Even though they went 8-8 last season that isnt that bad for the shedule thay had (one the toughest in the nfl). They had a pretty good season. But with off season moves ,probably the biggest in this years offseason with the addition of Asante Samuel ( the best coner in the league), not to mention chris clemons who had 8 sacks. They lost basically no one to FA other thomas tepah who is a pretty good FB but got dan klecko as a FB so it evened out. lets start with QB d-macc is better than most people think. in 14 games he had 19 TDs and 7 ints not bad. he still is probably better then half the QBs in the NFL. Then RB well not much to say B-west is one of the best in the business by far with over 1300+ and 90 receptions yeah he is a beast. Also with one of the best O-lines in the league (besides the fact they gave a lot of sacks because D-macc never throughs it but that can change with simple coaching). Then comes WRs the semi problem even though kevin curtis`s stats are actually very good and reggie brown is a pretty good reciever. we got desean jackson which i am not sayin is the call from the heavens but greatly improves the KR, PR. and provides explosiness along w/ lorenzo booker

The Eagles could definately make the playoffs, considering the offseason moves and the addition of Asante Samuel, but other teams in the NFC also improved. So the question is, are there six teams in the NFC, right now that are better than the Eagles? The answer is yes. First and foremost, the NFC has the returning SuperBowl champs and the only team to beat the undefeated Pats last year. The Giants now have the SuperBowl experience and no major changes to the roster going into next season. There are rumors regarding Strahan, but the more than likely, he returns, just as Osi Umenyiora. Plus the Giants proved they have some pretty good D-Line guys coming off the bench if needed. Another team with few significant changes are the Cowboys. Granted the team added PacMan Jones, which may be a good or bad thing, but regardless, with the roster as currently constituted, the Cowboys are in.
Division winners are guaranteed a playoff spot. The NFC West will be won by either Seattle or Arizona, as STL and SF have not done enough to go from bottom feeder to Div. Winner. The NFC South is up for grabs with 3 possible winners, but regardless there are 4 teams in. Fri NFC No and West.

we are better then the bucs, panthers, saints, falcons, lions, bears, 49ers,rams, redskins and about even with the packers (after the loss of farve) cardinals, vikings. since most of those teams played much easier schedules then us packers, for one and the vikings and the cardinals. the freak r u talikin about the giants had the worst offseason out of all the teams in the nfc losin both startin LBs and gibril wilson and you said it yourself both DEs might not even come back some "major changes to the roster" as you put it bad ones for sure. the cowboys are the best but in recent years we have had great success, the seahawks r also very good but not patriots and have weaknesses. other then that not any teams r realy good. and besides that argument sucked u dont even no football.you named teams that sucked to beat them.
JDEnquist said 05/02, 05:28 PM
First, I was wrong. There may not be six teams better than the Eagles in the NFC. However, the situation is actually worse for the Eagles playoff chances. With DAL or NYG set to win the East and the other set for a wildcard spot, and the div champs in the West, North and South all getting guaranteed spots, PHI is fighting with other hungry teams for one wildcard spot. So who are those hungry teams: SEA, ARIZ, PHI, WAS, CAR, NO, TB, and GB. Either CAR or NO wins the South, and either SEA or ARIZ wins the west. Assuming NO and SEA win their division, PHI is fighting with WAS, CAR, ARIZ, TB and the outside chance of GB. Sports4Life cited the ease of the upcoming PHI schedule, which may be the case, but I make the case for an NFC team that may not be better than, but due to schedule and division, may finish higher than the Eagles in the WC standings. The AZ Cards, who have 3 tough games with one each against NYG (PHI has them 2x), DAL (PHI has them 2x), and NE (which PHI doesn???t play). ARI may not be better, but they have talent and a weaker schedule in a weaker division, getting SF and STL 2x. I???d rather go 2x at SF and STL than 2x at NYG and DAL. AZ has the easier road to the WC.

No offense but your arguments suck your obviously not even reading my arguments because everything u said is wrong the eagles can beat the cardinals they dont have a freakin QB the giants arent that good they werent the best team in NFL last year not even top 5 the eagles will finish 2 in the division with the giants being a realy close 3 and the redskins not making the playoffs going about 8-8 and in 4. the division winners will be cowboys, bucs, seahawks, vikings leaving the wilcard spot open for most likely the eagles after a great offseason and either the cardinals or the giants most likely the giants but you got to be kidding the eagles a lot of talent do yourself a favor next time go to ESPN.com and look up the eagles depth chart we a top ten defense and offense as of last year plus with more weapons on both sides of the ball look for a very good team in 08.
JDEnquist said 05/03, 07:52 PM
ARI has Leinart & until McNabb can stay healthy for a season, he's not going to help PHI. I didn't name teams to beat PHI, I named teams that had easier schedules to finish with better record. If you're going to cite ESPN, maybe looking up the recent draft analysis might also help you a little, where PHI got the worst grade in the NFC (C+).
CAR for example, may not be a better team, but I they don't play the Eagles. In fact, they play 5 games against last years playoff teams, two are TB with another one w/ GB, both may not make the playoffs. CAR has two tough games (NYG and SD), but has a cakewalk schedule with DET, CHI, KC, OAK, GB & 2 at ATL. They may not be more talented than PHI but their schedule is an easy road to the WC.
Your statement for the TD is that the Eagles make the playoffs, not that they are a talented team capable of winning. The fact of the matter is they won't make the playoffs because other teams have an easier road.
PHI is a talented team, they just happen to be the victims of a tough division and more difficult schedule than ARI or CAR. Plus if PHI were to drop an early game, say to WAS, that will be difficult to overcome, & they make may changes.

McNabb is definately better than 1/2 the QB's, but that statement about Samuel being the best corner in football is an overstatement. I would rather have Antonio Cromarte. Samuel was on a pats team that makes its cornerbacks look better than they actually are.

three teams are going to make the playoffs from the nfc east Giants, Cowboys and the Eagles because they got better with samuel and to GaretJax he had two great years and yes because the teams against the patriots culdnt run and had to pass so samuel knew wut was coming doesn't mean he is overated he is the second best cb

If Samuel is a truly great CB, he picks off the pass thrown right at him in the SuperBowl, rather than use his brick hands. He makes that pick, he gets his ring. Great CB's make that pick. Doesn't mean he isn't really good, just means he's not great!

i have to vote in favor of eagles making the playoffs, not because im an eagles fan but because JDEnquist said there were 6 teams better then the eagles in the NFC. Id like to know who might those be other then Giants and cowboys????? You can try to say green bay??? but you cant because they dont have favre anymore and you dont know yet what you get with rodgers, You can try to say the saints oh yeah we beat them last year and they have a horrible pass defense. you can maybe say minnesota but Tavaris jackson hasnt show me anything yet, And if you dont have a qb you cant win a superbowl, no matter how good your supporting cast is!! look at the ravens, arguably the most overall talented team in the nfl but they have no qb. And Minn pass defense is week. Who else is there tampa....lol hahah thats a joke no recivers no solid running back and they had one of the easiest schedules in existence last year, i think they beat 2 teams with over .500 record. The only other team that you can say is maybe better would be seattle, but the last 2 times seattle has played us Mcnabb was hurt and they beat us both times. They are a good team though. So as far as i can count i only count 3!! Eagles offense was ranked 6th last year and defense was ranked 10th. Couple more turnovers we would have been in the playoffs. And thats why we brought in Samuel. And samuel didnt drop that pass in the superbowl it was off his fingertips, He didnt jump high enough!

seriously though.. i know i am a homer, but look at the eagles schedule... they will win 10 games this year.. they will make the playoffs.. the north is in disarray chicago no qb, same for minn.. i dont care how good a.p. is without a qb he will take a beating.. and g.b no qb.. i dont even need to mention the lions..
the south.. dont need to talk about any of these teams... n.o. wins that division tampa goes back to a 7-9 team as they are..
the west... i seriously think if the rams are healthy they can win it.. seattle is in for some hard times... their defense is pretty good, but no running game..
the east is stacked.. any of those 4 teams would run away with north or south... and they will put 3 teams in the playoffs for the 3rd straight year

and JD if you did your math right you would know there are 2 wild card teams... you mentioned either cowboys or giants and the 4 division winners.... thats 5 teams... the eagles would make 6!!!!!

B-Dawk,
Thanks for the comments. I intended for the Division winners and the Giants/Cowboys to be stand alone arguments. The Eagles don't need to be in the top 6, when factoring in division winners, but they will compete for 1 WC spot with several other hungry and improved teams.
I expect to address that in my next argument.
Thank you, though, and I don't mind homers, they make the games and the TD's fun.

The Giants may have had a bad off-season, but Eli Manning is still there, right? The still have a good TE crew? The Superbowl champs return their RB's right? And as I stated in my previous argument, the G-men can withstand the loss of one of the front 4 on the D-Line. But even if they did lose both, they have Tollefson and Tuck to replace both, forming a very capable front four. The Defensive Line was the heart of the Giant defense. Teams can win games with a mediocre linebacking core, provided they get the production and the pressure from the front 4, in the case of the Giants. Example, the Patriots have an aging linebacking core and with the exception of A. Thomas, they really weren't that great, but they get production from their front three. Another example, the Giants, who may or may not be without 2 of their front four, got to Tom Brady in the Superbowl and generally dominated the Pats great front line, with only their front four. Despite the rumors, Umenyiora and Strahan both return.
I realize you're a Philly fan, but look at it from an outsider's eye. You spoke of the ease of the Philly schedule, and cite in your last argument that the records of many of the teams last year were inflated due to poor schedules. Well look at the easy schedules of Carolina and Arizona. Both may not be better than the Eagles talent wise and may lose 3 of 4 or 6 of 7 in a head to head match, but they don't play head to head. They play the scheduled assigned by the league. Philly has a worse schedule than both Carolina and Arizona.

Apparently typing your argument in word and copy and pasting doesn't work to well. The arguments may be slightly more difficult to read, but the ideas are the same.

Carolina panthers- overall offense 29th overall defense 16th
Arizona cardinals- overall offense 12th overall defense 17th
I dont like talking about schedules because teams make offseason moves and add during the draft, so you really dont know how good they are gonna be the next year anything can happen, witch brings me to my next point
Philly eagles- overall offense 6th, overall defense 10th
Eagles will almost have all the same roster and have made additons to make the team better (asante samuel) Witch in my mind makes our secondary the best in the nfl, lito sheppard 2 pro bowls, asante i think 3 pro bowls (at least 2), and sheldon brown bottom line on verge of pro bowl and lays out big hits ( sorry reggie bush)
Now the question i ask you what has Arizona done to make themselves a better team??? Nothing they loose there best linebacker, they have anquan boldin who isnt happy with his contract situatin and asked the team for a trade.
What has carolina done to make themselves a better team?? I rest my case

So eagles20, you don't like discussing schedules because teams make offseason moves, etc., yet then you turn around and cite the Eagles had teh 6th overall offense and 10th overall defense. Then cite the statistics for both Carolina and Arizona. SO it is not okay to discuss schedules because of the variability in the offseason moves, but the numbers that have the Eagles ranked 6/10th respectively were put up against the teams on the schedule that they played last year. Do you see where I'm going. The Eagles, Cards and Panthers put up those rankings against the teams they played on the changing schedule. There is variability and it is important to point out.
The Eagles are no doubt a talented team, and they would easily win the NFC West, NFC North, or NFC South, but the play in the NFC East with two more dominant or talented teams. They are the victims of the NFL schedule and division play. They have a pretty easy schedule, granted, but not as easy as the Panthers or the Cardinals. What makes the Cardinals or Panthers schedule easier? They play in divisions with weak teams that they get two shots at, where Philly has to go head to head against the defending SB Champs and a very good Dallas team, two times a piece. Unfortunately for Philly, they are in a more difficult division and will likely be faced fighting for one playoff spot with teams that have easier roads to the wildcard.

What did Arizona do to get better? Matt Leinart is more settled at the QB position, they have a serviceable running game and one of the most talented receiving corps in the NFL. They also drafted a CB that will step in and help the defense right away in Rodgers-Cromartie. Anquan Boldin has also attempted to squash trade rumors either because they aren't true or the team/agent want to increase the value, and one sure way to increase value is to increase production, so look for him to step up an already good game to a higher level.
What did the Panthers do to get better? The Panthers have been plagued by injuries, particularly to Delhomme at QB. In fact, he is the guy on offense you have to be the most concerned about, as he is going to be coming off Tommy John surgery, the first QB to do so in the NFL. He's a huge variable, but in preparation for fewer throws and more runs, the Panthers upgraded there O-Line and drafted Jonathan Stewart as a running back. They also picked up a talented TE in the draft Gary Barnidge. They aren't sexy players with the name recognition but will aide the Panthers greatly in protected Delhomme and improving the running game/power football style.
The Eagles needed help with their D-Line and got a little with Trevor Laws, but they also took large gambles on DeSean Jackson to help a weaker receiving group and on Ikegwuonu who won't even see the field this year at the CB position. They added Samuel, sure, but may still subtract Sheppard. And just as Carolina has an question mark at QB, so does Philly. McNabb is a talent and a great arm, but injuries have plagued him, and this year may be no different.
Again the Eagles are talented and with some breaks, grit, luck, etc. they may even win the division, but as of now, I'd put better odds on Arizona and Carolina, with a big part of that due to division play.

But one has to think, with Carolina passing on a QB with the talent in this draft, they may not be worried with Delhomme at all. In fact they also added WR DJ Hackett and Mushin Muhammed to Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett, which, like Arizona, is a scary receiving corps.
