Right now he is batting 310 with 27 hr and 73 rbi the only other righty that would be comprable would be one of joe ds years but he didnt have the hrs so arod is gonna get the vote here and as a yankee fan hopefuly he continues his onslaught on mlb pitching

First of all, what a total cop-out by specifying right handed hitters. That rules out Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig... anyway being on pace to do something is a LOOOOONG way from actually doing it. There's someone "on pace" to do something every year.

But to get back to the actual point, DiMaggio had several seasons that Arod won't even come close to beating this year.

Arod is doing something special here and i specify right handers bec yankee stadium is a park built for left handers so it is harder for a righty to have a great season here especialy for hrs. But i said hes on pace im not saying its deffinite and dimmagio never put up numbers like arod is on pace for 65 hrs and 170 rbis that would be unreal and he would be the first since maris to hit 60 hrs clean without steroids.

Well let me point out something else he's on pace for. He's on pace to get struck out 130 times. Joltin Joe never, NOT ONCE struck out in an entire season more than 39 times. I for one take that kind of thing into account when analyzing greatness. That's 3.33 times as many K's as Joe got in his worst season. Also, here's the season that I think is historically the greatest for Joe:

H: 215 3B: 15 2B: 35 HR: 46 RBI: 167 TB: 418 SO: 37 AVG. 346

so arod is on pace to hit 310 lets say could be better with 65 hrs and over 170 rbis so thts a better run production therefore more production for his team therefore better season.

I think Arod's shot his wad this year. Quite frankly right now if I needed a clutch hit I'd rather have Posada at the plate. If he gets to 170 RBI I'll **** own shoes. There's no way he beats out Joe's 167. Also, in 1939 he hit 381. 381!!!!

How many other hitters have done better than 381 since then (other than Ted Williams) Batting average is the biggest indicator of how great a hitter is, and Arod is nowhere near Joe DiMaggio in terms of batting average. He's only hitting 310 for crying out loud!

he didnt say he would have the best season, he just said is on pace for, thats all. You cannot deny that he is on pace for 60+ hr and 160 rbi. DiMaggio never came close to that.

June 18, 2007  02:18 PM ET

I say he is ahead of the pace, and I think that is the only argument you can make, you can't yell at him for crafting a good argument, although ti really limits what you can argue...go with he's ahead of the pace

June 18, 2007  02:18 PM ET

His second year in the league he hit 46 HR and got 167 RBI's, so I beg to differ. He also had a MUCH better AVG. and got fewer strikeouts all year long than Arod has right now... but I suppose I can wait for this guy to post another argument before I whip out the back-breaking stats.

It isn't all about home runs you know

June 18, 2007  02:25 PM ET

fun gets my vote only because they talked about this on mike and mike. be original

June 18, 2007  02:26 PM ET

fung, it isn't a cop-out. He specified what it was he wanted. You can't cop out on your first argument on your own throwdown.

June 18, 2007  02:29 PM ET

ARod also has 70 RBIs right now...you're right, it's not all about the homers...if more Yanks were on base more earlier in the season, he'd have more RBIs...he's hitting .310 w/ RISP... .571 with bases loaded. .500 w/runners on 2nd and 3rd... and .625 w/runners on 1st and 3rd..

June 18, 2007  02:30 PM ET

actually, he has 73 RBI right now

June 18, 2007  02:30 PM ET

sorry, 73 RBIs...and all this in 67 games...

June 18, 2007  02:30 PM ET

He may be on pace for a great year, but if he goes 0-4 one day Bankee fans will still boo him

June 18, 2007  02:30 PM ET

a-rods on pace to being the best hitter of all time

June 18, 2007  02:31 PM ET

To be honest, the right-handed specification annoyed me a bit. Part of the reason I accepted this one. I suppose I could start a throwdown saying Omar Vizquel is the greatest switch-hitting shortstop that played for both the Indians and Giants and has the initials O.V.

June 18, 2007  02:32 PM ET

so forfeit stop complaining and then if u want make that throwdown

June 18, 2007  02:37 PM ET

#1 Not forfeiting
#2 I can complain if I want to
#3 That throwdown would be ridiculous

June 18, 2007  02:40 PM ET

'To be honest, the right-handed specification annoyed me a bit.'

'Well, it was right handed hitter in Yankee history...and that's important because that park is tougher for right handed power hitters than left handed power hitters'

June 18, 2007  02:46 PM ET

Actually, the guy said that ARod is "on pace", and he's right. if he keeps up the current pace, it will be better than anything Joe D ever did. I'll gladly trade those strikeouts to Joe D's ground and fly outs.

I agree that A-Rod should have one of the best all time seasons for a right hander. But fungushnitzel, I would not leave out Mantle because if you remember he was a switch hitter and not just a lefty.

June 18, 2007  02:51 PM ET

Hmm, good point...

But Mantle did most of his damage as a lefty...most switch hitters bat primarily lefty...that's why switch hitters get grouped in with lefties...

Kills you Yankees fans that ARod is so good...only team in sports that complains about having a sure fire hall of famer on their team...
