Tom Glavine needs to retire

I know it's early to say this, but to me it looks like his game is off. He's only 0-1 this year, but he has started 4 games. So far he only has eight strikeouts in his four games. His ERA is 2.60, which really isn't that bad. He was on the DL recently, and to me it seems like he won't remain healthy this year. In all, I truely believe that things will probably just go down hill for the 42-year old from here.

1. You say that it looks like to you that his game is off but you said that he has a 2.6 ERA not real off type of pitching. If he was going 5+ERA right now then maybe he should retire but 2.6 is pretty good.

2. You point out that that he doesn't have many strikouts but he never has been a big strikout pitcher. His game has been getting outs via ground and air not the K. As you get older also it is harder to strikout because fastball isn't the same.

3. He went on the DL sure but he does not have a injury history so it isn't that big of a deal. There is no way to know if he will be able to keep healthy but a good basing is health history which is amasing for Glavine.

From what I have seen of Glavine pitched, it doesn't seem like he is as good a pitcher as even last year. He seems like he's lost something, but I'm not sure what. If Smoltz is hurt and the younger pitchers have to step in, Glavine will definately need to be at the top of his game if the Braves want to be contenders, and I just don't see that being possible.

From what I have seen of Glavine pitched, it doesn't seem like he is as good a pitcher as even last year- Who are you to judge how well a guy looks while pitching. Since you are an average fan and not a baseball expert what you think is irrevelent. As average fans not scouts all we can do is to look at the numbers and a 2.6 ERA looks pretty convincing to me

2. Even if Smoltz is hurt or becomes a clsoser they still have Hudson as the number 1 man. Glavine would have to be a two and the other young guys would follow like he was in Mets last year.

3. Glavine will definately need to be at the top of his game if the Braves want to be contenders, and I just don't see that being possible. - He will be able to get a below 5 ERA even maybe below 4 and that will get the Braves wins. Just because he is not an ace anymore means he should retire

Can you find anything else that convinces u that Glavine is good BESIDES his 2.60 ERA? I think that his start this year is decent, but I've got a feeling that he will wilter soon and will struggle this whole year.

Once again you talk about what you fell but guess what you don't matter in his decision to retire or not and that 2.6 ERA is part of the only thing normal fans like you and me can use to judge a player

Wait til the season turns out. A lot of times pitchers just are on bad streaks. Doesnt mean his bad run is neccesarily because of his age. It might just be taking him a lil longer to get back in the swing.

He has a 2.60 ERA why retire if he still is dominant.

KG Fan, are you quoting the song "Tessie"?

ERA isn't the main factor when determining retirement. Because if it was, there's a hundred or so that should hang it up right now....... Health, IS a factor. Remember Koufax? Still, Glavine is good enough that he can still play. Vote ---->

Retirement is decided by,

Tom Glavine never really was considered a "strike out" pitcher. He should play until he decides not to. He's earned that much.
