Im going to say they need to get Mike D'Antoni. He built up the Suns from a cellar dweller to the top of the confrence. I dont think the Bulls are far off from being a contender in the East and D'Antoni can get them over the hump into a serious contender in the East. I think the Bulls need to go out and make a few changes like making a deal and getting a good post player maybe like Elton Brand, and they could try to sign Gilbert Arenas then trade Kirk Hinrich to get a decent post player. D'Antoni hasnt had a lot of playoff success but that is not all his fault. This would be a great move by the Bulls and D'Antoni. I belive he would choose the Bulls over the Knicks because the Bulls are a lot closer to being contenders than the Knicks.

The Bulls should hire Avery Johnson for their vacant coaching position. For two reasons. One he is the best coach out on the market right now and two D'Antoni is still the head coach of the Suns. This causes alot of problems for the front office of the Bulls. By picking up D'Antoni the Bulls would have to not only pay the Suns 9 million for the contract rights, but also another 6 figure amount for the signing bonus and contract extensions. Now i realize they need a coach, but it would be bone headed of them to give that type of money to D'Antoni who has beena bust in the playoffs, when he can get a younger acoach in Johnson who has not only won a NBA Championship but can also be bought cheaper than D'Antoni because you wouldn't have to worry about buying his contract from the Mavericks.

It has been reported that D'Antoni had really good interviews with the Knicks and that he will more than likely be the next Bulls coach. Avery Johnson wouldnt work with the Knicks because he is a lot like there previous coach Scott Skiles a defensive minded coach and we all saw how that worked out. D'Antoni is more offensive minded and likes to play up tempo basketball. The Bulls are capable of playing that kind of offense. Avery Johnson has choked in the playoffs as well. They were a no.1 seed last year and lost to the 8 seeded Warriors. They lost in the first round again this year to New Orleans. When Avery Johnson got the coaching job of the Mavs they were already a good team. D'Antoni had to build up the Suns into what they are now. Thats the kind of coach the Bulls need, somebody that can step in and build the team into championship contenders.

D'Antoni built the Suns into what they are now huh? and what's that? a regular-season powerhouse turneed into a playoff nightmare? D'Antoni is a very offensive-minded coach but thats exactly what has also led to his almost certain departure from Pheonix. His teams can't play defense. The Pheonix Suns are one of the highest scoring league's in the team but they also have one of the worst defenses in the lague.

Even though Avery got beat last year in the first round, he also won the NBA championship the year before. And this year, they ran into a New Orleans team that is completely dismantling the team that beat D'Antoni's Suns, the SanAntonio Spurs.

Tgriff do u even keep up with basketball the Avery Johnson has not won an nba title with the mavs. They lost in 6 games to the Heat so get ur facts straight. They lost to the Heat that year and since the finals loss they havent won a playoff series since then. Avery Johnson didnt have to build the Mavs into a good team they were already a really good team when he became the head coach. The Bulls dont need a coach that can step in and keep a team together, they need someone that can build them into a contender and D'Antoni is the guy that can do that. Theyve already said that D'Antoni will more than likely be taking the coaching position the only thing that could prevent it is the money. But its looking good for D'Antoni to be the next coach of the Bulls.

So jsut because Avery Johnson Walked into a situation with a good team he isn't a good coach? that is ridiculous. Avery johnson is a great coach adn although ym facts were worn gabout the championship, at east he led them to the finals. And that Mavericks team was a hell of a lot less talented than the Suns D'Antoni has coached into the second round and only the second round. D'Antoni is a great teacher but the Bulls play in the Eastern confernce. A tough defnsive conference where the bulls need a coah who can stress defense and that is not D'Antoni's fortay and that is a fact

Avery Johnson

May 6, 2008  03:14 PM ET

Avery Johnson - D'Antoni is still under contract - meaning he will require compensation if he were to move.
Larry Brown went to Charlotte
Miami went with Spoelstra
Milwaukee hired Scott Skiles

That leaves NY-Chi-Dal needing coaches

Dallas is probably going to hire Carlisle
Knicks want Mark Jackson or Tom Thibodeau

So where else would he go but Chi ? Ride off into the sunset beside Paul Silas ?

why r u voting for the guy who thought the mavs won the nba title a few years ago when they lost to Miami

May 8, 2008  01:51 PM ET

The mavs choked because Dirk Nowitski SUCKS and isn't a real power forward.

And D'antoni could definitely have a good offense with the bulls, but here's the thing. He couldn't win a championship with the suns and I really don't think the bulls have players like the suns......so if you're trying to run the same type of team with worse players than before, how in the world will you do better?

Avery hands down.. solid coach and can build a program. He will be able to actually make decisions wiothout cray owner Cuban screaming in his ear.
