Shaq has ruined ANY chance Steve Nash had to win a championship with Phoenix

It's simple...

1. Shaq is untradeable
2. Shaq has 2 years left on his deal...and that deal is so large that it prevents Phoenix from going out and getting a big time player to help them.
3. He is one of the worst fits in an offense that I've ever seen.
4. Steve Nash is 34 and his body is already breaking down.
5. That means he'll be 37 the time he plays without Shaq.
6. Nash's only hope to win a championship is to leave Phoenix or that Shaq retires

Conclusion...Goodbye any championship hope in Phoenix.

I have to disagree with your statement.

Shaq did not ruin Steve Nash's chance of winning a title. The people have had a great misconception if they thought the Suns were gonna win a title before they got Shaq or after.

The Suns style of play is not suited to win an NBA title. EXAMPLE. Don Nelson is considered one of the great coaches, but he has never won a title because that is not the style needed to do so.

The Suns play no defense and it has come to bite them every single year. Amare is a terrible defender. Nash is a terrible defender. You can not win a title when your two best players play no defense.

You act as though the Suns front office would spend money if they had any. Then explain them trading picks for cash almost every year.

The Western Conference is much much better than it was the last 3 years, when the Suns could not win a title. They had trouble with the Lakers when they weren't dominant. The Spurs have always had their number. The Hornets have a guy who can outplay Nash on both sides of the court. Deron Williams is also getting close to that level.

Shaq did not ruin their chances, he was their last hope but they had no chance before the trade.

Let's see, they went to the Western Conference Finals twice with the up-tempo style. And in the Dallas series they won the first game and we're a break or two away from going to the finals. Obviously, that's not winning a championship but if they could get that far then why couldn't they win it all?

Playing their style of basketball was the only way they were going to have a shot this year or in the next two year's. Trying to change your identity and style of play in the middle of the season CERTAINLY wasn't the way to go.

They aren't going to spend money? False. They just did. $20 million a year worth when they brought Shaq over. Imagine if the Suns traded Marion for Udonis Haslem instead...straight up. Then went out and signed Allen Iverson this offseason to play with Nash and Stoudamire.

PG: Steve Nash
SG: Allen Iverson
SF: Grant Hill
PF: Amare Stoudamire
PF: Udonis Haslem

Bench: Diaw, Bell, Barbosa, and Skinner.

That team would have a legitimate shot at winning a title in Phoenix.

This wasn't the spirit of the TD either...it was supposed to be more of a Shaq is good for the Suns verus Shaq is bad for the Suns. But I didn't specify so I'll roll with it.

Damnit. Let me have this one.

He ruined Shawn Marion`s chance,too.

Better argument

Shaq actually fit in quite nicley rebounding and not making much of not getting enough shots

Since basketball is a game of perecentages.......

April 30, 2008  05:27 PM ET

Don't get me started on Shawn Marion. The man had to think when asked would he rather score 30 a night or be a key player on a champion. What a selfish bum, he forced their hand to make this trade in the first place. They had to do something and Kerr went with Shaq, was he wrong, I guess.

April 30, 2008  05:30 PM ET

I was gonna go with about the same arguements as -----> if I could've gotten here first.

My other point is, Steve Nash ruined his chances. He can't play D to save his life. Parker destroys Nash all day.

Shaq didnt ruin anything.....The Suns were never gonna win one anyways.

April 30, 2008  05:39 PM ET

It's not Nash's fault he plays in the time of Duncan. I'm sure Barkley would've had a ring had it not been for Jordan's Era.

It's not Shaq. It's the Suns huge lack of defence.

Nick....thats why you got my vote

shaq helped

May 1, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Shaq helped what? On defense? Don't think so. Rebounding? Don't think so. Scoring? haha Not quite. Winning? Nope.

Exactly HOW did Shaq help??

May 1, 2008  11:10 AM ET

i mean you cant expect the suns to win a championship when they trade that late in the season for shaq. I mean **** the team had no time to build chemistry. And they need a couple of defensive players

May 1, 2008  11:32 AM ET

That's my point! So basically you just said "Shaq gave them 0 shot at winning the championship this year." Last year they could have beaten the Spurs in the Semi's (with the uptempo style) had Stern not overreacted and suspended Amare.

And Nash is at his best when he's in the open floor. Shaq is at his best in the halfcourt. So what gives?

They were a championship CALIBER team before Shaq...they were/are NOT a championship CALIBER team with Shaq.
