Tyler Hansbrough Stunt

A lot of reporters and just fans in general are up in arms about the latest news of College Basketball sensation Tyler Hansbrough.

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/blog/ncaab_experts/post/Tyler-Hansbrough-should-probably-stop-leaping-fr?urn=ncaab,81189

Just read this article on Yahoo Sports. It shows a picture of Hansbrough jumping from the roof of a frat house into the pool, surrounded by intoxicated, cheering NC students.

Apparently he and teammate Bobby Frasor (graduate of my HS woohoo!) were jumping from the 2nd floor of the Frat House into the pool.

Was it stupid? Probably. Was it funny? Yes. Does it surprise me? Not at all.

Like the article states, this whole thing screams "College" and reminds me of Animal House quite fondly.

My question for you guys is this: Is it a big deal that Hansbrough and Frasor are doing this?

I personally don't think so. Yaa they could've injured themselves irresponsibly, but is it worth punishing them and trashing their reputations?

I dont have a problem with it, and I think the only people who would are either very panicky Tar Heel fans or depressed Midlife Crisis obsessed people who yearn for their college days

Disagree?

Stauff whats up buddy?.....whats up with the pic?

When all is said and done and Tyler walks away with a broken ankle or worse...his college career is done....and then on top of that his NBA stock will drop immensely!

let me just ask the people in this TD one question...

Is it worth it to have fun in college by jumping off a balcony"most likely intoxicated" and risk millions of dollars doing so?

Fun in college.....risk not playing in the NBA

or

make the NBA and have millions to have fun afterwards....and just be 1 year older?

id wait till the millions rolled in and then used that money to really party with...not some dumb balcony jump.

stamp punch the STUPID on TH forehead ....

Well before we go jumping (awesome pun) to any conclusions, let me say that we know nothing about this pick other than the fact that it includes TH, a pool and a frat house. We have no idea if he was intoxicated or anything.

Take a look at he pick. Looks to me like he climbed over the balcony railing and jumped off the side. Only looks like a 15 ft drop into a 5 ft deep pool.

With that said, how's this any different from someone diving off the high diving board? That is, besides the fact there was no lifeguard present?

If it was from the roof, maybe I'd have a problem with it, but T's not a stupid guy (not that stupid at least, I think). He wouldn't go out and do anything that has a pretty good risk of hurting him.

From the looks of it (and this is a pretty bad angle), TH had the pool easily and came nowhere near to missing it. The balcony he jumped from wasn't THAT high.

I don't think its as big a risk as the guy who wrote this article is making it out to be.

There are a million and one ways an athlete can get hurt. We've seen some stupid injuries (Kerry Wood vs hottub). If TH did get hurt this would be by far one of the dumbest, but hes ok. No biggie

Regardless of what the picture tells...why would you risk that?
You have a chance to be a great player in the NBA and have great success, yet you want to act like an IDIOT and jump off balconies...

So lemme get this straight...you think jumping off the roof is stupid but not 10 feet lower from the balcony? OK.....

Either way he is risking his career by doing a stupid, act of idiocy. There are a million and 1 ways athletes can get hurt...now just imagine how many ways they can get hurt when they actually DO stupid stuff like this? it probably 10 folds...why raise the risk of getting hurt when you are well on your way to a million dollar career....AND THEN you can f around all you want

Its not the fact that he is OK after doing it...it the fact that he would risk it when he has a huge career ahead of him in the NBA

"you think jumping off the roof is stupid but not 10 feet lower from the balcony?"

No what I'm saying is jumping off the balcony is like jumping off a diving board. If he was jumping off the roof then I'd have a problem with it. It's not that far from the ground. Not very dangerous. If I were him and intoxicated I woulda probably done it to.

Another thing you gotta realize is that this kinda stuff- endangering your health- isn't exactly a rare occurance. I wouldn't be surprised if most athletes said they've never done anything that was at least somewhat dangerous when they look back on it now. Problem with this is that the media got wind of it.

I'm sure dozens of pros have done stupid crap like this in college. This isn't anything new.

Dont get me wrong. I'm not saying it's OK just because everyone does or has done it. What I'm saying is that although it was stupid, they shouldn't recieve any harsh punishments or ramifications because of it. It wasn't EXTREMELY dangerous or CAREER THREATENING.

These guys are just enjoying life. They're in college. That's what 21 year olds do. This isn't anything out of the ordinary, really.

i dont have time for an argument...this sucks....good td Stauff

If the dude wants to bust his face on a pool floor, let him.

I have to go with Steveo on this one. This smacks of Jeff Kent "washing his truck". When you're a high-caliber athlete with a multi-million dollar future ahead of you, doing stupid and risky things is made all the more idiotic. Hansbrough has every right to do it, certainly. But that doesn't make it less retarded.

Oh my God!!! Tyler playing at a second-rate house at Carolina like the SAE's!!! He deserves what he reaped. Bad choice the SAE's; worst choice to jump off their balcony. Should have gone to the Beta House next door. Much better cliental there and much more intelligent brotherhood. We party hard and put a lot of brothers into med school. I can???t remember anyone so stupid as to jump off the top story onto a stagnant pool. Stay in college Tyler and learn a bit more. Come on Tyler. Maybe an ATO or if you are a real southern frat guy the Phi Delts? But a SAE? Good thing you play basketball well to get girls. Barf!!! Typical stereotyped southern frat turds. As the other frats sing about the SAE???s:

"I???m sorry I pledged SAE.
They're making a queer out of me.
They're not like the others.
They sleep with their brothers.
I'm sorry I pledged SAE."

Hell if he went and did something stupid like that in the pro's he wouldn't be getting any money. Pro teams these days put provisions in players contracts that prevents them from getting paid when they do random acts of stupidity. So it wouldn't matter if TH did this at the frat house or the hilton if he got hurt he would be putting his future in risk. He can thank Kellen"I can't ride a motorcycle" Winlow Jr for that one. If you don't believe that check out the contract Jared Allen signed with the Viking's. He will lose a crap load of money if he gets drunk and pulled over again. The big leagues protect themselves from having to pay players now when they do dumb things.

Has he been drafted? Uh, no. Was it silly and stupid on his part? That goes without saying. Bottom line, he's a kid. We need to stop over analyzing every freakin' video that makes it's way to youtube.

I'll take a drunk Hansbrough jumping 20 feet into a pool over Len Bias OD'ing on coke any day!

Really Stauff.... I has a hat (and what kind of name is that?) Get a program.

Tyler jumped off the roof of a mediocre fraternity house (SAE). Didn't you look at the picture? The house name was on the roof from where he jumped. No class. If you are going to risk your future by being stupid, then do it in style at the Beta House or the ATO House.

Maybe you had to go to Carolina to appreciate this.

I have done something like this before. When I was 17 some friends and I climbed onto a roof at his two story house. We jumped into the 10 foot deep end of his pool which was about 8 feet away from the house.
It was incredibly stupid for me but even more so for him. The pool he jumps into obviously is not as deep which could easily have resulted in an injury to him. Also he risks losing a lot of money and a pro career if he had gotten hurt.
