NFL players should be able to have long hair.

Commish Rodger Goodel was trying to put a restriction on long hair. I oppose this idea. Long hair isn't hurting anyone except the person with it. If they want to risk getting it pulled then it's their choice. What's next banning facial hair. players should have freedom. It's not like Pacman going out and shootin people, it's just hair.

If a professional football player is smart, and really cares about himself, he'll keep his hair short to take away the possibility of having it pulled by guys like Roy Williams. But, like so many Americans who dont wear seat belts, drive the speed limit or refrain from talking on their cell phones while driving, all things that they should do on their own because it's extremely beneficial to their well being, the NFL has to baby athletes by enforcing rules to protect them.

The rule isnt in place to stop athletes from expressing themselves; it's in place to protect them from their own stubborness and/or stupidity. It's simple really, but athletes like Polamalu and anyone else with dreads/long flowing locks seem to not care if someone yanks their hair while in the middle of a game.

And I'm sure no one is treating this issue with the same mindset as they'd have with the issue of "Pacman shooting people".

Meh.

I guess I'll go back to watching "A Clockwork Orange."

No one ever died from getting their hair pulled.
These are supposed to be tough football players, not children that need to be babied.
A players hair is a way to express themselves.
No one will follow this rule anyway so it's a waste of time.
People will just keep getting fined.

"These are supposed to be tough football players, not children that need to be babied."

It isnt a question of physical toughness. If these grown men cant see the logic in keeping their hair trimmed then you've got the current situation where Goodell feels he needs to do something for them they wont do themselves.

"No one ever died from getting their hair pulled."

True, but I dont think getting yanked down to the ground while in all-out sprint mode is all too fun. Pain would be involved, and you know it.

I dont know if you're able to tell the difference between harmless ways of expressing yourself and what's at hand. Tattoos are ways of expressing one's self -- that doesnt have any risk/dangers to boot. Having Al Harris-like dreads does.

Sure, guys may ignore the rule ala Jordan with his shoes... but not for long. When mom told you to not touch the hot stove with your hand, and you did anyway, you learned it REALLY wasnt a good idea. Get your hair yanked enough times and you'll learn. People are stupid... until it happens to them.

dude stop restating my points and come up with ur own.

If your hair comes out from beneath the helmet it is counted as a part of the uniform. If a player doesn't want it yanked (a la Ricky Williams back in 03 or 04) then keep it short. If not, then do whatever...

Vote to Mac...better arguments.

Neither side argued this topic very well at all. Blank argument aside, both side failed to bring up the possibility of image. Cornrows and dreadlocks and the constant legal issues that players are having could be a factor. Just a possibility, but definately an angle to argue.

Thought about it some and Mac does give the better argument.

Left is right, right had a MUCH better argument. Vote right. Wanna do it again, Mac?

The rule is gay, what you want football to look like the military, where everyone looks the same. I like in individuality
