We'll list first and argue in the 2nd and 3rd boxes.

I'll say Chris Paul.

I know I will lose this throwdown because everyone loves Chris Paul, but, I will go with who I think is the best player of the first round:

Dwight Howard.

Here's some stats for you.

Chris Paul in playoffs: PPG-24.6
Dwight Howard: PPG-22.6

Chris Paul: FT%-81.1%
Dwight Howard: 56.8%

Obviously Paul has more steals
Obviously Howard has more blocks/rebounds

Chirs Paul: Assists-12
Dwight Howard-1.6

Chris Paul: Fouls-3.4
Dwight Howard-4

Chris Paul: Turnovers-1.2
Dwight Howard-3.6

Chris Paul scores better, is a better team player, and doesn't get rid of the ball. Howard is good, but Paul has done better this round.

"Obviously Howard has more blocks/rebounds"

Why don't you show the actual stats? Oh yeah, because you're embarrassed at how much Howard demolishes Paul in those categories. Let's take a look at the real stats(higher is Howard):

RPG:
18.2 to 5.6

BPG:
3.8 to 0.4.

Howard had more than 9 TIMES THE BLOCKS Paul had. He had more than 3 TIMES THE REBOUNDS Paul had.

SPG:
Paul- 2.0
Howard- 0.8

Paul barely DOUBLED the steals Howard had. So Howard dominated the categories more where they were supposed to dominate.

Plus, Dwight Howard was the first person since Wilt Chamberlain to have 20 points and 20 rebounds in three playoff games in one round. I didn't see Chris Paul do anything that hasn't happened since the Wilt Chamberlain era, did I? Thought not.

So, that is why I believe Dwight Howard was the best player in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Your turn!

Do you realize how hard it is to steal a basketball off a NBA player? Maybe this will help: CHRIS PAUL HAS THE MOST STEALS PER GAME IN THE PLAYOFFS. That means that EVERYONE at the top barely doubled the steals Howard has.

Do you realize how hard it is for a guard to block a shot than a big guy blocking a shot? Maybe this will help: Kobe Bryant is the guard with the most blocks in the playoffs, but Howard still has MORE THAN DOUBLE than what Bryant has. What's more is that Paul (11th out of guards, only .7 from the top 10) is right where MOST guards are in blocks per game in the playoffs. It isn't like Chris Paul isn't performing. He's right there with the rest of the guards.

Do you realize how hard it is for a small guard like Chris Paul who usually plays on the perimeter to get a rebound off a guy that can be more than A FOOT taller than him that is more inside the paint than Paul? Maybe this will help. Chris Paul is the 6th best rebounder out of all guards in playoffs (.3 from 5th). CP's near the top for guards in all of those big-guy categories.

Howard is better in only big-man stats. CP in small guy stats. But Paul wins in the tie-breaker, the ever-guy stat: shooting

The ever guy stat is shooting? How can people like Dwight Howard shoot as good as people like Chris Paul when Dwight has two times bigger hands? I know Yao and Mehmet and Z can shoot, but they have small hands for guys their size!

Plus, you compared you small guy's big guy's to stats to other small guys, so how about I do the opposite?

Dwight Howard, steals rank among centers: 5th.

So, Dwight Howard also compares well against players his size in small guy stats. What about assists: 7th.

Again, stacks up well. FT%: 13th.

Yet again, stacks up well. 3PT%? T-5th.

Also, you compared your guy's small guy stats to the rest of the league, so I'll do the same with big guy stats: Reb- 1st
Blocks- 1st.

That is why I think Dwight Howard is the player of the first round of the NBA.

You too. I have to get to this later.

dwade82697ST made a mistake in his argument when he said I know I will lose this throwdown. Use your arguments, don't doubt them

May 3, 2008  10:29 AM ET

I don't doubt them, it's just that everyone loves CP3. Everyones voting without waiting for arguments. Headline voters.

May 3, 2008  10:50 AM ET

I would say Joe Johnson honestly, but Il go with Dwight

May 3, 2008  12:02 PM ET

Joe Johnson?!?

May 3, 2008  12:03 PM ET

I have to get to this later. Sorry. Derby party, you know?

May 3, 2008  12:06 PM ET

**** do fouls have to do with anything lol?

May 3, 2008  12:31 PM ET

lebron, he carried that team..AGAIN

May 3, 2008  12:53 PM ET

Howard is the most overlooked player I think this year, he has a few 20 point and 20 rebound games with some obvious few blocks against a player like Chris Bosh. Who did CP3 play against a washed up Jason Kidd? Having a big man down low who is a presence is more important, heck thats why the Suns brought Shaq for (unfortunately it didnt work that well against the all-stars spurs) Specially a player that can block and rebound. Joe Johnson has also played amazing he had a 20 point 4th quarter to win against the Celtics cm on the the 1st ranked Defense in the league and he went off for 20 points and he is in the Hawks!

Leaning left but will wait for more arguments before I vote.

May 3, 2008  07:52 PM ET

8 votes and he didn't even make an argument nor has there been any comments supporting him? Flat-out ridiculous if you ask me...

This IS FN. Opinion rules. The arguements could be "D.H. because I like rice pudding". "Pizza", and "I don't know", and he'll still get votes.

May 4, 2008  09:51 AM ET

But I did argue!

May 4, 2008  10:13 AM ET

Yes you did, and I'm not saying you didn't. All I'm saying is somebody COULD do that, and people will still vote for the guy just because he used the player that the voter likes more.

May 4, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Yeah. I thought everyone liked Paul, too!

May 4, 2008  02:49 PM ET

Cheez, it's okay if you lose this one. That way you won't have 69 losses...
