Based on stats as red sock

C- Carlton Fisk
1B- Jimmie Foxx
2B- Bobby Doerr
SS- Nomar Garciaparra
3B- Wade Boggs
OF- Ted Williams
OF- Carl Yastrzemski
OF- Jim Rice
DH- (pure DHs)- David Ortiz

SP-Roger Clemens
SP- Cy Young
SP- Joe Wood
SP- Pedro Martinez
SP- Luis Tiant

(SP were in no order)

CP- Jonathan Papelbon (will explain)

First, put Manny Ramirez in place of Jim Rice.

Then replace Luis Tiant with Babe Ruth, and Jonathan Papelbon with... wait, as ludicrous as it sounds, Jonathan Papelbon.

Well...

Should be interesting.

Manny Ramirez vs Jim Rice

Rice
2452 hits
373 2Bs
79 3Bs
382 HRs
1451 RBIs
.298 BA

Manny
1159 hits
243 2Bs
7 3Bs
260 HRs
820 RBIs
.314 BA

All that manny has is a slightly better BA

Well, Guthrie, here's the deal.

Manny's played 7 1/2 seasons in Boston, to Rice's 16, so basically double Ramirez's statistics for a rough estimate.

Then throw in the fact that Ramirez has won more Silver Sluggers (6) than Rice (2) in 1/2 the time.

Add on top the fact that Ramirez has made an All-Star game in each season in Boston and that Rice only made eight in his sixteen years, and I win that argument by a longshot.

In Ruth's 5 full seasons as a pitcher in Boston, his ERA was never higher than 2.97. He had an 89-46 record in 1190 1/3 innings pitched (over a five year span, no less), appearing in 158 games.

He had a legendary season in 1917. He appeared in 41 games, started 38 of those, and completed 35 of them. That's right. 35 complete games in one season. He had a WHIP of 1.08, an ERA of 2.01 and did this pitching 326 1/3 innings.

NOTE TO VOTERS: Guthrie and I are using achievements in BOSTON ONLY.

Forfeited Turn

Oh, best thing about using Babe Ruth as a pitcher? You get to DH for someone else! Or, in this case, just not use the DH at all. Interesting thought? I think so. I'd sure like to see Luis Tiant go up there and smack a bunch of home runs.

Good luck Guthrie.

Same to you Hemo

Manny certainly needs to be on this list. But I'm surprised you both took Paps over Dennis Eckersley.

No Lefty Grove, Tris Speaker, or Luis Aparicio?

I'll wait for arguments.

Ditto. Waiting for arguments before voting.

Here's the thing. I took as many players as I could based on their accomplishments WITH the Red Sox.

Vote to the right. Better arguments.
