As a crazy Detroit sports fan, I can tell you alot about the Pistons. Flip Saunders is a good coach, but he never really has gotten the Pistons motivated or consistant. He has reportedly been linked to the Mavericks job and also several other teams. If the Pistons are looking for a coach after this season ends, I think that they should look no further than there own front office. I think that Joe Dumars would be a perfect fit for this team. He is a terrific judge of talent and character, and seems to find the players that imulate him when he was a player. He knows how to win, and has won as a player and a executive. He would keep this team motivated and also win on a more consistant basis. Joe, if Flip chooses to coach elswhere next year, please hire you as coach!!!

I don't think that Dumars would fit the team at all. I could see Mike D'Antoni fitting the scheme or even a Rick Carlisle comeback. But Dumars if comfortable in the GM spot and he has never coached a team before so to come back and coach one of the best teams in the NBA would be a bad decision for the Pistons. However if they hired Carlisle they would keep the same style of offense that they have right now and also have a new coach but if they hired D'Antoni he could get the tempo going and the Pistons fit that scheme to.

D'Antoni is a great coach and he will be a terrific fit for some team, but not this one. The reason that Joe would work out well is because he molded this team around the way that Chuck Daly coached. And why would Rick Carlisle be a good fit here? Did you even watch a game that he coached in Detroit? There is a reason that no team has won on a consistant basis with Carlisle coaching. He was a great assistant coach but has proven absolutely nothing as a head coach. His offense is boring to watch and has absolutely no running and gunning at all. It is a stale form of half court which is easy to defend. Mike D'Antoni's schemes would work if this team was set up to run his offense but its not. They are slow but powerful upfront and would tire quickly with this style. Close, but no cigar. Joey D would take this team to the promiseland!!!

Well Joe Dumars may take the team to the promised land within the next 50 years but he'll lose most of the fan power while he does. Really they need a coach that will get the team running. They have great runners like Billups, Hamilton, and Prince, and the only two upfront that can't run are McDyess and Ratliff. The rest can run with the team and they have great endurance. Yes I watched a game that Carlisle coached and he coached them well for the first two years. I just don't see Dumars being the coach because the Pistons are so experienced and he is so inexperienced.

But the one thing that you don't see is the fact that Joe D is there in practices and run throughs and he knows this team from front to back. You say that our big men can run, but you don't know that. It has been widely circulated that the reason Jason Maxiel and Amir Johnson are not ready to be starters is the fact that they tire easily and usually are riding the pine against teams like Phoenix and LA Lakers. Yes, our guards and some forwards can run and gun, but that is the case on every team. There are probably some coaches out there that could do a very good job and maybe even win the Pistons a ring or two more with this squad, but I honestly think that the best fit for these guys is Joe Dumars. On FSN Detroit, I've seen 3 of the up close and personals with Billups, Hamilton and Prince. They all 3 have credited Joe Dumars with their success in their careers and if you remember correctly, Billips was on 6 teams in 7 years before coming to the Pistons and learning how to be a true point guard from none other than Joey D. Is it making more sense yet?

Carlisle? Haha! That would be something else. I'm not laughing at him, because he's a good coach. But to go back after getting the shaft?
Also, I have to address something said in Argument 1: "As a crazy Detroit sports fan, I can tell you alot about the Pistons. Flip Saunders is a good coach, but he never really has gotten the Pistons motivated or consistant."
Doesn't that mean he's NOT a good coach?
