rstowe- no braves???? Bobby has a ring and many winning seasons...

Report Offensive Comment

No Bobby Cox, automatic loss. No Jim Leyland either. Just stupid.

Report Offensive Comment

Bobby Cox and Jim Leyland both should be up there. Jim Leyland turned a team from 71 wins to a AL East Pennant winner and Bobby Cox fires up his team by getting ejected.

Report Offensive Comment

And where is Joe Torre on rstowe's list?

Report Offensive Comment

Its 9 to 1? This is a beat down.

The best manager in baseball is Mike Scoscia. Torre belongs nowhere near the top of that list. Otherwise I have to see some arguments. Leyland would be a good choice too, but I'm not sold.

I'd go:

1. Scoscia
2. LaRussa
3. Cox
4. Piniella
5. Francona/Torre.

That last one is a toss up for me.

HA! Victory is his! <---

I see where rstowe is going. and I see where tgriff89 is going with his. History is on both sides. bad teams made good, long winning streaks, records, pennants, league championships, and world series. Both sides are pretty equal.

====================

Absolutely not. He should be on the list, but nowhere near the top. I don't like the Red Sox either.

We will all have our disagreements over the guys that belong here, but Torre came in to NY and inherited one of the greatest teams ever. They went on a magical run with everything clicking. Did he keep it clicking? Maybe. I do think he was given the keys to a benz and the only directions to follow were "dont drive slow." I think his best managing came in the last 3 years, when that $200 million albatross couldn't get to the World Series. That said - as far as strategy is concerned, along with all the other components, he's not one of the best in the game.

Torre almost undoubtedly doesn't belong at #1. Neither does Francona.

Here's how I would put it.

1. Tony La Russa
2. Bobby Cox
3. Mike Sciosa
4. Jim Leyland
5. Lou Pinella.

Torre and Francona would be at 5 and 6.

Report Offensive Comment

To expand on what Moondizzle is saying, before Torre got to New York, he had been a manager for 15 years.

He made the playoffs just once.

Toss the greatest team of all time to any baseball manager, and I'm sure they'll do wonders. That's not to say he's a bad manager, just that he's horribly overrated.

Report Offensive Comment

Oh my dear good God. Tony LaRussa is a borderline retard. Is this a list of overrated managers?

Vote right.

^ I like dyhard's list, though I'd probably move Torre down, if I had him on there at all.

Cox has to be tops right now.

Let's face it in New York Torre had the best talent in the MLB now he has a very young team. In reality Torre is unproven.
