Back Up your statement: "Flyers will own the Pens" - - - I'm saying the Pens will win the series

Flyers are gonna OWN the Penguins. Your just getting cocky cus you beat a lousy Senators team. I really can't see Crosby walking out of this one alive, let alone un-injured

The Flyers aren't going to own the Pens, nor will they win the series. The Penguins are the better overall team with the better individual talent as well.

Fleury vs. Biron? Both goalies are playing phenominal right now...but edge is Fleury with better stats. Is it really even worth talking about all the fire power the Pens have compared to the Flyers? Crosby, Malkin, Hossa are ALL better than the best Flyer. Umberger had a wonderful series against Montreal, but that was against a rattled 20 year old goalie. That's not going to happen again against the experienced and well-rounded Pens.

You think the physical play of the Flyers will intimidate the Pens? I'd say the Rangers are just as phycial and a better defensive team than Flyers and the Pens beat them in 5 games!

I am a great believer in that idea that Stats get thrown out the window in the playoffs. This series will be a prime example of that, both teams will being their A game but I believe the Flyers will come out on top.

Yes Fleury has been playing hot, but so has Biron, beating out a swift offensive team like Montreal and the skilled shooters of Washington. Fleury did well against an Ottawa Team that was shooting blanks, and a Rangers team that doesn't have the offense to match the Penguins.
Yes the Flyers played against a highly shellshocked Carey Price, but Habs whole defensive effort was pretty poor. You can't also forget Cristobal Huet, one of the better goalies in the league. The Flyers were able to put the puck past him despite having to take it to game 7. The Flyers offense in general has been working hard - The Briere-Prospal combination has produced some fantastic chemistry, giving Briere that offensive kick start he needed. But rather than focus on two players - All Four of the Flyers lines can score and create havok.

I think It will take a monumental effort to intimidate the Penguins I admit, but the Rangers also struggle against the Flyers physical style of play.

Good Luck on you first TD
Regular Season stats can get thrown out the window, but not playoff stats.Obviously you believe this because you talk about Biron beating out offensive minded teams like Montreal and Washington.

The Flyers needed 7 games to beat a team that played in the weakest division in the NHL and who would have been tied for the 8th seed if they didn't donate the third seed to the division winner.

The Canadians took 7 games to beat the 8th seed so they weren't doin much better this post season. The Pens will be the Flyers first real competiton and it's going to get ugly.

Fleury is playing much better than Huet and Price were playing and the Pens offense is firing on all cylinders.

The beauty of these Pens is that their style of play can vary against who they are playing. Against Ottawa they opened up the offense and figured we'd just score more goals than them in a shootout. When we played the Rangers, we won a shootout in game 1, then won a virtual 1-0 game in game 2.

The Pens have the offensive firepower, but not much is mentioned of Staal, Ruutu, Laraque, Kennedy, and Roberts. Those guys will get in the corners and take the fight to the Flyers

I stand by what I said about stats being thrown out the window - that includes playoffs stats. The only thing that carries over from series to series is whether your hot or not. Biron and Fleury are hot, but their save % will mean nothing now.

As I said before, you played an Ottawa team that was lucky to make it to the playoffs - they probably lost the series in the first game.
The Rangers are a good, solid defensive team. They have a better defence than the Flyers, I'll give you that, but the ability to contain players is a specialty of the Flyers. Particularly players like Timmonen, Hatcher, Hartnell, and Coburn who can contain a player, often shutting down offense. I think we all know about the relationship between Hatcher and Crosby. I imagine Stevens will capatilise on this.

The Flyers also have some unsung heroes on offense. Richards, Carter, Knuble and Kapanen can all give opposing teams headaches. Each have attributes that will be important this series.

Seeing as the Flyers are the first test for this Pens team, They had better not be quick to understimate them, or things will go bad quick for the Penguins which might be difficult to recover from.

So if all stats are getting thrown out, then I guess all there is to compare is the quality of the players and teams. Both teams are hot, (but I would say the Pens are hotter by beating a higher quality playoff team and better goalie in Lunquist)

If you go line by line, the Pens are deeper and better on every line. We have better scoring, better offensive defensemen, and better defensive defensement. If the Flyers take penalties as they are prone to do, they will feel the feury of perhaps the best two line powerplay in the game. You say stats don't matter, then I guess all I can say is the Pens PP is hot...scoring in all but 1 game this postseason.

If Ottawa was lucky to make the playoffs, how lucky was Washington? They got in because Carolina imploded.

They can't capitalize on the relationship between Hatcher and Crosby when Hatcher is in the penalty box as he is prone to do.

The Flyers might be full of unsung heroes, but the Pens are full of Heroes. This is no David and Goalith repeat. Goalith is ready to stomp out David. The Pens will not underestimate their rival, and being the first complete team the Flyers face....it will be too much to handle...

To b egin with, I think you need you've got your David and Goliath metaphor the wrong way round.

The Flyers have four great lines that can match the Pens strength for strength. From 1st to 4th, each line can create trouble and each has its own strengths. The Flyers and Penguins PP has a difference of like 2% or 3%. Yes the Flyers have a Penalty problem, but they've got a PK to back it up. Also, Pens players like Malkin are often in risk of loosing their cool and picking up silly penalties, should the Flyers push them too hard.

I was a little disturbed by the loss of Kimmo Timmonen. It will hurt without him, but lots of Flyers players will be willing to step up to the blue line as it were. Coburn, Cote, Kukkonen and Modry are fine examples of defence men that could take Kimmo's place.

I wouldn't say the Pens are hotter. It's about equal. The Penguins will have the confidence of a team blitzing it's way through the playoffs while the Flyers are in the knowledge that they were a team predicted not to make the playoffs. The suit the under-dog look.

This will be a close series which will probably be decided on lucky breaks, but I still genuinly believe that the Flyers will win.

sorry but the Pens are stomping a mudhole in the flyers...the flyers defense is old and cannot hang for 60 mintues with the pens..nope aint gonna happen pens in 6

I doubt this will even be accepted.

I wouldn't make too many mistakes if I were you, It could be a bad omen for you. And I never pass up a challenge!

I can't take credit for this...but:

"3 Flyers were already assigned double minors and are already sitting in the penalty box. Series has yet to start."

I'm caught in a tough spot. I hate all things Philadelphia. I even hate Rocky and the Liberty Bell.

But that Sidney Crosby. Boy oh boy. I'm not a hater. I've watched hockey all my life. But I've never seen a bigger whiner on the ice than that kid. He has some growing up to do. I'm shocked he acts the way he does. And Sid - dude - for the love of God, shave that face of yours. You look like I did when I was 14 trying to grow a beard. Yikes.

That said - I'm pulling for the Pens in this one I guess. The Flyers winning would be too much of a good story, one that would make me vomit for weeks.

Report Offensive Comment

Haha I should clarify that 'hating' Philadelphia and 'not being a hater' are 2 perfectly fine separate statements. Haters are jealous, and I was detailing what I wasn't. Hating Philadelphia for me is natural, and no jealousy is involved. Heck I even hate the children there.

To answer your question - I get quiet superstitious with sports

breaking news....timmonen out for series

Report Offensive Comment

Not complaining or anything, I have enjoyed this little throwdown, But it is fairly obvious who will vote for who. I'm just sayin...

Report Offensive Comment

I think this series is all about strategy. The flyers in your face, crowd the crease strategy has thrown good teams and GREAT goalies off in the first 2 series. On the other hand, Pitt is more talented, so they must find a way to use it. it will be a very close series

Flyers are overmatched here. Without Kimmo they don't have a shot that they might have had. The Habs goaltenting beat the Habs and the Flyers got a real fortunate call in OT to get past the Caps...The Caps inexperience showed in the early games and looked like the better team near the end. Gotta vote left here. No way could the Flyers dominate the Pens...
