First I will argue AL

It is Arod and Vlad vs. Matsui and Hunter

So it is true alex and vlad have been slumpimg but they are still much better players than your two. Here's some numbers from last year: Arod 54 HRs, 156 RBIs, 314 avg, 143 runs and 183 hits; Vlad 27 HRs, 125 RBIs, 324 avg, 89 runs and 186 hits. Matsui 25 Hrs, 103 rbis, 285 avg, 100 runs and 156 hits ; Hunter 28 Hrs, 107 rbis, 287 avg, 94 runs and 172 hits. Sure those are last years stats but these stats tell a lot. For both of are picks the avg is pretty but my guys have more pop and drive in more runs. Matsui and Hunter may be off to a hot start but A-rod and Vlad are just better all around hitters and players.

AL goes to me Arod and Vlad > Matsui and Hunter

Not this season it won't! Arod isn't even the best player on his team this season. Last year was a career CONTRACT year for him. He is in for a big letdown year this year now that he's got his big fat contract. Plus he's on the DL now. Pitchers will pitch around him when there are guys on base in front of him which will severly cut down on his RBI #'s.
The same goes for Vlad. He is really struggling with injuries so far this year and opposing pitchers are not pitching to him.
Let's look at the #'s so far...

Matsui... 4HR 13 RBI .322 avg .511 SLG 29 hits 5 doubles 10 K's
ARod... 4HR 11 RBI .286 avg .495 SLG 26 hits 19K's

Cabrera & Matsui are leading the offense for the Yanks right now
And if they pitch around ARod then they have to pitch to guys like Matsui.

Hunter... 4HR 16RBI .305 avg 32 hits 9 doubles .524 SLG
Vlad.. 3HR 14RBI .271avg 29 Hits 6 doubles .430 SLG 19K's

It's guys like Kotchman, Hunter & Figgins who are leading the Angels offense right now. Again Vlad is going to be pitched around & Hunter will have to be pitched to.

For your arguement you say that Vlad and Arod will be pitched around. Haven't they always been pitched around. I mean it is not like the pitchers over night just decided to pitch around them. These are players who have been pitched around for years and have still had great success. So don't just say they are going to be pitched around and won't get a lot of Hrs or RBIs. No these are players who despite being pitched around have had phenomenal success.

Also you make a point about arod being on the DL. Arod normally plays a lot of games ( at least compared to Matsui). In the past 6 years Arod has played in 814 while matsui has played in 707. Sure those are old stats but it tells a very important thing. Arod is less injury prone than Matsui. The mvp award is given to the player who is most valuable to his team. Last time I checked you're more valuable to your team if you play in a lot of games

Sorry but I'm running out of room, still Arod and Vlad > Matsui and Hunter!

MVP is for this season not last season...You can't go on stats and trends from last season.
Arod will only have an average year now that he's in a new contract plus he is on the DL... AROD and Vlad aren't even the MVP's for their own teams at this point...Lets look at NL differences..

Chipper Jones Braves .410 BA (1st in MLB) 8HR 21RBI 41hits .690SLG
Chase Utley Phillies .360BA 11HR (1st in MLB) 23 RBI 40Hits .766SLG
David Wright Mets .281BA 4HR 23 RBI 27hits 10 doubles 1 triple 4SB .531SLG
Derrek Lee Cubs .364BA 8HR 23 RBI 40 Hits .682SLG

Vs
Prince Fielder .250 4hr 20 rbi 23 hits
Matt Holliday .303 4hr 14 rbi 21 K's simular #'s to Garrett Atkins .319 6hr 21rbi
Ryan Howard .172BA 5hr 12 rbi 17 hits & 38K's .343SLG
Jimmy Rollins .308BA 2HR 12 hits 2 doubles .513SLG

Howard and Rollins aren't even the MVP for their own team (Phillies) at this point and are being far outplayed by Utley.

None of your guys have MVP #'s... And Your 3 biggest omissions are Chipper Jones Braves, Chase Utley Phillies & Derrek Lee Cubs who look like are going to have career years this season. And if their teams make the playoffs it will only improve their MVP chances.

Atlanta, fan I assume

Can't argue this years MVP based on last years stats! Will wait for final arguments, but so far leaning Heavily to the Right.

That is true but it is so early in the season you have to look at recent success too.

Report Offensive Comment

right now Utley and Lee are very strong contenders, left listed niether, vote right----------------------------->

Report Offensive Comment

You gotta have Chase Utley on your list. He's making a strong case for himself so far. I gotta vote right.

Report Offensive Comment

i cant see matsui winning anything

Guy on left never justifies using last year's stats. MVP is usually (as far as I know) based on the CURRENT year's stats.
