You may think that soccer is stupid and that Football, Baseball, and Basketball exceed it without question. But before you bias your decision on my opponent, who would most likely pick Jordan or Ruth, read mine.
After browsing through Time Magazine, my perception of Sports was changed. I always thought Pele, and the rest of Soccer was a joke. But when I read this, it amazed me of what he accomplished. "Performance at a high level in any sport is to exceed the ordinary human scale. But Pele's performance transcended that of the ordinary star by as much as the star exceeds ordinary performance. He scored an average of a goal in every international game he played the equivalent of a baseball player's hitting a home run in every World Series game over 15 years. Between 1956 and 1974, Pele scored a total of 1,220 goals not unlike hitting an average of 70 home runs every year for a decade and a half. How do you spell Pele G-O-D. He has been known to stop war: both sides in Nigeria's civil war called a 48-hour cease-fire in 1967 so Pele could play an exhibition match in the capital of Lagos."
I know my argument was an article of Time Magazine, I felt that was the best way to say it.

Jordan or Ruth would have never crossed my mind. And Pele is a good choice, but not the greatest. He comes in a distant 2nd.
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
Nobody was greater than...
Muhammad Ali.
I notice you have a lot of respect for Time Magazine. Being as how your argument it basically a cut an paste from one of their articles, and all.
That being the case, it might interest you to know they did an article on the 100 most influential people of the last century. Pele was indeed on their list. And under the category "Heros and Icons" he finished 17th just behind such people as Mother Teresa and Rosa Parks and ahead of Jackie Robinson. Heady company, indeed.
Ali, however, came in first in that category.
I bring this up, only to point out that the very source you are using as the entirety of your first argument...agrees with me
Ali was universally renown because of an incredible charisma, astounding confidence level, and a talent level to back it all up. He was the complete package. He feared no man nor Government. He said what he believed in and backed it up with action. Ali was everymans champion and easily the Greatest, most renowned sports figure of all time
