ALL THIS IS COMING FROM A FAN WHO WATCHED ALL 16 GAMES LAST YEAR:
I agree. Matt Ryan was the best qb coming out. The Falcon's are in desperate need of a quarterback. I've never seen a team get screwed by one player like Michael Vick. We let Matt Shaub go to the Texan's because we thought Vick didn't kill any dam* dogs. Anyways, I'm a fan and back to the story. Matt Ryan had a great year last year in the ACC and did not have many targets. Matt Ryan is a the future fo the Falcon's for sure. If we would have gone with Glenn Dorsey we would have Redman and Harrington at the helms. I don't care for either. Redman showed some promise while Harrington managed the games so-so. Matt Ryan was a HUGE step for this team. Quarterback is the main position and the Falcon's needed to start there at quaterback. Personally I liked McFadden but picking up Turner IN in the off season there was no reason to get the great back and have back turmoil. Matt Ryan will improve this team but i only see the falcon's winning one or two more game then last year's terrible dissappointment.

In my opinion, the Falcons have bigger issues than getting a QB. My first argument is that a rookie QB doesn't make a huge impact early (ex. Alex Smith).
By drafting a guy like Dorsey (The guy I will argue for), you can make that defense a step better instantly thanks to the dominant playing status of Dorsey. Dorsey is a guarenteed run stopper and pass rusher in the NFL, however there are numerous example of QB's drafted early who never pan out, which is why it's better to what until later picks to draft a QB.
Matt Ryan will not do well in this offense. This offense will not support anyone, with the lack of recieving talent. Joe Horn is arguably their best reciever, and he won't be there to help Ryan develop in the later years. If you wanted to draft a QB this early, make sure you have some weaponry to help him, plus the Falcons gave up 47 sacks last year, to me Ryan will not develop well in that offense.
Also, for the games Redman did play, he had around a 90 QB rating, for me, he could lead your team during these troubled times. This allows time for the Falcons to get more players who would help a QB.

NO, NO, NO. Joe Horn is the biggest name wr but Roddy White is their best receiver bottom line.
Roddy White: 1,202 75.1 yards a game, and 6 td's. Also he is only 27 years of age.
Joe Horn: 27 receptions and 1 td!
Matt Ryan will have his first year bumps and bruises especially with are o-line but he will be great for the overhaul. I think any rookie quarterback has to get played by the nfl defenses to eventually play solid in the nfl. Glenn Dorsey is a man beast but with Redman and Harrington i don't feel soo great. With Matt Ryan arguably the best qb in the draft we have promise in an area of managing the Falcon's games. Probably not '08 but definetly '09 or 10.

I'll agree Roddy is their best reciever (I forgot, I had him on my fantasy team too, haha).
But that offense is stumbling, past White their isn't a dominant force (Crumpler left), a positive is their running game will get a little better with Turner, but that line and WR core will kill Ryan.
I've watched Baltimore, and when we drafted Kyle Boller, I was pretty excited, but the Raven's weren't ready to get a QB in their ranks, we didn't have the recieving core, and the line was good (Ogden helped a lot), but Boller was thrown into the fire (as Ryan probably will be), and Boller never got to experience and learn the game, there was immense pressure on him, and there will be big pressure on Ryan too.
Dorsey is a safe pick, a dude who is 95% chance of being a good-great player, Ryan is more risky, because we can't always tell how good a QB. And as I said, Dorsey has a bigger impact faster.
I know the LB's for the Falcons aren't the best, but Dorsey can kelp take on linemen, which frees up the LB's to make great plays. That's why Ray Lewis was so great back in his day (2000, prime), he had big DT that cleared obstacles. Dorsey can clear obstacles for that defense.
Peach "HATTON" said 04/28, 04:22 PM
Dorsey is a safe pick your right....The Falcon's are a disaster and to solve a disaster you get a qb. When your in need like the Falcon's you need a qb. We had a trio of qb's with no promise last year. We might have drafted a Ryan Leaf but i don't think so. We have to see how it pans out. With Leftwich, Redman, and Joey Harrington last year I about pulled my hair out. Are coach leaves us during the season and DeAngelo Hall was acting a fool. Dorsey is a monster I agree but when you have 3 qb's who in my opinion could not TAKE any team to the playoffs we need to draft a qb with promise for the FUTURE. we can pick up defensive players anywhere and at any time. qb's are one and a million.

Maybe Ryan is your guy (I hope he is), but there were other guys you could've gotten in the later rounds for example:
Erik Ainge: Not many people are high on him, but he went in the fifth round to the jets, this is more inexpensive than what Ryan would be. This would be a much safer pick, plus he played in the SEC (LSU, Georgie, etc.) and posted good numbers (31 TD's, 10 picks, 3500 yards).
Brian Brohm: Many people's favorite QB when the year started, but his team tanked, Brohm posted up 4000 yards, with 30 TD's and 12 picks.
Chad Henne: The least favorite of the QB's, he played against good defenses (Ohio), but his numbers are weak for his senior year.
Joe Flacco: Another risk, but you could've traded down to get him, and addressed more needs by getting more picks. Flacco has 6 foot 6 inch stature, which allows him to bomb that ball 70 yards downfield. He played in a lesser division though.
The QB's I listed may be as good as Ryan, but didn't get as much publicity, and they would've cost them much less to get. With these QB's they could've addressed other needs.
Or Colt Brenan................did I say that?

I watched every Falcon game too,(I've been a fan since Bad Moon Rison and Deion) and lets start and say Joey sucks, how he's still in the NFL is mystery( he must have an important uncle or something) and it amazes me how people are not giving Redman a chance. Now, what also shocks me is that people aren't realizing how, A. drafting a QB is extremely risky B) if the rest of the team has problems it almost doesn't matter how good the QB is (unless he's a freak like Vick and can almost single-handledly carry a team) you will still suck.
Have you watched Ryan play? I haven't but I do know gauging a QB's talent and how it will transfer to the Pro's is unbelievably hard and nearly impossible. Yes, he has a good arm and is pretty accurate, but how do you gauge his ability to improvise, not get pressured when you're the slowest man on the field, and how will he react to NFL speed. You can't, and that's why its a huge risk. Dorsey on the on other hand, is a easier prediction because his role and skill is easier to translate to NFL skills.

I'm not sold on Ryan. I really believe that the Falcons could have gone with Dorsey. He looks like he will be a monster. The Falcons would have been just fine with Henne or Brohm or even Flacco.

Damn, gonets, why's he gotta be white. Hahaha!
But Matt Ryan = Bust in my opinion. Though I would love to see him prove me wrong. That fact is, Atlanta NEEDED someone like Vick to win. Matt Ryan isn't gonna get W's, and he is not gonna make the fans forget about Vick. Vick was too electrifying and fun to watch. Ryan better be Peyton Manning.
