Barry Zito is the best pitcher ever to sign a 7-year, $126 million contract. Simply stated: Nobody else has signed it. Who else has been able to make $1.97 million a win in major league baseball? Nobody. Thats who.

Not only that, but he has shown incredible flexibility since signing the deal. He has varied his pitching speed from the original 88-91 mph and now hovers at 84 mph or even less!

What other veteran is cagey and crafty enough to throw hitters off like that? Sure, they may be hitting .330 or whatnot against him, but that is still the BEST amongst pitchers who have signed a 7-year, $126 million contract.

Flexibility? This guy can even pitch out of the bullpen. He is versatile. Versatility is just awesome. On a scale of awesome magnitude, this guy actually scores points in his sleep. He also plays the guitar better than Bernie Williams and Bronson Arroyo.

His 11 wins since signing the contract are most among pitchers who have signed the 7-year, $126 million deal. And he has the most games started among players of the same ilk. Simply stated: he is the best of THAT bunch.

He doesn't even wear his name on the back of his jersey. Amazing.

In the hundreds of years of baseball, many titans and legends have signed 7-year $126 Million contracts. After hours of painstaking research, I am certain that I have you soundly defeated.

I choose Vernon Wells. He signed a 7-year, $126 Million contract with the Blue Jays. While he is primarily a center fielder, he is unquestionably, a better pitcher than the Barry Zito Carcass that the Giants signed.

He boasts:

0.00 ERA to Zito's 4.91
0 earned runs to Zito's 123
0 walks to Zito's 98
He has 19 fewer losses, has hit 4 less batters with his throws, and has accomplished all this in 39 fewer starts, and 225 1/3 fewer innings pitched. That's efficiency!

Additionally, he shows tremendous accuracy in hitting cut-off men from hundreds of feet away. Zito frequently misses his catcher from 60-feet.

What's more? Every batter Wells has ever faced has immediately quit baseball and joined a Tibetan Temple to avoid ever having to face Wells again.

Also you lied. And lies make baby Jesus cry. Batters are hitting .000 off of Vernon Wells, which is substantially less than .330.

Vernon Wells is easily the the best pitcher to sign a 7 year $126 Million contract.

You have stepped out on a limb here, Sir Rams alot, and I must take you to task for your disregard for the throwdown's parameters.

The throwdown, of course, calls Zito the best pitcher ever to sign the contract. You have stated incorrectly that Vernon Wells owns a 0.00 earned run average, not taking into account one important factor:

Pitchers don't go to bat in the American League. Hence his E.R.A. statistics actually are recorded as N/A, as opposed to 0.00. N/A, if you add it up, is 15. N being the 14th letter in the alphabet, A being the 1st.

His E.R.A., once converted numerically, is 15.00, which is obscene. N/A goes for all other stats, including losses, wins, starts, AND innings, all of which are 15 - and all of which do not measure up to Zito's.

I have joined a Tibetan Temple, under the guise of Dizzle Moon, so that people don't figure my true identity. And the only baseball player that has come there was Roger Clemens, who subsequently tried to sleep with me.

Vernon Wells also plays in Toronto, which makes his stats Canadian. The dollar value is different. So even if his stats weren't N/A, the value of his deal is UNAMERICAN.

Jesus doesn't love you.

You foolish man. "A" retains it's value of one, but after the conversion rate to Canada, the letter N has the same value as a the French military. N = 0, A = 1. N/A = 0. It's math.

You joined the wrong temple. Try again. The one with Vernon Wells victims is slightly south-easternish in a northwest direction of the temple you went to.

You better be careful of your accusations of "unamerican" there. "Zito" is awfully similar to "Ziti" which I had at the Olive Garden last night, which as everyone knows is Italian food (even when it's made by Mexicans). You don't even want to see the conversion rates to Italian. Plus, you can't get less American than Benito Mussolini......who was Italian! Coincidence? I think not.

Let's put this ugliness aside. If Charles Barkley cutting weeds with a club is called "golf," than Vernon Wells throwing a baseball is certainly called "pitching."

The numbers clearly side with Wells as the better pitcher.

Wells has never been booed by the fans for a poor pitching performance, has never torpedoed a franchise with his crappy pitching...EVER!

Can Zitolini make the same claims???

Jesus hates the French. This much I know and endorse.

Technically speaking, if you want to convert all parts of the N/A formula, one can not ignore the ' / ' part of the equation. Because backslash has no known value, it must be allocated a digit for which it is closest to. As it is located above the number 8 on your keyboard's right side, that is its assigned digit, making even your formula a minimum of 08, or 8. E.R.A. of 8. 8 Wins. 8 Strikeouts. 8 Innings pitched. He still loses if he's only lost 8 games.

There is only one temple to join. I'm sorry you didn't get the memo. Roger Clemens got it, and thats where Koby was born.

Being from NY, I can not agree that Olive Garden is Italian. I don't care if its made by Mussolini himself. In fact, I wouldn't even care if they have a dish called "Zito"...as they shouldn't even be allowed to call their pasta, 'pasta'...

My characters are dwindling. So, in conclusion, the best PITCHER to ever sign a 7 year, $126 million deal under the American value system, who does not play the field in a league where pitchers don't hit, is Barry Zito.

Versatile. Unique. Cagey. Zito has done it all. And you can send me my chimp ASAP.

Now you're making stuff up. Only in Moonland does a "/" equal 8. And since James Bond destroyed Hugo Drax's Moon base in "Moonraker" that system of numbers is obsolete. Furthermore, Roger Clemens wouldn't be caught dead in a Tibetan Temple as there is nothing to impregnate there. Besides, did you find Batman or Ra's Al Ghul at the Tibetan Temple you went to? Of course not. The locals directed you to the Tourist Temple, that's where they send all people who hate the Olive Garden.

Reading your second to last paragraph I can't help but notice how your tune has changed. Now it's best "under the American value system" and "in a league where pitchers don't hit." I didn't see those in the title. The reason for your increased specificity is clearly because you recognize the vastly superior pitching prowess of Vernon Wells and are scrambling to find ways to exclude him since he so easily dominates Barry "Benito" Zitolini in every way.

So in summation: I have Wells, stats, reality, James Bond, and Batman on my side. You have Clemens trying to have sex with you, Zito, and Musolini.

Vernon Wells, my own personal Moonraker. I'll take that chimp, with a side of fries, to go.

Whoa. This is really REALLY out there.

May 7, 2008  11:52 AM ET

This is all predicated on accepting that Vernon Wells is a "pitcher". But while he "throws", he does not "pitch". In a similar way, while Barry Zito "pitches", he does not "not suck".

Why not Moon? You now have access to the NMI "Vote For Me!" button which magically imbues you with the votes of every NMI member. They did show you where the button is, right?

Porkins *BS/CB | 05/07/08, 11:52 AM

Only in the loosest definition of the word could you describe what Barry Zito does as "pitch." If Zito qualifies, so does Wells.

(Same goes for the word "Golf" and Charles Barkley)

May 7, 2008  11:58 AM ET

Dont worry I'll find a way to do this without pointing out the obvious. Its the un-obvious in these that make them fun.

May 7, 2008  11:59 AM ET

It's math, Ram. Math is always right.
