Not much of a MLB TDer but i'll do my best...

My choice for the Current best outfielder in MLB,

Vladimir Guerrero

8 time MLB All Star
2004 American League MVP
7 time Silver Slugger Award Winner

A career .323 average, Vlade is known as a well rounded complete hitter and possesses one of the strongest arms in MLB. He consistantly hits for a high average and power. His vision and coverage around the plate is uncanny. Vlade rarely strikes out and has a career On Base Percentage of .391. To put that into perspective, his carerr OBP is better then Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro Suzuki, Matt Holliday, Tony Gwynn, etc. All great career hitters.

Manny Ramirez

He is a career 315 hitter. He has hit 496 career homers. A career 410 on base percentage 20 points better then Vlad. A career 599 sluggung percentage.

Some people say he isn't a great fielder he has 0 errors this year.

He is an 11 time all star

A 9 time silver slugger

A 2 time world seris mvp

Led AL in batting average in 2002

Led AL in home runs in 2004

Led AL in runs batted in in 1999

That's what I call Manny being Manny

"Manny being Manny"

Thats what YOU may call his stat line but lets talk about the real reason that phrase was coined. His LACK of enthusiasm and his SELFISHNESS is the real reason for that phrase.

"Manny being Manny"

Manny is all about Manny. He has never been a team player. I don't respect that in a player so he would never be on my "best" list. Baseball is a team game, on and off the field. His constant drama and his lack of concentration during games makes me a bit skeptical on choosing Manny.

Though Manny may possess the power, Vlad is widely known as one of the best ALL AROUND players in the game. Vlad is stronger defensively & mentally. Vlads highest/worse year in strikeouts (95 & 88) would be Mannys lowest total. That tells me Manny is Whiffin & Missin more then he is connecting. Vlad averages more Intentional Walks then Manny. Almost doubling, and sometimes tripling, Manny in many season. This shows me Vlad is more feared of a hitter then Manny.

Vlad has had 4 seasons with 200+ hits and 6 total where he had 190+. Manny? ZERO. In fact, there are numerous years where Manny had JUST AS MUCH Strikeouts then he had hits!

First I get excited when Manny steps up to the plate. He SWINGS HARD AND WANTS TO HIT HOME RUNS. he also hits for average. He hits for at least 300 every year.

Manny has been walked 2 more times then VlAD this year he had the same amount last year.

IN 2006 MANNY DOUBLED THE AMOUNT OF WALKS AS VLAD COMING IN WITH 100 AND VLAD WITH 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone says Manny is slow he has the same amount of stolen bases as Vlad.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME MANNY IS A MUCH BETTER FIELDER THEN VLAD. He had 2 Errors and Vlad had 9!!!!!

Manny is know for being a bad boy and people enjoy watching it. He is a great teammate. He has handshakes with guys. He is always joking with the guys.

WHEN PEOPLE SAY "MANNY BEING MANNY" THEY SAY THAT WHEN HE GETS A BIG HIT OR MAKES A NICE CATCH.

Manny doesn't get as many at bats as Vlad, his 4 seasons hw has hit 200 hits, he had 623, 614, 612, and 607. Manny has had 469 at bats in a year and had 190 hits. He had a 330 average, so he doesn't have as many abs.

Since everyone is so high on numbers, which I don't feel tells the whole story, I'll post some numbers up to satisfy everyone. This will hopefully show that Manny is not as good of a hitter over Vlad then many thought.

I'll start with posting numbers from Vlads full season as a starter, 1998.(minus his rookie year). Their numebrs are closer then everyone may think so OVERALL ability and character should weigh a bit more then just numbers alone.

Since 1998:

Vladimir Guerrero: Manny Ramirez
.325 batting average .316 batting average
1010 runs scored 1028 runs scored
1,150 rbi's 1,255 rbi's
346 doubles 347 doubles
39 triples 14 triples
166 stolen basses 15 stolen bases
356 home runs 387 homeruns
715 strikeouts 1,167 strikeouts
107 assist 77 assist

Vlad has hit for a higher average in 7 out of those 10 years. Winning an AL MVP in the process.

We are looking at whole career manny had a bad year or two in that stretch. For career numbers Manny dominates Vlad.

Manny does have a better career fielding percentage then Vlad. Vlad has a 963 and Manny a 980. Since Vlad joined the Angels in 04 he has had 32 assists. Manny has had 34. So who is a better fielder.

Everyone says vlad is a 5 tool player he has stole 3 bases in the last 2 years!!!!!!!
I am not saying manny is the fastest in the game.

Manny has had 5 40 plus home run seasons. Vlad only 2.
Manny has had 11 100 plus rbi seasons. Vlad 9.

Manny had good years before 1998 and had good years.

If you want to go currently manny has 6 homers and vlad 3. Vlad has 14 rbis and manny 23. walks manny 15 and vlad 13. Hits manny 38 and vlad 30. Runs manny 20 vlad 17. Doubles 10 for manny and 6 for vlad. AVERAGE MANNY 317 AND VLAD 256. On base percentage manny 397 and vlad 332. Slugging manny 567 and vlad 407. Fielding assists and errors tied.

Manny has had a better career and A BETTER SEASON THIS YEAR!

In terms of overall ability, I'd have to go with Matt Holliday or Ichiro.

May 5, 2008  06:15 PM ET

Or Vlad, I suppose.

May 5, 2008  06:48 PM ET

Manny isn't rounded enough to be the best. His defense sucks, i don't care how many errors he has this year! Plus, this isn't about career its about right now.

May 5, 2008  06:50 PM ET

Please clear this up, is it currently or over the course of their career?

If it is who is the best active outfielder by career totals then it has to be Ken Griffey Jr., absolutly, 100%, no question about it!

May 5, 2008  07:04 PM ET

This year? Career?

May 5, 2008  07:10 PM ET

currently or career manny beats him

May 5, 2008  07:18 PM ET

Numbers arent everything woooooo. Lets also not forget Manny has 3 years on Vlad.

May 5, 2008  07:19 PM ET

Lets at least wait for my opponent to post some type of argument people! lol.

May 5, 2008  07:29 PM ET

today-holliday, cases could be made for crawford, sizemore, or ichiro. Career wise- Manny

May 5, 2008  08:04 PM ET

vote left manny a horrible fielder not even close to as good as vlad

May 5, 2008  08:20 PM ET

This is about career

May 5, 2008  08:50 PM ET

vlad gets walked more because nobody else scares you in the angels lineup

May 5, 2008  09:23 PM ET

manny has had a better season and career

May 5, 2008  09:28 PM ET

Better arguments to the right. Vote that way.

May 5, 2008  11:53 PM ET

well since its basically hitting it has to be manny but i love vlad

May 6, 2008  06:53 AM ET
