Brett Favre should not have been the cover boy of madden

now i know this topic has already been argued but i didnt think the arguments were as good.

The reasons Brett Favre should not be on the cover of Madden this year are very simple

1.) he's not an active player anymore and since the days of Madden himself not grazing the cover, it has always been active players and should always be active players.

2.) there were players who deserved it more. What about Adrian Peterson? Rookie sensation who put together a great year and pretty much carried the vikings on his back along with the D-line and backup running back Chester Taylor. Or how about Tom Brady or Randy Moss? both broke the record for TD's in a single year at their respective position and leading the Patriots to a undefeated season, the first since the Dolphins. Or finally, even Eli Manning would have been a better fit. Leading his 8-8 team to not only a Super Bowl win this year over the undefeated Patriots, but leading his team to 6 straight road wins which is incredible.

I completely agree with Brett Favre being on the cover of 09 for a couple of reasons

1) Brett Favre was one of the most beloved sports figures of all time, arguably the most beloved NFL player of the past decade. He was the face of the most storied franchise in football, and he set almost every important passing record there is. When he retired the entire state of Wisconsin was in mourning, as if someone they loved had died

2) Who else do you think deserved it. Sure, Pederson had an incredible rookie season, but he missed nearly half the season with injuries. Not only that, how did the Vikings finish again? O yeah, 8-8 and out of the playoffs. Brady and Moss had incredible seasons, but outside of New England the Patriots are despised by almost everybody, and EA sports didn't want to put a hated athlete on the cover. Why do you think Barry Bonds never made a cover? Favre had a HUGE impact on the season, He led a team that finished 8-8 the previous year to an incredible 13-3 campaign, and finished just short of the Super Bowl

3) I think for EA Sports sake this was a great idea. The Madden Curse can be put to rest for good, so now popular athletes won't be afraid to be cover boy

Referring to a comment below being on the cover of Madden really is an honor in itself. It has become more than just a video game. if it was just a video game Sportscenter would not eb interviewing people who have amde the cover or publicly announcing who made it. U dont see sportscenter interviewing Chris Paul about being on the cover of NBA 2K8.

Now abck t the topic at hand. U mention they didn't put Brady or Moss on the cover because they're hated athletes? On what evidence are u absing this? the team teh patriots are hated, but i highly doubt that Tom Brady and Randy Moss aren't widely liked. Tom Brady is everything u want to represent if you're a quarterback. Professional, keeps his name out of the news, the best at what hed oes, and he cares about the team. Tom Brady is not hated and would have been a great choice for the cover. And to correct u, the reason Barry Bonds never appeared on a video game is because All-Star baseball(which is now MLB 2K8) is always represented by Derek Jeter and Barry Bonds could not be om the other games cuz he never signed his contract to be on them. He's not even on the game period!

Since you agree that the Patriots are the most hated team in the NFL, wouldn't that make their star players some of the most hated players in the league as well? I don't know where you have been since you say you doubt Brady is disliked. People HATE Brady due to his cocky demeanor, as well as his off the field issues with impregnating ex girlfriends. Moss has been disliked for years due to his "playing when he wants to" attitude, smoking marijuana, walking off the field (a la Belichick) before a game was over, and his mooning the crowd in Green Bay. With the whole spygate controversy, I highly doubt that the Madden producers would want cheaters gracing their cover.

Anyway, you failed to mention at all why Favre SHOULDN'T be on the cover for Madden 09. All you did was try to explain why Brady and Moss aren't disliked.

rstowe...what does it matter? and don't cite total count as some sort of prerequisite to being taken seriously. In my opinion, the more you're on here, the less you're contributing to anything resembling the description "productive".

im not dissing the guy lol i'm just stating he wasnt right for the cover THIS YEAR...thers plenty of other years he could have been on the cover.
the guy is one of the best quarterbacks to ever live

I like Favre on the cover but there were more deserving players to be considered. At least maybe now we won't have to hear about the Madden Curse anymore. Or at least here's hoping we won't.

The problem with all of these Madden cover TD's is twofold.

1) It's a video game. What the heck does "deserves to be" have to do with a video game cover? It's not an award, folks.
2) The cover isn't arbitrary. EA Sports can't just have a corporate meeting and decide they are going to put so and so on the cover. It's an advertising contract, that's it. Brett Favre on the cover is no different than Brett Favre doing a McDonalds commercial.

Brett Favre is on the cover because he was PAID to be on the cover, not because he did or didn't "deserve" to do an advertisement for a video game.
