn't just named after a piece of the game....you cant really compare it to the goalines or goal posts of other sports BECASUE it wasn't named for the reason of it being a net, but more along the lines that it wanted to connect the cities athletic team names in some way or another...and it did just that.
The Bulls-sounds like some guy had a hard on for the animal and named his team after it
Just kidding....the bulls, is a somewhat creative name...in the end its just a name for an animal...means behind it sounds likea good story in all but at the end of the day it was one man naming his team unlike the Nets who was thinking of their entire state when chosinga name
Cheezhead said 04/28, 09:11 PM
Okay, I admit it. I googled for team name origins for 15+ minutes and the most I found about the Nets is something like "...named after the most important part of a basketball game". Or something like that.
So the Nets were actually named to rhyme with the rest of New York. Got'cha.
They wanted TO FIT IN with the rest of the city.
It really doesn't sound like creative imagination and unique-ness to me. It sounds more like PEER PRESSURE. Didn't those guys that go to schools and say "Don't let peer pressure ruin your life" ever talk to New Jersey's namer?
The Bulls were named after what a guy wanted to see his team do. He saw them like Bulls, never giving up, and had that never-say-die attitude. That's something that everyone wants to see in a team. The Bulls naming isn't just a name. It's a statement.
Tell me where else you can find that.

how-your-nba-team-got-its-handle-part-3/
theres two references...
It is a really unique thing, to have your state come together ....and try and be alike when it comes to sports...following/ or being peer pressured into that name was not how it went down...no one came to them and said you had to rhyme with the other teams...they wanted to be a friendly organization and do it themselves...
and
Besides who wants to be an outcast in their own city? why would you want fans to not like you or your team? No one wants that and im sure that you wouldn't want that for your team...With that being said im sure you can agree then it was a unique thing to name a team after.. a little more unique then someones man love for a bull...Just kidding again, theres good logic behind your, i just think the nets was a little more interesting...
let the voting begin!
